Trial crowds at Doncaster Races

As from today the St Leger 4 day meeting was trialing crowds to attend the meeting. But with the rise of infections health officials from Doncaster have advised that they should run behind closed doors it will still be attended today when the least amount of people are due to attend over the four days but the next three days will be run behind closed doors.I was hopeful this could have worked and been a benchmark to start opening to more sports arenas opening up but alas I personally have give up and feel 2020 is finished for crowds attending and possibly 2021 as well

A big step from thinking the end of 2020 isn't a possible, and then adding the whole of 2021.

Couldn’t make it up could you. One minute our government are banning gatherings of more than 6 people, the next minute allowing this to happen.

Head in hands.

Totally agree that 2020 is a 'no go' for sports attendance and probably the first half of 2021 too which puts football out of the game(excuse the pun). A selfish society born out of the Thatcher era along with a current incompetent, fraudulent administration are seeing to that.

It was already planned and can go ahead because the restrictions don't come in until next week. In fairness, they have now cancelled all but the first day for spectators including the big day.

Fair enough but still defies sense, just like waiting until next week to impose new restrictions, Covid isn’t less of a threat now than it will be on Monday.

Premier League clubs were working towards having fans in towards the end of October but I guess that will be shelved now.

Costing the racecourse 250k by all accounts.

The council might be getting a bill?

Beginning of October was the plan but I can't see that going ahead then or any time soon

What has the Thatcher era got to do with anything? I'd have thought society became more selfish with the invention of social media making people think that they are the centre of the universe.

I wouldn't put it down to selfishness. The government policy, it seems, is that everything is subordinate to coronavirus and nothing else matters. So until there is a proven vaccine, there is no return to normal. Sports are off, people who are ill with other diseases go untreated, and it doesn't help when halfwits in the health service and the BBC come out with bilge like just now saying that infection rates are as high as they were in April. How can they be so stupid not to realise that the number of proved cases is rising because the number of tests is rising?

Don't the council own the racecourse? Given the suggested problems caused due to the Cheltenham Festival a local authority can't be seen to be taking such a risk can they?

In my opinion Cheltenham got some really unfair publicity I work in the horse racing industry and can honestly say I know of around 600 people in the same profession as me all of whom worked all four days at the festival and handling cash and believe me or not there was not one of them that became ill by being there. We all have the same opinion ( we have our own forums and message boards) Cheltenham was used as a scapegoat

Bearing in mind how many Irish come accross to Cheltenham, had there been any outbreak, Ireland would have had a raft of cases, which they didn't.
Had the Liverpool game caused an outbreak iam absolutely sure we would have heard about it.
Lots of assumptions were made about the two events, without any real facts to back them up.

pretty pointless of the government to implement tighter restrictions when the majority of people are just ignoring all of them.
for several months we have had beaches packed, snowdonia rammed with day trippers, illegal raves, and no end of house parties and weddings with way too many guests. There have been additional lockdowns for many north west and midlands towns because folk just completely disregard the advice, therefore we all suffer. pubs are open, and nobody wears masks in shops.
and sport has been battered for spectators, but no end in sight. its a total mess.
whichever political party was in power, there would have been huge problems, but the UK public need to take a long hard look at themselves. If people adhered to the scientific advice from day one, Im certain we could be going on the Turf in the next few weeks, as it stands, that is going to be a long time in the future.

Now Newmarket trials for crowds at the end of this month are in the balance and that would be a reduced capacity of only 1000.Other courses are reluctant to sign up for trials with the last minute cancellations for Goodwood and Doncaster with the latter costing an estimated £250k .Meanwhile Chester racecourse has said it will cancel all 2021 fixtures if no crowds are admitted as it has been running at a loss behind closed doors
