I’ve heard it’s going to a company that runs petting zoos, owned by a cousin of Michael Gove (it’s his turn), but they’ll be very modern electric forms in Excel running on PCs with the latest edition of XP. At £2.5 Billion this was a deal too good to lose by going to tender.

Looks like the EU are matching the UK stance of hardball and threatening No Deal

Surprise, surprise both sides are apportioning blame on the other, this isn't a good outcome for either, and sadly neither will compromise, so this is the end result I'm afraid.martin_p wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 12:06 pmAnd it looks like no deal will be the answer

There may still be a deal at the 11th hour, but it's looking less likely by the day, and alas it's the British public that will reap the consequences of the ensuing chaos which will follow.
This government lurches from one crisis to the other, and the sooner they're booted out the better, what carnage they'll leave for the next government to clear up is a worry, and this pathetic bunch still have 4 years at the reins FFS.
Is it any wonder nearly 60% of Scots polled now back independence, and there's a very strong chance that BJ will preside over the break up of the UK, which for a staunch unionist is an irony.

Those Brexiters were almost right when they claimed the Union will collapse once we leave the EU. It was just the wrong Union.

You missed the whole important word that precedes your disingenuous half-quote. Here's the full quote-
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, the international trade secretary said: “The free trade agreement that we will have to do with the European Union should be one of the easiest in human history.
“We are already beginning with zero tariffs, and we are already beginning at the point of maximal regulatory equivalence, as it is called. In other words, our rules and our laws are exactly the same.”

To be fair to Boris, he’s certainly shown some decisive leadership here, even if you may not like the decision.
Like any divorce, it’s going to be carnage, but I think in years to come the gain will be worth the pain.

Never quite understood what fantastic benefits people expect in years to come.
Prices, due to market forces will always find their level so will be pretty much similar to what they are now, whether that be on cars, food, holidays etc.
It's not as though we've had to live our lives under some tyrannical leadership and we will soon be free of all this enslavement.
Likewise, we are not going to see jobs for all where everyone is earning so much that even the poorest in society will be able to live in luxury.

Upon being told of the statement by Boris an EU spokesman summed it up perfectly "What a load of utter nonsense."
The hissy fit statement from Boris was designed for those sitting in the Brexit gallery and probably reached it's target audience.
That the scheduled talks will continue next week as normal is a racing certainty.

I like how No Deal is now being described as "The Australia solution"...a bit like when your car's engine blows up and it's "the Krakatoa solution".

Just to put it into a context that not all countries have a deal, people are familiar with a Canadian deal or a Norwegian deal. It’s nothing new to those that have been following itStalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:56 pmI like how No Deal is now being described as "The Australia solution"...a bit like when your car's engine blows up and it's "the Krakatoa solution".
Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
We didn't need a deal to enable us to leave the EU. We could just leave. What was to be agreed was the withdrawal agreement which would then be the basis for the deal with the EU.
“We’ve just got to put it in at gas mark four, give it 20 minutes and Bob’s your uncle, we have a deal with the EU that is ready to go, it is oven ready… you just put it in the microwave and there it is.”

This isn't even for the negotiating table it's all for the domestic audience, to be seen to be standing up (against the deal they themselves agreed too and sold the electorate) and the later they make the actual deal the easier it will be to spin that they made the EU cave at the last moment to a deal that will see the UK diminished in almost every area at the same time as dealing with Covid.

Is it not the same position as Macron stated last night? Didn’t see that described as a French hissy fit for their domestic voters ahead of next years election. Or Merkel pleading with Johnson not to walk away.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:23 pmUpon being told of the statement by Boris an EU spokesman summed it up perfectly "What a load of utter nonsense."

They've been trying that rebranding for ages. I noticed the BBC clarified it as no deal.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 5:56 pmI like how No Deal is now being described as "The Australia solution"...a bit like when your car's engine blows up and it's "the Krakatoa solution".
Even describing no deal as an Australia type deal is a big stretch given that there are a number of agreements between the EU and Australia.

Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
Either way you put it - it hasn't been the easiest in human history has it? The "should" didn't happen because we the electorate at the time of the 'Vote' were promised both a deal for the financial sector AND a fishery agreement NEVER both going to happen to our benefit and the EU's loss.
Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
The "oven ready" deal was very clearly a pre-election reference to the October 2019 deal (withdrawal agreement), which he promised to get through parliament within weeks of the election if he won. This was very clear and it did happen.aggi wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 6:04 pmWe didn't need a deal to enable us to leave the EU. We could just leave. If you think he was referring to a comprehensive trade deal on top of the withdrawal agreement then that is your mistake. I'm surprised anyone thought that was going to happen a few weeks after the election, as most people seemed to think it would take years.

I'm referring to the withdrawal agreement as well. Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
We agree then. Oven-ready, signed, sealed and delivered. Not sure why we are celebrating it 9 months later though, as the next stage doesn't seem to be going too well...
Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
Of course the trouble with oven ready is the reality and s never as good as what’s on the packaging. So much so in this case that the government are prepared to break the law so they don’t have to stomach it. They really should’ve checked the ingredients.

A no deal departure will mark a new level of incompetence on the part of our government. Four and a half years after the vote, they’ve still not made it work.

Amazes me still that so many people still can’t understand that this is a negotiation- everything you read or hear is what they want you and the other side to hear. The same people who demanded to know what the government were aiming for.
Especially amazing as we have so many seasoned football agents on here who proclaim to be expert negotiators.

Johnson has already repudiated elements of the withdrawal agreement, which, if the term only referred to the withdrawal agreement, it was still supposed to be the basis for the ongoing relationship. So it was never “oven ready” and probably a lie from the outset.

Let's be fair, David Davis was absolutely effing garbage in his role, May wasn't much better.
Note how things have motored along with this new lot in charge

Have things motored on, or has the clock run down? What is it the new lot have actually achieved? The withdrawal agreement arrived at was the same as May’s, with the addition of the border down the Irish Sea (rather than the backstop). No trade deal has been achieved yet, and that will be the big test.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 9:13 pmLet's be fair, David Davis was absolutely effing garbage in his role, May wasn't much better.

I suspect with May and Davies running the show we'd still have both in.
Re: Wow BJ eviscerates the EU!!!
I don't know who "they" are and I probably don't want to! As for how it's going... the "it" I have been discussing is only the signing of the oven ready withdrawal agreement. So it is not going it's gone! It was signed off by the EU and the UK in January and as a result we left on 31 January 2020. Conveying this simple fact has been extraordinarily difficult!
If you are asking how the next phase is going towards the future relationship then I simply do not know. It doesn't look too good at the moment but then Burnleyareback makes a good point that it is probably best to be patient and wait to see what happens beyond the posturing. But there isn't much time to play with.
