JBG
Decides to give Iceland v England a miss. Very wise. Bound to pick up an injury.

Was posted a few days ago after it was reported on SSN (Thursday I think). I made reference to it in the Preston friendly article, he’s made himself unavailable for their games against England and Belgium, as has Gylfi Sigurdsson.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 9:15 pmDecides to give Iceland v England a miss. I know, but wow what an important player he would be. I'd go as far as saying he'd get player of the season.
That's how important he is.

Re: JBG
I think they were the given the option and they both declined to play for their country on this occasion. Apart from anything else it’s a sensible decision from JBG given all the injuries he’s had in the last year.

Yes, but my post was about what if he could last every game.
It didn't need a reply, as we've had that every season.

35 in one, 29 in another, put out by that shocking Fernandinho challenge in a third which means he’s only suffered injuries in one season.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Sun Aug 30, 2020 10:22 pmHe has only managed 30 league games in 1 out of the 4 seasons he has been with us. Don't get your hopes up
And to go back, he played 41 and 40 league games respectively in his two seasons at Charlton. Last season’s problems, we now know, all came from the one injury. He’s fully fit now so hopefully a good season from him. And he will make a difference.

Re: JBG
Looking forward to watching JBG again. He's instrumental to our attacking threat and if he can play a substantial number of games on the right it will take the pressure off McNeil too.
If we have McNeil, Brady and JBG to choose from then we have good options.

Re: JBG
Thing I don't understand about JBG is why, if he's a right winger, he nearly always cuts back onto his left to cross the ball. The FBs know this and are usually ready for him.
That said, I hope he really is fit as he's a far bigger threat than Brady has ever been. Brady could easily be added to the 'Biggest waste of money' thread.

Not sure there's much to understand. He's left-footed.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 12:04 pmThing I don't understand about JBG is why, if he's a right winger, he nearly always cuts back onto his left to cross the ball. The FBs know this and are usually ready for him.
Pretty much every professional footballer is one footed - but that's time for another discussion as I think every footballer should be able to use both feet, as all they do for a living is kick a football and stand on them. Anyway...
Any full back knows the predominant foot of who's attacking them.

Re: JBG
Lets hope he is injury free from now.In terms of injuries he reminds me of Little who seemed to have re-occurring achillies problems then they discovered one leg was shorter than the other. JBG seems to suffer from hamstring on a regular basis
With a run of games and his previous form he simply has to start. His left footed crosses are precision.A much under-rated player who can make a big contribution in the coming season

I think you are really harsh on Brady. The big injury he got was a shocker and that’s led to the niggles. I really rate him but one big problem he has since getting fit is called Dwight McNeil who has taken his place on the left. A fit Brady, I think, is a great asset.

So with no transfer news so far ( in or out) and the injury situation becoming a little clearer here is our likely starting XI for first game
Pope
Bardsley Tarks Mee or Long Taylor
JBG ( now fully fit) Brownhill Westwood McNeil
Wood Rodriguez
Everybody happy with that ?

I don't think I'm harsh on Brady at all. Even before he got injured, he rarely had a good game and in my opinion, he's still living off that goal against Chelsea.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 2:51 pmPlayed on the right too for Charlton. His fitness has nothing to do with the fact that nearly every time he gets the ball, he loses it by trying to be too clever.

I thought he was in outstanding form just prior to the injury. He’d just had his best ever game for us at Bournemouth and was more than playing his part in that incredible start to the season.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 3:42 pmI don't think I'm harsh on Brady at all. Re: JBG
Brady was in a very good spell, prior to the injury. If memory serves, he’d taken a long time to hit that spell of good form.
If we can get him back to the lee injury level, he will be an asset. If he continues his form, either side of the good patch, he’ll struggle to make an impact.

Maybe, just maybe it might be because we’ve all been hiding indoors from Covid for months, and when we venture out we were masks and sanitize our hands, nor do we get close to other people. D’ya think?

Re: JBG
Brady was in fine form prior to injury. Had a particularly fine game against Bournemouth especially, where he scored a fairly sublime goal. He sustained a severe injury and it’s taken a long time for him to retain form and fitness. He might just be okay now and be an asset.
Re: JBG
Brady was indeed in very good form prior to his injury. He didn't set the world on fire at first but then was coming good as his time with us progressed.
I was at that game at Leicester when he was causing all sorts of problems for their defenders. I felt that if he hadn't got that injury we would have won that day.

I'm not getting back into that argument, because people can't see the woods for the trees. Hopefully, when we get a vaccine, deaths will fall dramatically but my point has always been that we already have a Flu vaccine and it STILL kills more than Covid 19.

Re: JBG
JBG starts again today at Preston, if he can stay injury free, and apart from last season, he's actually played a fair amount of games for the Clarets, then he could be a real asset next season, we really miss a threat on the right who can create chances and chip in with goals, in the same way that Dwight offers down the left, and this means if the McNeil/Taylor axis is nullified by opponents we struggle to break defences down in open play.
