Graham Onions picked up a back injury prior to the first Bob Willis Trophy game and has now been advised not to play professional sport again.

If it's only at a professional level that he can't play then he'll be ok at Lancashire.
Come on you Tykes.

Big loss for Lancs though they have just kept Derbyshire down to 98 in a T20

Bunny Onions has been first class since the day he arrived from Durham. Big loss.

He will be a big loss.

I've watched a fair bit of County Championship cricket during the past few years. Onions was always someone who looked likely to take a wicket.

Disappointing news for him and for Lancs, but he was 37 and would likely have hung up his boots soon anyway, it sounds like he's exploring coaching opportunities, and Lancs would do well to keep him on in some capacity, equally he may wish to return to Durham.

He also played 9 tests for England, and there's not many sportsmen that have the honour of playing for their country.

Best of luck to him whatever path he chooses to pursue post his playing career.

A bit like that of Bresnan's.

If my distant memory serves me right Lancs made an operating profit of over £7.5 million last year so Onions wages wouldn't have been causing undue concern.

With respect to the op, and I know he comes up with some good puns, surely this one doesn’t work.
It’s typical to know one’s onions, but I can’t imagine losing them.
Or am I losing my marbles?
