Challenges, anyone took up a new ones recently

After a nice lunch with hubby today, while having to be out regarding something else, he challenged me to the following:

since lockdown we have both not done as much and it is time to try and lose some weight, so we get weighed this Friday and thereafter every first Friday of the month and see who has lost the most. The loser of the challenge pays for the dinner on the Friday night.

I challenged him back and said, it's the same bank account so really not much to lose by paying for the meal, so we agreed that the loser has to drive, no Uber or anything, and that the loser must drink water or non-alcoholic for the Friday night out.

just a bit of fun really and was wondering if anyone else has been taking up challenges lately, whether due to lock down or not?

Having a week off work at home with the wife is a challenge
She's off on a decorating spree. Painted the kitchen and bedroom Claret and wants to drag me out for Blue paint on Friday. She had me laying the foundations for a shed the other day. It's not being delivered for another 6 weeks!

Going to try and do sober for October.

Also trying to be a bit healthier after a 10kg weight gain in the last 3 months, although its both mine and the Mrs birthday this month, so not expecting drastic results at the start.
Starting to cut the naughty stuff out, started back at 5 a side, and back in the gym twice a week.

Aim is to be 12.7kg lighter, once its off, I'll take that as my standard weight.

Me and the missus are feeling a bit sluggish after falling into a habit of having a few drinks every day (well not when she is working as she is a nurse and works permanent nights) SO we have decided that if one of us is working (our shift patterns are off) then we will not have a drink....the money we save goes into a diving account and we will hopefully lose some timber and be ready for next years dive season......

I see what you did there  I'm dangerous in a DIY store. Always come out with far more than I went for. Although I could be tempted if the wife lets me get that Makita or DeWalt corded power drill we need :)

Standard procedure in a DIY store. If you’re not seduced by all the tools then there’s something wrong.

I have to be dragged away.

See also: scrapyards and motorfactors.

Back to topic,

I started running again properly during lockdown with the aim of shifting the weight I’d put on since working away once a week (all expenses paid (dangerous). Started at 106kg and I was down to 95 after 2 months. Injuries have curtailed my running the last few weeks, but I’m back at the gym so it’s not all lost.

Climbed Snowdon on Tuesday and went up via the "Crib Goch" route which is interesting to say the least. Not for the faint hearted for sure.

Great pictures Captain :)

I never went up Snowden and don't think the scramble is for me but I do like walking and done a lot in the Lake District but nothing like that. I have been wanting to go white water rafting for years but hubby and children just don't want to go, so at the moment I don't think I will ever make it but never say never.

We went White Water Rafting with these many years ago in West Virginia. Very friendly. It's hair raising but fun. You'll ache in places you never knew you had. Fantastic weekend out though.

I’d signed up for the fellsman race (60miles 9k feet climbing) in Jan and it was due to take place in late April but was cancelled due to covid.

I was well on with my training and as a training run I ran the Yorkshire 3 peaks in 4hrs 40 mins. This included nav as I’ve never done it before, I reckon I could knock 30 mins off that time comfortably.

Unfortunately the fellsman was cancelled, however it was a blessing as I was injured on the day it would have taken place.

I’m hoping to complete it next year. I’m also going to sign up for the Hawarth Hobble (30miles)

I’ve had a bit of a lazy lock down but plan to spend the next 3 months strength training and then increase my mileage to hopefully avoid injury

looks super

link is where I want to go, it's a national park, I/we like road trips, so would need a week and maybe we go for a week and I do the rafting by myself, I'm positive it's the only way I am going to be able to do this.

Our eldest and his wife pre children decided to lose weight and train, they entered a half marathon as a challenge and I was amazed they both did it, I was fairly sure my daughter in-law would but had some serious doubts as to whether my son would but he did. Also my eldest every year gives up alcohol for lent, he loves his beer and wine, etc. This was also a surprise, been doing it for around 8/10 years now, that is a challenge I would never try to do, along with your fellmen race, although I should try to do both or train for them at least.

Driving to Kew via M4 it would be nice to see occasionally some work going on to justify 50mph for 30miles

Joined a gym for a trial period - 12 sessions in 39 days with an aim of improving fitness and losing a stone. Quite a challenge as I am an ageing Fat Blackburn with arthritic knees and dodgy calf muscles from years of playing sport.

Drink two litres of water before the first weigh-in, then you're bound to win the first week :D
