Manure playing Villa in a friendly

Post by Woodleyclaret » Fri Sep 11, 2020 9:12 am

Apparently they couldn't play us for a league game at the Turf tomorrow due to playing in Europe next week, but can field a team to play Villa in a meaningless friendly
Sorry, imo our fixtures should not be subject to the whims of United , a once top team
When we played in Europe we played Sunday or our game could have been today given the media's favourite team a few days to recover before their next European game
Also they have enough players to play both fixtures .

I see nothing wrong with this. They need more time to be able to play us that's all, especially after the bashing at OT last season.

Our game wasn't postponed to play this friendly, they're playing the friendly because our game was postponed.

I doubt Man United are whinging about us playing that Portuguese team this afternoon.

Nothing to do with them and nothing to do with them playing in Europe next week.

The Premier League gave clubs who were in the Champions League & Europa League final tournaments some extra time. Chelsea and Wolves have had their first games put back to Monday while both Manchester clubs have been given an extra week. That information was available before those tournaments started.

Don't see what the argument is. We have been playing friendlies for two weeks now.

It also wasn't postponed because Man Utd are playing in Europe next week. It's because they played their last Europa League game less than a month ago.

Did they give a reason why Burnley couldn’t just have played Villa?

Not that the extra week will do us any harm.

Didn't the league say a minimum of 30? days break was needed between clubs last games and new season games?

I presume both clubs would prefer to keep it later in the season with the chance of fans being back in the stadiums.

Anyone with a brain knows the game was postponed because European teams had an extended break due to a later finish. It has absolutely nothing to do with them being Man United.

I suppose the argument is what’s the difference between having this weekend without a game and a weekend later in the season.

Because of when the Villa games are scheduled I would think they are both going to be televised under the standard rules for coverage.

Amazon Prime has all 10 games on Tuesday 15th/Wednesday 16th December, including Aston Villa v Burnley.

Amazon also have games on 28th Dec.

So, no chance of switching Villa game without disrupting Amazon's tv contract.

The Villa game in December needs to be moved but has to fit in with the tv coverage

Playing in a friendly cannot be compared to playing a league fixture.
