Interesting comments re Dyche in the Mail just now

Post by Chester Perry » Fri Sep 11, 2020 10:36 pm

and that is one hell of a bonus

BURNLEY CONFIDENT DYCHE WILL STAY
Burnley are confident of keeping hold of manager Sean Dyche for the whole of the season, despite his fractured relationship with chairman Mike Garlick.

The terms of his contract mean it could take £5.5million to prise him away, while he would also take a significant financial hit if he walked.

Dyche is waiting to be paid a £2.5m survival bonus for keeping his side in the Premier League last season, which is not due until January, while the club would be entitled to receive the 49-year-old’s full £3m salary in compensation if he left them for a rival.

Both costs would be passed on to Dyche’s next club, which explains why he did not receive any offers this summer despite his outstanding record.

Crystal Palace are interested in making him Roy Hodgson’s successor, but would be reluctant to pay such compensation. They are hopeful the 73-year-old can oversee another full Premier League campaign.

Would compensation be much of a barrier though?

To many clubs, a few million is chicken feed in comparison to the transfer fees paid out for players, and in addition, spending a few million on SD would be seen to represent better value than the same amount on a player.

It's why he wants more money to spend and contracts extended - to preserve his bonus ;)

That was my first thought on reading this.
Doesn't seem much to pay for a top-line manager.

I think he'll stay anyway, though.

I'm pretty sure the reason he did not receive any offers this summer is because there were no suitable vacancies for him to fill.

Clubs will make a vacancy if needs be, especially for a manager who can get promoted, keep a club up and get into the top 10 more than once.

Smith had a torrid season at Villa despite over £100 million being spent last summer.
I'm actually surprised he didn't get fired.

Palace chose to renew Roy's contract.
Then there's West Ham etc.

It may just be other clubs don't want to pay that amount of money for Dyche, or they don't fancy hiring him at all due to either his perceived style of play or the fact he does things his way.

I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again...

Sean Dyche will not get the same level of control at his next club. It’s like a Sir Alex Ferguson/Man United relationship but on a smaller scale.

Sometimes a club and a manager just fit.

Would comfortably pay £10m for a crap striker, but wouldn't cough up £5.5m for their preferred manager.

So the tight arses would rather Roy die on the job than pay £5.5m compo, charming!

I note that Bielsa has only signed a one year contract at Leeds. They might be looking for a successor once he’s kept them up a year.

Not sure that many directors would relish the thought of any confrontation with Sean. In short - he scares the B’jeezus out of them.

Palace, WHU and Villa are certainly at his level and all three amongst favourites for first sacking of the season

Palace is the dangerous one. Stable club who can compete with regards to fees and wages, would certainly provide the opportunity to push on and try and get into top 8 each year which is likely to be Dyches next step. He'll need to prove he can mix his style up to be considered for any of the bigger jobs, but that said I can't imagine any of the top 6 would go for him.

That’s just for Dyche, his back room would cost the same again.

Dyche won’t go, he’s about to be sat at the bow of a ship that’s going to have financial clout to move him into the up reaches of the League.

He and Garlick are fractured because the chairman is haggling over how much control he and one other board member keep post sale/investment, and that’s holding up the sale/investment and the deals we have in place.

Flood is making (Unpopular) moves to keep his influence post sale/investment and expand on his already successful business ideas that are linked to the club under the new regime.

What successful business ideas does Flood have that are linked to the club? If you are referring to UCFB, there are no real links there any longer.

I’m referring to the manner in which his businesses are structured and which directors are financially linked to those business and investments that he and his trust run.

They’d better get a move on with this investment then. The season starts next week and the squad is pretty threadbare. No guarantees that we’ll actually be sitting at the top table next season.

I think you’re telling porkies.

John B is THE most financially linked but it is not part of our club, the rooms in the Jimmy Mac are still referred to as UCFB but I think that's the final remnants of the sponsorship deal they did and it is not connected to our club at all now as far as I am aware. There haven't been any students at the Turf for some considerable time, they all got shunted to the Etihad.

For the investment they put into the team, yeah he failed to get the best out of them.
Kept them up by the skin of their teeth, great well done after the club spent over £100 million, really deserves a round of applause.

If Burnley had spent over £100 million on players in one summer and only just stayed up on the last day some on here would be having an absolute effing fit on here, they'd be telling everyone it wasn't good enough and the manager had to go.

You'd be one of those people.

I've been saying for months that Sean is going nowhere, and the reasons for that are many, but here's four.

1. None of the top six would hire him because they know that their players would not accept his tough regime.
2. He has almost total control at Burnley and he knows that he wouldn't get that elsewhere.
3. I believe that he wants to build a dynasty here and he hasn't finished the job yet. (He's a great admirer of Arsenne Wenger.)
4. Sean has talked about the insecurity of management, and he knows that he's pretty secure here.

Stop reading the 'Click bait' stories and just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

C'mon Sean, c'mon you PL Clarets.

I take your point, but it’s fair to say that there are some delicate financial links within the boardroom that Have had to be and may well need to be navigated in the coming weeks

I think, and it’s only think, that some of the scholars can sit UFCB pathway Btecs with the local colleges. But yeah the formal links have gone to the Saudis, which was totally the right move.

Interesting post. Another poster was questioning the lack of Garlick statement this year and also Dyches mannerism when discussing transfer targets. I've also commented that he seems muted in comparison to how he was during the lockdown period in relation to finances and transfers, yet thats not as a result of having made any signings.

You've either taken all the above and come up with an extravagant story or you've a good source of information on current goings on. Irrespective I hope we can strengthen before the deadline or we'll be in trouble come Christmas.

I don't see what the delicate links are to be honest - John & Flood are directors at the club, John owns almost 30%, but UCFB was never part of the club, that was rejected, and they've moved away from Burnley. I can't see where that links with the boardroom at BFC now any more than their other businesses to be honest.

Nothing to see here tbf , SD knows it’s a unique situation at Burnley though he also knows he needs money to take the next step .

Re: Roy , a tad unfair as Roy actually died a few years ago and has been kept alive by the latest digital nano tech mixed with super latex puppetry all operated from the gantry by celebrity fans Nick Knowles and X factors Steve Brookstein

I think if John B and Flood have shares in BFC and both have shares in UCFB, then its clear that there's a financial / business link between the pair.

I'm not a finance expert, anything but. Yes, John & Flood are both directors of the club and both directors of UCFB. I'm not sure how that would affect any potential takeover of either of the two businesses.

Assuming your information is accurate. What you're suggesting is Garlick would still like a minority shareholding on the board and that is being muddied AN/other board member over who who has the majority from that minority (it makes sense in my head what I mean  ) and outside business connections are slowing down the investment/takeover?

It’s not happening.

He’s taken a little snippet from a newspaper article months ago and fabricated this extravagant story. Premier League teams don’t just get taken over without anybody else knowing about it.

Their other business, they own UFCB together, but it doesn’t mean that the other directors aren’t investors. That’s delicate.

Flood is staying on the board post sale/investment as he is integral to the regeneration element of deal and the upcoming northern powerhouse negotiations with central and local government. You can bet that he’ll also be looking at up selling any other football club he might be involved with!

It’s not happening.

He’s taken a little snippet from a newspaper article months ago and fabricated this extravagant story. Premier League teams don’t just get taken over without nobody else knowing about it.
Got to admit it does sound extravagant but at the same time, to come up with something like that without any of it being true is impressive.

Given the number of posters who do hear small bits of inside information I would expect more noise around it if so.

Although in saying that transfers will involve a larger number of individuals across the club than a takeover, and given the sensitivities of takeovers it may be Garlick / John B / Flood only that are involved in discussions. Its normally the case these things are kept quiet as businesses need to make announcements to the stock exchange without information being leaked first (I know that's not applicable for us but same principles)

Is he involved with any other football club any longer?

People know about it, and it’s been widely reported for the last five years in the business world that investment and or sale would be welcomed.

We’ve been preparing the ‘books’ for the last 12 months.

As I have said, if it doesn’t happen, and sometimes these things fall through, then I will happily apologise.

My first thought was Salford as he had dealings with Neville in Manchester property but I remembered reading an article they were taking Flood to court.

I'm assuming that's Orlando City. He was only a bit part player I think initially but I thought he'd ended that.

It depends who is investing or purchasing. We might not report to an exchange, but they might and as such would need to follow reporting procedures.

It might be that the funds are coming from an investment arm/plc rather than a private individual and as such they’re deciding the best way forward.

First we’ll formally hear is potentially a 7:15am
announcement

I think he’s run foul of the class of 92 a couple of times, once over trademarks for UFCB, and their UA92 and then the St Michaels development, which they’re both still involved in.

Garlick once said that any takeover would be for no more than 49% of the club, as the current directors want to remain in control, so that they could stop stupid moves. It was sometime last year, so please don't ask for a link. I think it was in one of his 'Club' interview videos though.

Finding an investor willing to do that won't be easy, and I doubt that there is a takeover in the offing.

I note that Bielsa has only signed a one year contract at Leeds. They might be looking for a successor once he’s TOOK THEM DOWN this year.
