England vs Australia 2nd ODI
Scheduled to start at 1PM, if the weather holds, which for once in Manchester it looks like it will.
Steve Smith expected to return for the Aussies, I'd guess England will be unchanged.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
I'd definitely bat, they're using the same pitch as the 1st game, so it's bound to show some wear and tear come the 2nd innings.Local cricketer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 12:06 pmWin the toss bat. Post over 300 and bat them out the game
England had Australia on the ropes the other day, and then they let them off the hook, and paid the price, when you've got these blighters down, keep them down.
Morgan & Root are due scores today, they are the senior players, and they need to stand up and be counted.

Morgan gets a lot of praise for his captaincy but his love of chasing is a major weakness of his.

Bairstow to block it until the 28th over, putting everybody else under pressure, and then being pleased with a 100 ball 80. Joe 30 to get his usual 30 today I reckon.
Come on England.....

Roy given out LBW, but overturned on review as it was bouncing miles over the stumps.

At least he was put out of his misery early today. Just the 7 balls swallowed up.
He's very lucky that Alex Hales has got zero braincells.

Taxi for Bairstow, completely agree with dandeclaret, learn to keep the board ticking over, you don't have to hit boundaries all the time, but pick up the ones and twos when you can, England have lost the art of doing the basics in white ball cricket.

I can’t work out just how Bairstow gets in the team
Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
Probably because Gareth Southgate is one of the selectors.

Not a huge fan of his, but to be fair, he did average 48 opening the batting at the World Cup.
Looks out of touch at the minute though

Abysmal from England, Roy was looking in decent touch as well, down to Root and Morgan to rebuild now.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
50 is finally up, shame it's taken until the 16th over, it's not an easy batting track though, so if England can get to 250 or so, then they are still in the game, right at this minute 250 looks a long way away though.

Morgan is going well, but he needs someone to stick with him for a few overs and build a partnership.

149/8 Woakes departs, England in severe danger of being bowled out here, still 10 overs remaining.

If Roy had been backing up instead of ball watching he would have made his ground comfortably.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 1:39 pmJoe 30 runs out the batsman who looked in a little bit of nick.

200 up for England, Rashid and Tom Curran have a 50 run partnership now, valuable runs.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
Well done Tom Curran and Rashid, they've at least given England something to bowl with, got over 200 anyway, England's best hope is the pitch breaking up, and as the 1st game showed this Aussie batting line-up can be vulnerable.

England 231 after 50 overs. Didn't think they'd get that many half an hour ago. 53 runs in last four overs.

Great batting from our bowlers, over to you bowlers again to win it now.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
230 is not a bad total on this pitch, a few early wickets and the Aussies could get nervy, they've already thrown away a T20 game on this tour, that they had in the palm of their hands.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
I don't think it's enough. There's not a lot of pressure to be released with that target. They only have to nudge and nurdle to win it, and suspect that's how they will go about it.

Re: England vs Australia 2nd ODI
Agreed that's why we'll have to bowl them out to win, it won't help our chances by missing run out opportunities as Morgan just has.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 5:32 pmI don't think it's enough. We'll probably lose narrowly due to our mistakes in the field. We've been way below par recently.
Another shocker from Bairstow a couple of minutes ago.

When Jofra's good, he's very good, England still well in this, Rashid might have to winkle a few out when he comes on, but at least it's a contest now, when a couple of hours ago it looked like an Australian procession.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 6:01 pmArcher gets Stoinis.... How come Australia have no problem getting quick singles by simply dropping the bat on the ball?

In this instance, because they aren't under pressure to set a big score to defend, and it's all they need to do.
