He is in no way better than Maguire except for having more pace than him. Tarks is a good defender with 10 men ahead of him.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 6:44 amTarks is a £50m player far better in every dept than Maguire
But it's all paper talk and nothing will happen .
We wont sign anyone as funds are too low
That's more worrying, given Sean's pleas for clarity last season

Anyone got any info on the Benkovic situation?

Why would we put a £50M clause in his contract and then sell him for just £30M?

Re: Tark - transfer
3 possible reasons, I guess.
1. He wants to leave
2. We risk waiting until the summer, and then clubs decide to wait for his contract to run out, so we don't get anything
3. We have players lined up that we're confident of getting, for half the price

Apologies I didn’t see the comment.
Rogers obviously had Benkovic at Celtic and imagine he’s be much cheaper than Tarks .

Is he really? I’ve missed that one then somewhere down the line ! Did he join them last season?
Re: Tark - transfer
No clubs will sell to us on the cheap as SD keeps reminding us so what makes anyone think that we'll sell Tarks on the cheap. £50m minimum should be the asking price.
Re: Tark - transfer
I reckon we'd sell at 40m. If we do it's Southgate to blame for costing the club the further 10m by making it clear to Tarks that he won't play for England again whilst he plays for Burnley - can't blame the lad for being open to a move as he'll be straight in the next squad if he plays for Leicester, even if he doesn't replicate the form he's shown here.
Re: Tark - transfer
I reckon £35M with £5/10M in add ons and Tarks will be gone.Mattster wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2020 3:26 pmI reckon we'd sell at 40m. Re: Tark - transfer
Bournemouth got £26.5m for Tyrone Mings after he performed well in the Championship for half a season with Villa, after previously proving not good enough for the Premier League.
The price discussed here (£30m) would be a joke of a fee for a player who has been as good as anyone outside the Top 6 over the last 12 months. Absolute minimum fee should be £40m and even then I would be so reluctant to sell.

Re: Tark - transfer
A flat refusal to sell gives any potential buyers two options - pay the release fee or move on.
Fairly understandable stance too, given he would be our only fit first team CB, going into the season.
£30m is laughable.

in the crazy world of the PL anything short of 50 million is a nonsense, Ben Godfrey of Norwich is valued at 40 by them after 1 crap season in the PL

Re: Tark - transfer
For those saying we should be aiming for £50m-if it was your club and money you would take anything over £30m
Mings has been mentioned at £26.5m. He had a good spell at Villa when he showed what he could do. He had a mega injury at Bournemouth, then did not get in the team for many games. I think today, if for sale he would go for over £30m
A better benchmark is Nathan Ake who went to Man City for £41m. I personally think Ake is a superb centre half-strong dominant, good in the air and a good organiser. It was also City buying him who don't need to, or tend to haggle-they tend to pay asking price
I hate to say it, and I hope I am wrong, but if Leicester get to £35m I think we will lose the best CH I have seen at the club. If we get closer to £40m then we have done very well
The worry is where do we find another Tarks, and currently that leaves just Kevin Long as a fit CH with any first team experience

It's interesting that you talk up Ake but neglect to mention he was part of the relegated Bournemouth defence which shipped 65 Goals last season. Conversely, Tarks was part of the defence which had the second most clean sheets behind Manchester City's multi hundred million pound defence. Thats before you discuss Ake wants PL football and Bournemouth need to sell.
Lastly, the sale of Tarks will no doubt put a huge dent in our preparations for the season, with little time to bring a replacement up to speed of our tactics or system. Sorry Leicester, but we need the £150m+ of staying in the PL more than your £30m right now.
Overall, It's a question of knowing your assets worth and I would hope the BFC board would quote the likes of the above reasoning in any justification of Tarks valuation.

Whoever replaces Tarks, don’t forget that it’s really captain fantastic Ben Mee who keeps making those alongside him look good...
Re: Tark - transfer
We won't be selling Tarks. If there was any chance of it we'd have kept Gibson and offered him first team football.

No sale whatever the offer while we have these injuries, have sold Gibson and have failed to bring in replacements. Would understand if we had moved to add two CH’s earlier in the window but have left it too late now.

I'd be amazed if we sold Tarks at this stage. Going into the season with Long and probably Pieters playing at centre back would be disastrous. Keep him for another year and sell next summer.

Re: Tark - transfer
DARTHLAW-I agree with your sentiments. I am with you. The £150m survival money is far greater than the sale of our player. What I cannot accept is that Nathan Ake is shite on the basis of Bournemouth being relegated, and the team shipping 65 goals. He had no real defense supporting him and they were plagued by injury and the victims of VAR. Had the Sheff Utd goal which was inside the netting been allowed by VAR they would still be in the PL. In any case , from what you say Tom Heaton must be shite too, on the basis that his former club Bristol City got relegated and Tom let in more than 100 goals, but SD still had the vision to get him on a free. HE has turned out to be one of our best ever keepers and got an England call up

Re: Tark - transfer
You would hope the club know whether or not the are going to let this happen - if they are prepared to let Tarkowski go to Leicester then he needs to be replaced by someone with PL experience ready to start the new season. If that's the case Craig Dawson would seem the most likely option - and funds shouldn't be an issue assuming we realise what we expect on JT
Any surplus on the deal - and there should be some - to be used to subsidise a CM replacement for Hendrick and a wide-player (for Lennon) - if that's the overall outcome then we have to accept it - neither Wolves nor Leicester have been able to hold on to their better players when bigger clubs have shown an interest - we are no different

I've put forward an argument as to why Tarks should be higher valued than Nathan Ake, backed up by the facts & statistics.
You've offered a defense of Ake built on conjecture, whether that be accurate or not.
My point is its easy to build a case why we should not be accepting anything like £30m for a defender who is statistically, if not actually (which he categorically is), better than one who has just sold for £42m.

If the £6m is what we paid for him, with 25%, it would be £8.5m to Brentford

Possibly Ake was also happy to be the next English trained player to sit in City’s squad, merely there as a home grown player, whilst Tarks wanted to play?
