In an era where there so many quality fighters. Minter came up against one of the best ever. A very good fighter who had a fantastic career. RIP Boom Boom

A lot of hometown decisions back in the day, Minter’s first world title fight the British judge/ref gave him the decision, although there was no doubt about the result in the rematch.

Seem to remember him having a moustache at some point. Made him look like Billy Hamilton. RIP all the same.

He didn't just win a version of the world title, he was the undisputed middleweight champion until he ran into Hagler.

Tbh I thought he'd passed years ago...great boxer remember the Marvin Hagler fight and the pandemonium at the end. Some good British boxers back then... Dave "boy" Grèen and John H Stracey spring to mind having vicious bouts. RIP

A bloke who for a time was so utterly likeable he made the leap from sportsman to celebrity when it was far from a given. One of the few other than the heavyweights my dad would bother watching. RIP another part of my childhood.

I watched the fight on 'sportsnight' Marvin Hagler was the better fighter just about the winner but RIP Alan Minter.

I remember some of Minter's big fights, also from that sort of era John Conteh. Boxing wasnt the biggest sporting interest for me but my dad loved his boxing and a bit of that rubbed off on me, I can recall listening to/watching some of his fights with Harry Carpenter usually commentating I think.

Always a jolt to see somebody younger than you who was a top sportsman die; RIP Alan Minter.

Somehow i have Minter mixed up with John Conte in my memory of this fight.
Hagler went on to be one of the greatest fighters EVER!

Once ran up to the tube I was on as the doors were closing. Pulled them apart with his hands with some help from people inside as we used to do back then. !!!

Stood opposite me for a few seconds and he was just massive and chiseled. I looked his weight and height up later he was the same as me but I didn’t look anything like that! And he’d been retired 15 years!

He’s like “ where’s this tube going to then” and I’m like “anywhere you want it to Alan!”

Minter was a very good fighter and he liked to mix it and get involved in a brawl. I watched the Hagler fight back yesterday evening after reading the news of Minter's death and Hagler was far too good for Minter. Changing from southpaw to orthodox and picked Minter off at will. Minter had blood coming from his nose in the first round, cuts below both eyes in the second and the combination from Hagler that finished it knocked Minter's gumshield out and you could see clearly stunned and hurt Minter badly.

Never seen much of Alan Minter but I remember my Dad telling me that back in the day he was sure he'd beat Hagler, and was shocked when he got taken apart. I think he was more of a casual boxing fan to be honest and likely didn't know much about Hagler at the time. Reminds me of when I first got into boxing as a teenager and was absolutely convinced Hatton would beat Mayweather

Great fighter from a time when boxing ruled. It’s all so messy and horrible now. Too many unsavoury characters.

Sad news, a great fighter in an era of great fighters. His reign as Undisputed World Champion was short but he went to Vegas and beat an Italian American, no mean feat back in those days.

His demolition by Marvin Hagler overshadowed his own triumphs but the fact Hagler went on to become one of the great Middleweights justified what was a shock for the British public.
