Hendrick
Re: Hendrick
Going to see Brownhill in the centre for the time being so let's see how he does in his natural position
Re: Hendrick
The interesting point for me is that it seems as
if Dyche wanted to keep him and Hendrick apparently said he left to play
in his preferred position in centre midfield.
Get the feeling that even if Garlick had supported Dyche
by offering Hendrick a 4 year deal then he still probable would not have stayed.
Water under the bridge, I know but it's left us short in midfield
even more so now that it seems Cork won't be available for some time.
I can only add that it seems extremely important that we get another midfield
in asap. Like next week.

Re: Hendrick
“Bang average Prem player”
As Joey Barton said “That’s hardly an insult is it”
We’ve let go a “bang average Prem player” in hopes of paying £10/15/20 million for another “bang average prem player”..... because we’re not exactly going to sign an amazing Prem player. We couldn’t sign a player from bloody Oxford who we were linked with - who chose to stay with them.

Re: Hendrick
Expectation levels have just gone through the roof now up in geordie land. Do it every week they demand.
P.s Why couldn't Dyche get that sort of performance out of him? He never scored and got an assist in any one game for us in his 122 games?

Re: Hendrick
Just reading some of the Newcastle forums, on the day he signed it was moan moan moan, a free transfer from Burnley, a player Burnley didn't even want, championship here we come, one game in after an assist and a goal they are saying what a free transfer steal he is and one or two even mentioned champions league here we come, they are even more fickle than us

A great game for Jeff but his consistency levels and at times his couldn't be arsed attitude will find him out
I wish him well though he did ok for us
"Never scored " what about his finish after a 23 pass move v Everton?

Re: Hendrick
Just watched the highlights. For me it was typical Jeff, strolling around like he’s not doing much, but still in the right place at the right time, including the handball claim where it struck his arm.
His goal though, he’d have been snapped in two by Mee or Taylor before he had a chance to kick it like he did there if it was against us. He got lucky with very shoddy defending and took the chance.
Most other weeks the handball would have been given and his shot would sail into row Z, but good luck to him.

No issues with the guy and wish him well at Newcastle. Was a model professional for us, played out of his preferred position most of the time but always gave his best, never moaned about it and put in some very decent performances too..

I'm no Hendrick fan but credit where credits due, he had an excellent game last night. Thought he had a bit more licence in his role to what he had with us.

Good on him he’s a decent player though 100+ posts about an ex player ? I never ever did witness the so called “ Hendrick haters “ either here or on turf though it appears the excitement of his goal has brought multiple colostomy bags to bursting point
Re: Hendrick
Can’t say I witnessed a couldn’t be arsed attitude, unless you’re referring to his unwillingness to play at the end of last season. And he wasn’t alone in not playing those gamesWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 7:44 amA great game for Jeff but his consistency levels and at times his couldn't be arsed attitude will find him out

Re: Hendrick
Hendrick was awesome last night a huge loss for BFC.
We need to push the boat out and bring in an experienced midfielder. As well has brownhill performed he doesn't look ready to play a 40 game season. His form dipped towards the end of last and he will need handling correctly, for him to improve and make an impact at this level in the way Westwood as

Re: Hendrick
Surprised he had the match fitness to perform at that level. He basically hasn’t played competitive football since before lockdown and only signed for Newcastle a couple of weeks ago so has had a limited pre season (unless he was already training with them before he officially signed).

I really hope all these threads about Jeff continue because its such an interesting topic and in no way repetitive.
To think the site moderator called me tedious for making 5 jokey posts about Burnley in a whole week whilst he spends hours every day bickering about an ex player. The irony may be lost on him but it brings a rye smile to my face
Anyhow keep up the good work lads, there must be some angle to the Hendrick debate that has only been covered a few times and therefore has some life left in the argument yet

Re: Hendrick
The two attributes that define a midfielder are ability under pressure, as in Trevor Steven & Stephen Defour. and then Physicality as in George Boyd and Dean Marney.
You won’t make it in the Premier League unless you have a bit of both.
Like Defour JBG has ability and he also has speed but his body lets him down
Many a midfielder has the engine the pace the strength but their touch is too on off.
Jeff Hendrick had both but you need a football brain to utilise your ability effectively I’d say Jeff had the noggins to some degree but it had a ceiling that fell just below Premier League requirements at times, which is why he was often caught in possession.
The catalyst for utilising of physicality is desire, as displayed by the likes of Joey Barton & Dean Marney.
Jeff didn’t have the desire, and that simply let him and us down.
Before Dwight he was without doubt our best midfielder on his day, but he was constantly out worked and often out performed by players physically inferior to him and with less naturally ability.
Always for me Jeff was a could and should do better player.

Re: Hendrick
Crazy how Hendrick haters are usually the ones that droned on, "well when Brady gets back fit....." et al.
Hendrick was never injured, never not available for selection and versatile.
For a small squad that really is worth it's weight in gold.
I firmly believe that we'd have got more out of Jeff (perhaps to the detriment of the team) if we played a 4-3-3 like we did to come back against both Villa & Brighton away - where Jeff scored a great goal from a passing move (Brighton) and was heavily involved in the build up to Jay's header vs Villa ; anyhow I digress.
We'd be better off right now with Jeff in the squad.

Did well for them and was a cracking goal, think we’ve lost out not resigning him but maybe out of our wage structure to make it possible, could have mentored Brownhill into the role

Re: Hendrick
Can’t believe there’s much debate around us losing out by not re-signing him. Preferred the deft header to the goal, because WH gave him the freedom of the London Stadium to score that (albeit still needed sticking away & was a great finish).
But equally don’t think he or his agent were ever planning to re-sign for us. They wanted to run the contract down for their own financial gain. No complaints from me - their choice - but don’t think we should mourn his loss like It could’ve worked out differently.
Over to Garlick now to recruit the necessary reinforcements needed following his departure.

Re: Hendrick
Jeff Hendrick, I think he was a really good player for us, he was that extra bit of magic when playing as an inside forward behind Wood and Rodriguez.
I do wish him well and that he scored on his debut came as no surprise to me. Maybe he was just a little bit greedy with his wage demands.
I can see footballers' wages imploding if the virus and the restrictions that go with it continue through most of this season.

I’ve Never heard ( give or take the off regulation bellend who hates everyone ) people say “ he’s feckin sh1t I hate him” or is it a case unless you worship a player like some giddy teenage fanboy , you’re a “ hater “?

I don't think any of us underestimated what Jeff has in his locker, more that we didn't see it consistently enough.
He did seem to get forward more against WHU and be more fluid and I guess time will tell whether his style of play at BFC was tethered by ability or by manager's instructions.
Yes he had a great game on his debut and it'll be interesting to see how he fares week in week out.

No one has ever made a claim remotely like that, we just pointed out that a first team regular for a PL side for 4 seasons wasn't as dog shite as some on here were eagerly making out after he'd gone and we hadn't spent 4 years repeatedly trying to claim he was toss either.
The fact that he's signed for another PL is apparently not proof that he's a PL quality midfielder, he's championship or below according to some on here, probably the same people who spaff one out over the very over rated Shelvey, who some believe has the passing ability of an Ineista style player.
