Burnley 1 Man Utd 0
Just watched the full game back on the club's YouTube channel.
I know it gets talked about alot on here but what a night. Probably one of my best of being a claret. The atmosphere was the best iv witnessed still to this day. The noise when the Blake volley hit the net was deafening.
Always forget how good Clarke Carlisle was that night. Terrific performance.
Also Rooney should of had a red card on his tackle on Mears towards the end. If anybody knows the incident do you think it would be a red today especially with VAR ?
Even now when we beat United or the big teams nothing comes close to this. It was new to us and hadn't experienced beating Champions and world class teams before. Now it doesn't even excite me playing these teams it's just normal. Dont think I will get the feeling I had this night again watching Burnley ??
Also Coyle on the pitch at the end. He really was loved and adored and was our God. Shame he threw it all away JUDAS.
I still don't think we would of stayed up if he had stayed to be honest we wasn't ready for Premierleague football and I thought that would be our one and only season in with the big boys.
This night was the pinnacle. Something I really doubt we will see replicated at Turf Moor ever again. I still get goosebumps watching it back now.
UP THE EFFIN CLARETS !!

Yes one of the best, a pity the dressing room was too cramped for Ferguson!

excuses are endless - dressing room was too cramped, grass too long, pitch not watered...Clarets score more goals than us!
agree with op - balmy autumn evening, wonderful atmosphere...unforgettable night!

IMHO, if it wasn't Wayne Rooney and Manchester United, it would have been a red card back in 2009-10, with or without VAR .....

While it was great to win away at United this year, they're not the team they used to be, not even at Old Trafford. The win in 2009, after the penalty save, with that magnificent strike, against the reigning champions was special.

It was special, unbelievably special although eventually we were fortunate to beat them. This year we beat them in their own back yard and were unquestionably the better team.the_fat_shearer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:49 pmWhile it was great to win away at United this year, they're not the team they used to be, not even at Old Trafford. Not the team they were but they are unbeaten since and didn’t they lose only one other home game all season?
Both great nights though.

They are fewer and further between true. But that’s only because of how far we’ve come.TommyJohnson wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 2:36 pm

A cup semi final at the turf. Or the final itself at Wembley. Or a European game proper i.e. not a qualifier and would be right up there.
But agree. A great night all the same.

Different games. And despite how poor they were in January that’s thanks to how good we were. As above they went on a remarkable run after that and ended up in a European semi again.the_fat_shearer wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 5:49 pmWhile it was great to win away at United this year, they're not the team they used to be, not even at Old Trafford. To control man Utd at old Trafford like we did in January is special.

Fair point. I didn't realise their home record this season but I guess I meant that we (and other teams) don't go there with the fear we used to have when we went in the past.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:45 pmIt was special, unbelievably special although eventually we were fortunate to beat them. You're right that the 2009 win was somewhat fortunate whereas we were the better team at OT but that's kind of my point - in 2009 we beat a top, top team who were Champions and beat them against the odds whereas this year we were able to outplay a good team but it was less against the odds than 2009.
Don't get me wrong, both excellent wins and the away win this year was still the result of the season.

Fair point. I don't mean to sound negative on our win there this year - great, great result. I just think that the 2009 result was more unexpected and there was a bigger chasm between the teams on papercricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:27 pmDifferent games. Unbelievable atmosphere that night - definitely one of the best and loudest I’ve ever experienced in watching Burnley.
To score such a fantastic goal from the boot of one of the fans favourite ever players just made it even more perfect.
Just to make it even more special for me personally my wife and both my kids went on as a few of the usual people we went on could not make it as it was August with many still holidaying. What a game for them to choose as one of their first !

Re: Burnley 1 Man Utd 0
It was a different kind of noise when that goal went in.
Re: Burnley 1 Man Utd 0
Really special night for us. Played them at the right time, they we’re beginning again after Fergusons greatest ever side were stripped apart.
Re: Burnley 1 Man Utd 0
4 goals scored in a row (in competitive games):
Paterson v Reading
Thompson v Reading
Elliott v Sheffield United
Blake v Manchester United
What an incredible run of outstanding, and meaningful, goals.

Could add Alexander's v Reading at home. Also,Wade Elliott's against Everton after the Man Utd game and make it 6 meaningful goals in a row
Re: Burnley 1 Man Utd 0
Missed out (understandably) the Stoke away game, but other than that some cracking games.
