Superannuation
Back in the annals of time I worked for Rossendale Borough Council for about 3 years...18/21,bloody hell that's 43 years since ....anyway back on subject I paid into a superannuation pension, since I left that job 43 years ago I've never had statements or any indication I have paid into this....anyone any ideas of this type of pension, will my three years contributions and interest be just sat there waiting for me to claim...or in true Rossendale Borough Council style will they have spirited my money away into a gaping black hole they like to shovel money into, the money has gone somewhere it would be interesting to find out where....I'm sure Some of the posters will have experience of this anyone any ideas?
Re: Superannuation
I'd have thought your starting point is Rossendale BC or the Local Government Pension Service.

Re: Superannuation
Same. You can trace pensions through government web page. Local Government superannuation Scheme will flush out a number to ring. Burnley Leisure search worked for me for Thompson Centre. https://www.findpensioncontacts.service ... ure&page=1

Re: Superannuation
Hi Steve, some things to consider: 1) you are going back to the 1970s - you will know the exact dates; 2) you were 18/21 - did anyone qualify to be member of a pension scheme before their 21st birthday back then? 3) I left my first post-uni employment in early 1979, I was 21 when I started this job. I took a full refund of my payments into my employers pension fund when I left, I'd been with them 3 and half years. 4) In 1990s, you had to be minimum 24 months with a pension scheme or your employer could cancel membership when you left - you got back your own contributions, but employer kept their payments/cancelled your pension. 5) My schemes were private sector employers, however, I know of public sector staff who have had difficulty proving they had paid into public sector pensions when they reached pension age - the council hadn't kept any records of their early years - and, it wasn't council practise to send out pensionable service statements to employees until more recent times. Payslips from those early years were requested. 6) I'd expect council superann scheme you paid into was a final salary scheme and years of service - adjusted over the years by an inflation index (probably capped).
Good luck with your search.

The only thing I'm sure if on this is on my pay slip each week for those 3 years I worked for them from being 18 years old to 21 I had deductions each week for Superannuation.
I will have to contact RBC I suppose,I just think it will be a ballache having to go back 40 odd years.

Yes chase it down, I worked in the Civil Service 67-68 for 12 months. On retirement 2010 I tracked this down, result an annual pension worth Β£500 a year, better mine than theirs!
