is it just me ?
Anyone else feeling eager to see a start of another campaign but inwardly fearing relegation?
I felt optimistic a few days ago, big fan of Sean Dyche, and definately no critic of the board, but there is a vague sense of things not being as they should be.
maybe just a fleeting moment on a late friday night, but there is a real worry that we just won't be up to it this season.
more than happy to express contentment a few weeks down the road if things begin well but.......

Re: is it just me ?
Normal feelings for any Burnley fan pre season. It's why we are so good at celebrating when we do well.
Although it is better to keep the pessimism to ones self and not spread it. There's a lot to be said about positive energy.

Reset expectation to zero. Neither optimistic or pessimistic. Same as every season.

With 38 games to be played nobody knows. Every season fans and management talk about 40 points being the 'safety point' --that means we could play 24 matches and lose them all but then go on to still pick up 40 points from the remaining 14 fixtures and stay up.

I don't fear relegation - just feel flat because of the current situation. I'm sat here now trying to finalise my fantasy team but it doesn't feel like the opening day of the season at all.
As it happens, I don't think we'll be relegated although I do accept that we need to get some new players into the squad and players who are ready to play Premier League football.

I always just hope we get off to a good start. Prevents the doom and gloom attitude and the pressures of being in the bottom 3 from an early stage.
Lots of noise about the club in the press if we fail to win away etc. so getting all the monkeys off our backs early releases the players.
Add to that a couple of late signings and we'll be mid table. Dyche and his team always find a way against the struggling sides.

Is it just me but Ive really lost interest with football under the circumstances and for the first time in over 45 years of being a fan I couldn't tell you one fixture of who's playing today.

First target for me is always 12 points. We don’t want Derby’s record. I don’t think we’ve got a squad who would underachieve to that extent.
I think the current squad is capable of staying up, however a few injuries and I’ll be seriously worried without some first team ready signings.

Re: is it just me ?
I think we’ll be fine.
Our first eleven is strong, still, and JBG being fit (sorry to say this) is like a new signing, he will offer us a lot more than Lennon over a full season if he stays fit.
The issue is after that eleven, as we all know. I think it’s clear we must sign a minimum of three players (CB, CM, RW) and, maybe I’m daft, I’m sure we will. We always do our business at the end of the window and sadly we have to get used to that fact.

Re: is it just me ?
The continued unrest at West Ham and Villa seemingly in for anyone with two legs who knows how to kick a ball gives me hope that even a poor season can end with us staying up.
That said, the lads almost always leave us with our chins up, chests out and proud to be claret and blue.
We'll always have an element of relegation worries prior to the new season, but as higher up the thread, my cup is half full. Bring it on.

We are a couple light I think, but if we don’t struggle with any injuries for the first couple of months our ‘togetherness’ and work ethic should see us doing ok. Not fearful of relegation.

Not as confident as last when I predicted we would finish 11th.
Due to our thread bare squad I predict 15th this time

Bloody hell, Ashington; that would be the greatest escape of all greatest escapes in history. It would be immortalised in our history though this board would be interesting in the lead up to the last game if we needed 3 points to stay up.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:04 amWith 38 games to be played nobody knows. Re: is it just me ?
If we keep our core players we should be OK, the squad as of now is incredibly light though, and you feel we'll have to rely on the same XI week in week out, that's asking a lot, but they haven't let us down yet.
The bigger plus is SD staying, he's the glue that holds our club together, and as long as he's at the helm, I don't fear relegation, we always find a way to put the points on the board, I don't expect a top 10 finish this campaign however, but survival is the principal aim at the start of every season, and this season is no different.

Re: is it just me ?
I am also worried and what made it worse for me is the fact that we were winning maximum points home and away , to Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich, can we do that again ,against Leeds, WBA and Fulham.
Re: is it just me ?
I think we will be okay in the early part of the season if we do not lose any players as the squad are united and know/play to their strengths. All the clubs that have been spending will need time to bed the new players in - our problems might start when teams get settled. I would hope though that the experience of the last few seasons will be enough for us to continue to flourish.

Other than the ridiculous hype around the Liverpool Leeds fixture I'm exactly the same, I think us not playing hasn't helped but it's definitely a flat feeling for a new season.Ptangyangkipperbang wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:16 amIs it just me but Ive really lost interest with football under the circumstances and for the first time in over 45 years of being a fan I couldn't tell you one fixture of who's playing today.

Re: is it just me ?
I’m positive
Up front Wood & Jay Rod are proven Premier League goal scorers. Barnes and Vydra as back are good for goals too. I’d certainly prefer them to, for example, Rodrigo and Watkins who are unproven in the Prem.
Midfield - McNeil keeps improving and looks to have bulked up a bit. JBG is a better footballer IMO than Hendrick, certainly a better crosser. Westwood grows in stature every year and is quality. Brownhills enthusiasm, technique and fitness shines through.
Defence - if we can keep Tarks then it’s up there with the best in league.
Yes we need numbers and no one to leave but bring it on I say!

Must admit I feel flat it just isnt the same and wont be until we can safely go on the Turf and the pub with no worries. Seeing what has happened these past months I dont want to be relegated but there are far worse things that can happen. UTC.
Re: is it just me ?
Looking forward to going back on the Turf safely. However it's that thing of not knowing when that will be, especially after this week's announcements about the 'rule of 6' on social gatherings. So feeling a bit flat at the moment as there are no timescales for returning back to stadia. As for Burnley and their hopes for this season, let's just take it one game at a time. I agree we are light on a couple of new players but I'm sure that Dyche has made fact that very clear to the board. It's one of those seasons where we need to review the squad again after the transfer deadline has closed. Hopefully we have a few points on the board by then.

This may be the kiss of death but I've not seen any pundits tip us for relegation this season. In the Observer last week where fans of all the clubs gave their predictions not one tipped us for the drop too which makes a change.
As stated above fingers crossed we get some good quality reinforcements in soon

I don't worry about us being relegated because it's almost certain it will happen eventually. So why worry, just enjoy being in the spotlight.

The only thing that concerns me is our inability to get reasonable players at a reasonable price. Our last few transfer windows have been generally poor.

Always looked forward to our first game but Covid has definitely taken the excitement away.
The situation regarding players appears normal to me, get 'em in late and save a few quid on wages. Paying someone to ponce about at Gawthorpe before the season starts? MEH!

Think we'll be ok worse teams in the league and confident we will get a few new player's in..just a shame we'll be locked out of the games for the majority of the season..
Re: is it just me ?
Any feeling of negativity from me regarding the new season entirely due to the diminishing prospect of getting fans in for the foreseeable future. We should have been anticipating a full house at home to Man U
Our first 11 is arguably as strong has it has ever been in our Premier League history. Two or three signings at most should do and keep Tarks and McNeil
