ARTICLE: Three likely to be ruled out for opening games
Some good news about two of them, but seems all of Barnes, Mee & Cork will be missing this week

I presume the first team will all play in the league cup to get some minutes in them?
He would be stupid to play a 2nd string.

I suspect he'll tell us that he'll put a team out strong enough to win the game - that's the usual one but then we don't. It's different this year though both with lack of numbers and being the first game.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:14 amI presume the first team will all play in the league cup to get some minutes in them?

Last season when we kicked off we basically had two players for each position.
Goal: Pope, Hart, BPF
Right Back: Bardsley, Lowton
Left Back: Taylor, Pieters
Centre Back: Tarkowski, Mee, Long, Gibson
Right Midfield: JBG, Lennon
Left Midfield: McNeil, Brady
Centre Midfield: Westwood, Cork, Hendrick, Drinkwater
Forwards: Wood, Barnes, Rodriguez, Vydra.
With injuries and departures it's a bit different now.

Under normal circumstances I would agree, but with us already being a game behind the rest of the premier league in fitness terms and not having a full pre season.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:16 amI suspect he'll tell us that he'll put a team out strong enough to win the game - that's the usual one but then we don't. It would be madness to not use this game to sharpen them up.

Totally agree. He won't risk someone who maybe has a slight niggle but I'm expecting an almost full strength team.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:21 amUnder normal circumstances I would agree, but with us already being a game behind the rest of the premier league in fitness terms and not having a full pre season.

Ben Mee is more than likely touch and go. Dyche will stick with Long until his form starts dipping, which it normally does after 5 or 6 games

Normally? How often has he had five or six games?

What's really "touch and go" right now is we are one or two injuries/suspensions from having to throw in completely unproven youngsters.

I imagine Mee will come straight back into the team when fit as he always does.Top Claret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:32 amBen Mee is more than likely touch and go. Dyche will stick with Long until his form starts dipping, which it normally does after 5 or 6 games

He had 9 games last season and his form dipped.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:43 am"Dyche will stick with Long until his form starts dipping, which it normally does after 5 or 6 games."

Dyche will only bring Mee back when he is 100% fit. The Dyche style is not to drop a player until he has had a few bad games, this as always worked and been the corner stone of our success.
Good management is man management
Re: ARTICLE: Three likely to be ruled out for opening games
So we could do with as many of those 5 or 6 games as possible being in the cup, puts an extra incentive on getting through tomorrow then I suppose.
And he will be a long in 3, 2, 1....

Re: ARTICLE: Three likely to be ruled out for opening games
That’s not true with Mee, when was the last time he spent multiple games on the bench? It does apply to the majority of our players but the likes of Mee and Wood usually come straight back into the side when fit. I think Long understands where he sits in the pecking order and that’s one of the reasons he’s been a very useful squad player for us.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:37 pmHe had 9 games last season and his form dipped.

Re: ARTICLE: Three likely to be ruled out for opening games
Long played the last seven last season which were his only Premier League games all season. When he’s played previously he’s always been quickly removed when the regular player has been available again. No waiting for any bad games.Top Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:37 pmHe had 9 games last season and his form dipped.

No surprises with those 3 to be fair. And even if Mee was back, I wouldn't risk him for a cup game.

But that's not 'Normally'. That's on one occasion.
