I’d resisted it until now but it’s just gone on, it’s that cold.
Has anyone else succumbed and switched on their central heating?

Don't need to. Ours is on permanent thermostat - and it has switched itself on today for the first time all summer.

Was certainly tempted yesterday morning as it was decidedly chilly. Doesn't help that the wife likes the house to be around 60 degrees or cooler. I prefer it in the low 70's. So this will be an ongoing battle for the thermostat as it is every year. It doesn't help that I'll warm the house up and she'll sneak the bedroom window open in the night, even in winter. Wake up bloody freezing most mornings.

No chance yet, can feel it getting a nip in the air but nowhere near cold enough to get the heating on.
Usually into October by time we even contemplate it coming on

Checked the temp in here and it was below 13. Too cold for me so on for an hour and will then see how things are.

The sudden drop as surprised me, you've literally gone from 1 week to wearing shorts & t-shirts to thermal long johns & jumpers & coats.

Still around 30 degrees here on the Costa del Sol, I've got my tee shirt, shorts and sandals on. I had the air con earlier just to cool down a bit. I'll b glad when we get well into September when the tourists gave all gone back and t cools down a bit generally.

Nope, whilst I can still sit watching the cricket in shorts for several hours the heating remains off.
I'll put long pants and a jumper on before the heating.

30 degrees? Pfft. Just cooling down enough for a run here in Doha, which means it must have dipped below 40. 13 degrees and green fields sounds quite appealing to me.

Ours has been on and off for the last 2 weeks since we got back from France, self isolating meant we couldn't go out for a walk or anything.

A balmy 16 degrees in Glasgow today, so we've got the windows open wide, don't usually bother with the heating until at least October at the earliest.
It has been chilly at night-time, but I just put a jumper on for a few minutes, and that suffices amply.

It's partly down to finances, but if you're that cold before October, then you're a bit of a mard arse.

First time it’s been on in months, probably since March to be honest, and was on for an hour. I doubt it will break the bank but the few pence it will cost can come out of the winter fuel allowance.

Made hell of a difference. Lifted the temp in here by five and a half degrees. Probably should have done it in the morning.
It’s ridiculous though. Just over a week ago it was up around 27 in the house and then down below 13 today.

My apartment can be absolutely banging all day every day... £25 a month with Bulb. But I think the heat rises from the 2 floors below, so makes it a bit cheaper. I only need the thermo on 15c - even 12c can be enough.

I flicked mine on for a couple of hours yesterday. I’d been cycling in the rain and was soaked through. It felt cold in the house so the heating took the edge off nicely.

Don't think i've ever seen it that cold in winter in my house, you might want to look into getting your house better insulated. It was 17 in my house this morning, (Ightenhill area)

Mine normally shuts off at 10c. Although I'm sure a house is different to an apartment, as it'll be wherever the sensor is.

Always been a cold house. In the last two years I’ve had new roof, new insulation and new windows. Never used to bother me too much but age, medication mean I feel the cold more and I was certainly feeling it today.
Less than a week ago I was sat here in tshirt & shorts to today, jeans on, socks on, sweater on and heating on.

It is for some people & not others, when people say they are cold they usually are, early 1 morning last week there was a thin film of ice on my car windscreen the temperature had dropped enough to cause that.

It’s rare to get this low a temperature in August but I checked at the time I put the heating on and it was 10 outside. That’s low for this time of year.

I don’t feel the cold too much but I prefer to not wear too many layers around the house. I was a bit nippy earlier so whacked the heating on for an hour - my slippers have made their first appearance for a while too.
