Ian Bell retiring from first class cricket at the end of the season

Post by tiger76 » Sun Sep 06, 2020 12:44 pm

He's had a decent career, and there can't be many Englishmen that can boast 5 Ashes wins. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/54041596

Best of luck in his coaching career, and I'm sure he'll be well sought after with his wealth of experience, always a class act to watch with the bat, he not only scored runs, but he scored them stylishly.

A class act and a pivotal player in England’s progress. Understated and no bother guy who could slip under the radar but his ability and technique were there for all to see.

If you were putting together a side of the last 30 years, I reckon he would have a spot in the batting line up.

And his clone, Ollie Pope now has his place in the test team.

Bell made 50 for Warks today on a bowler friendly pitch at Cardiff, so he's still got it. Such a shame one of England's all time greats is ending his professional career in an empty stadium, I'm sure in normal circumstances he'd have attracted a full house for his farewell appearance.
