Martinez/Heaton

Looks like Martinez from Arsenal is to sign for Villa , not sure where this leaves Tom apart from on the bench again , if Pope does leave , I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back , although wages could be an issue .

No thanks, our two other keepers if pope goes are better than Heaton

There have been some remarkable statements on this board over the years, but if we were to rank them, this would certainly be in the top flight.

If we were to lose Pope, I’d have Tom back in a heartbeat.

So would I. He's still in Sarfgates thoughts for England, and I'd love to have him back.

Can't see it happening though. He moved for money, so why would he move back for less?

Can see him back here in a coaching role though, when he hangs his gloves up.

Tom Heaton’s biggest problem for a lot is he is not flashy. His communication to the defenders more than makes up for that.

I do not expect his return, but nor would I be disappointed if it happened.

Fully fit, Heaton is England’s No1.

Wouldn’t see the sense in bringing him back at 34 though. BPF is the future when Pope goes.

Martinez is having a medical after Villa agree a £20m fee.

What on Earth are you basing that on?

BPF may be decent but I haven’t seen him enough to make such a statement and surely you can’t be suggesting the keeper we signed is better than Heaton. That’s bizarre.

With Heaton due back in a little over a month, and with two back up keepers in Steer & Nyland you'd think they could manage.
£20m signing doesn't look like a temporary signing, looks like Heaton might be left out in the cold.

It does seem an odd one I must admit. Maybe Heats is still having problems? Hope not.

Aston Villa moving quickly with this, Emi Martinez will be at Bodymoor Heath later to finish his medical ahead of £20 million move. Tom Heaton believed to be taken aback by Villa's all-out pursuit to bring in a new No.1. Dean Smith concerned by Heaton's recovery. #AVFC

Very similar to our own pre season when we had to sign Hart, can’t blame Villa for needing a top keeper band Heats injury will cost him like sadly they so often have

Completely agree, just wondering what you are basing yours on. You may be correct in what you say but without something to back it up, I’m unsure why you have that point of view.

If Pope left and we re-signed Heaton to be first choice then that disrupts our process for goalies.

Pope is first choice, BPF has been promoted to 2nd choice and is next in line for when Pope goes.
Same with signing Pope and he was groomed to be Heatons successor.

Tom Heaton shouldn't have left, but he wanted a guaranteed first team place. I wish he'd never left, but there is absolutely no chance of him playing for BFC again.

Strange one. They opted for the temporary signing last season with Pepe Reina, didn't expect them to spend big on a goalkeeper this season although we don't really know when Tom will be fully fit although it is now approaching nine months since he got the injury.

He left for the monies so won't be bothered being sat on the bench will R Tom.

He left to play football, he wants to be first choice.
That's why he originally left Utd despite Fergie wanting to keep him.

If he'd stayed here, he may well have been 2nd choice.

If he can't get a game for Villa then Heaton's only way out would be a loan or a massive drop in wages to play in the championship
