Burnley’s first “mascot”
In my early days of watching the Clarets, there was a guy in a claret and blue gown and mortar board, relating to our productive academy. At that time, Everton brought the Toffee Lady and Arsenal had a guy in white slacks and a red frock coat. Any more in your memories?

I'm not sure the gown and mortar board related to anything at all. Just a strange bloke who handed out sweets to kids and then suddenly disappeared.

Remember playing at Fulham in the Ted McMinn days and they had a load of old ladies walking round the pitch throwing sweets to the fans like at Everton.
A load of Burnley fans just grabbed the toffees and chucked them back at the old ladies. Not very nice but as a teenager I found it quite amusing

In the late 50s early 60s there was a guy called David Bayliff who used to run round the pitch in the full kit.

He was the young lad who even went off to Hamburg with the team. This was some bloke who used to walk round the touchline handing out sweets to kids and always wore claret and blue cap and gown.winsomeyen wrote: ↑Thu Sep 10, 2020 2:06 pmIn the late 50s early 60s there was a guy called David Bayliff who used to run round the pitch in the full kit.

Wasn’t the guy in the mortar board and gown Bobby Driver who featured on the League Liner eating tripe?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 5:45 pmEverton still have the Toffee Lady.
