If Tarky goes then the search goes to a first choice centre back, not a Worrall.
Tomori at Chelsea might still be on the radar?
Whoever it is will have to become a lynch pin of the side more or less straight away.

Meanwhile, we continue to teach our under 23 stars (Like Thomas) how to progress. After all, there's no point in Academy One status if we don't use it.

Re: Craig Dawson
Excellent aerial threat from set pieces.
20 goals over 7 seasons averaging at just under 3 a season. Scored 8 in two back to back seasons for WBA, get him on the end of some decent corners and I'm sure he could add a few more for us.

Re: Craig Dawson
I agree that his goal threat is a bonus, but I’d rather he was good at keeping the ball out the net too. In his case, alongside Ben Mee, I’d have no doubt that Dawson would be excellent.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 11:51 amExcellent aerial threat from set pieces.

Even more so that the players we’ve had at Cat two have also just transitioned to Cat one and the new requirements and levels

Why don't we wait to see if Tarky leaves first? Everyone is jumping to conclusions and nothing is anywhere near confirmed. If it is, then I'm sure that Sean will sort it out and nothing you or I say will change what he does. That said, Thomas looks like a very useful bench warmer.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:21 pmAnd if long is on the grass, who’s sat on the Bench and away from the u-23’s

With Tarky almost certain to go we need a quality “ off the peg “ prem centre half and Kevin Long really isn’t that .He’s reliable cover but with Mee possibly out for the start and no right back signed our defence is looking very shaky indeed".

I think it’s you that is struggling. People are allowed to have different opinions to you. My opinion is that Kevin Long is a filler and no more, beyond that he is/was a liability.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 11:25 amYou seem to be struggling so I will try again with you.
If he was a liability do you think Dyche would have him even near the squad ? I am not saying he should be starting or 1st pick just that labelling hima liability is/was stupid
You don’t have to agree with me. You think my opinion is stupid, I think that yours is stupid. We move on.

Re: Craig Dawson
You are dribbling too much and not reading. We both agree that he is back up nobody is stating they want him to start week in week out, Dyche agrees he is back up. You just got a bit upset because you were being stupid for calling him a liability.
Are Tarks & Mee a liability for the Man City result ? Take your time and think a little.

Stop trying to be a condescending know it all arse and accept that people can hold opinions different to yours.
By the way folk are saying he can more than fill. Try reading yourself.

Liability - "a person or thing whose presence or behaviour is likely to put one at a disadvantage"

Re: Craig Dawson
I don't think there is any animosity towards Kevin Long. Somr are just pointing out that hes not quite good enough to be a regular in the team.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 9:56 amI don't understand this animosity towards Long. Every time he plays, he puts a good shift in and he also poses a threat going forward. Yes, he makes mistakes, but so do Mee and Tarky. As for reading the game, maybe he'd do better if he played regularly? I certainly don't think of him as instant relegation material, and those who do are being grossly unfair.
Anyway, I think Tarky's interview was aimed more at Sarfgate than anyone else. I don't think any of the top four will come in for him, and unless he goes abroad, that's the only way he'd get Champions League football.

Re: Craig Dawson
Long is 30, has been with us over 10 yars, and has started how many League games ? 60 odd maybe ? Thats because he isnt good enough to start regularly.
Re: Craig Dawson
What a shame claretonthecoast has decided to ruin this thread. He needs some anger management that lad.
As for Dawson, I think he still has a lot to offer and would do very well in our side. Would be nice if we could get someone younger, but the ones capable of playing week in, week out at PL level are probably out of budget. Dawson would probably be a safer option.

No, it's because he's been injured a lot of that time and because we have had better CHs. Not being the best, does not mean he's no good.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:31 pmLong is 30, has been with us over 10 yars, and has started how many League games ? 60 odd maybe ? The trouble is, people are comparing him with two of the best CHs in the PL. Not everyone can be the best, but he's still a very useful CH.

Gibson is an excellent centre back but couldn't get a game for us because of the consistency and reliability of Tarkowski and Mee. Long was in the same position, but as a player he's on a level below Gibson and our usual CB pairing.

I can't recall if anyone has ever tried to buy him from us, although I'm sure someone could correct me if I'm wrong.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 8:54 pmThe trouble is, people are comparing him with two of the best CHs in the PL. Not everyone can be the best, but he's still a very useful CH.
He's been out on loan a few times and has played more out on loan than for us.
Yes he's useful but lets not get excited and build him up into something he isn't.
He's never been good enough to be first choice here and he's never done enough to impress whilst playing for another club to make a serious effort to prise him away.

Re: Craig Dawson
I believe he was linked with a move to Notts Forest during the last window, but with Gibson throwing his toys about, there was no chance of that. Probably even less now.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 9:05 pmI can't recall if anyone has ever tried to buy him from us, although I'm sure someone could correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Craig Dawson
It certainly accounts for a lot of that time. He's been very unlucky with niggly injuries. Anyway, I repeat, he won't get picked even if he's third best in the PL, if our first two are fit.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 9:15 pmI didnt say he was no good, I said he wasnt good enough to start regularly. As for him being injured a lot, is that really why he averages 6 games a season , over a decade ?
Anyway, it's all irrelevant as Tarky hasn't gone anywhere yet and if all he's bothered about is Champions League football, he won't get that at West Ham or Leicester.

That was the point when Pulis was playing 4 centre halves though. I don't think he'd be anything other than the equivalent of Mee playing left back normally.

Dawson is an ideal signing imo. Experienced cover at cb, can cover rb, happy not to play every week. Also, it would mean we could sell Lowton and get an attacking rb. What's not to like?
