The main requirement for being Radio 2's breakfast show DJ appears to be the ability to fake colossal "excitement" and enthusiasm for every single "celebrity" on earth and for every single activity being undertaken by any listener or by the BBC as a whole. Zoe Ball is unlistenable, as was Evans before her, for this reason alone for me. Can't remember her ever saying anything vaguely witty or interesting and both she and Sara Cox seem to be aimed squarely at the "yummy mummy" population. As Morrissey once said the DJs have nothing to say about my life.

Radio 2 is pretty tired stuff really and I've largely diverted to Radio's 5 and 6 nowadays. Shows I enjoy are Johnny Walker on a Sunday afternoon, Jo Whiley of an evening and , weirdly, Lisa Tarbuck on Saturday evening. My partner loves the latter and , after being force fed it by her, I've now started to get it and there aren't many radio programmes around where your as likely to hear the Clash as Hoagy Carmichael.

There's been quite a bit of controversy at the Beeb re women's pay being a lot less than men's pay, they've had to rectify that to some degree (or make it look like they've rectified it). She's the big winner (a 264% increase).
Fiona Bruce has likewise gained; £260k to £450k per year (+73%). Lauren Laverne also: £310k to £400k (+29%).
Poor old Vanessa Felz has had to do with a mere +14% (£360k to £410k).
I wonder if the tea ladies and cleaners have had similar largesse bestowed upon them?

I stopped paying my DD in June so thankfully dont feel personally aggrieved. However, it's a bit sad that BBC is killing itself (employing more and more managers, "celbs'"wage bill going up and up but losing customers (albeit that's alleviated to some degree because anybody who watches any live TV elsewhere has to fund them).

Gary took a wage cut but signed a 5 year deal, so BBC can now say their biggest earner is female.

Yeah, but so is Dan fookin Wootton so being on Talkradio can't be used as a barometer for anything.

We all love to watch quite a few male professionals who appear once or twice locally and get at least that amount every year.

The Radio 2 breakfast show has always been one of the biggest in terms of salary (I'm sure Chris Evans was top when he presented it) due to listeners. Though judging by listening figures, she may not be there for long... Fiona Bruce has long campaigned for more equal pay for women, so appears to have successfully rattled some cages. I must admit, Steve Wright remains the most astonishing to me.

Tough one for the BBC, as they have to pay 'market rate' for 'talent' (I appreciate that word is subjective) but they are difficult figures to justify considering business model and the times we're in. Fair play to Lineker - he could easily have cleared off and would easily have found better paid work on the commercial channels (I know he's already on BT, but I wouldn't be surprised if others were interested, here and abroad).

Are the BBC employing more managers? I thought they'd cut them, if anything. Plus, managers are necessary in an organisation as vast as the BBC, despite their bad press. And again, to get the best managers you have to pay the going rate, public funded or not.

Interesting that they were discussing BBC salaries on Breakfast this morning and Esther Rantzen suggested a wage cap of £150,000 a year. She went into more detail about how many perks BBC presenters get on top of salaries that they really should be grateful for in their profession. Was quite enlightening how many perks they get on top of salaries.

"Are the BBC employing more managers? I thought they'd cut them, if anything."

253 senior managers, up from 250 the previous year. Total headcount up from 19,231 to 19,572. Not huge increases but they are supposed to be reducing.

237,000 licence holders lost (in an increasing population). Not making much impression on younger viewers and alienating a lot of older viewers.

The figures are for year to March 2020 cf figures to March 2019. Id suggest the licence losses and viewer ratings have fallen at an accelerated rate since then ( BLM "peaceful protests" coverage ridicule; Defund the BBC movement; introduction of licence fees for 75+ group; Last night of Proms etc etc).

Not a fan of hers either but she does make valid points. No need for presenters to be on obscene amounts of money from a publicly funded service. She was a guest.

I used to watch the One Show until I found out how much that Jones Presenter was earning. Apparently, she's earning in excess of £400K yearly. That's a ridiculous amount of money, in my view, to pay someone who, to me, has very limited talent. BBC say that they are paying market rates for people like Jones, I doubt though on the free market that Jones would be paid anywhere near £400K yearly. It rankles me big time that Jones is being paid this amount of money from of BBC Licence fees which I contribute to. In my view, Jones could be easily replaced by someone on half that yearly salary and the BBC viewing figures for the One Show wouldn't be significantly affected.

Fair do’s, though I think the latest DG has announced a tightening up of management recently.

I think you’re overstating the license fee losses but we’ll see at next year end. I don’t even know what you mean by ‘BLM peaceful protests coverage ridicule’ which I doubt has caused as many waves amongst the mainstream viewership as you might think.

This week they've had ( of the top of my head) Benjamin Butterworth and several other regular left wing contributors , the editor of the New European, the editor of the Independent, An interview with a representative from Full Fact, Neil Oliver all of which they do on a weekly basis.

There's a reason why Talkradio on DAB+ is the fasting growing conversation radio station on the planet.

The Left hate the masses having a choice.

They're petrified of the masses not choosing The Left

Are the issuues of rampant racism and sexism in all our schools, Burnley included - one imagines, and their holding back of poor, white working-class boys ever discussed ?

Or are the Right so far up their own arseholes that they daren't ascertain whether these issues actually exist and, if they do exist, actually demand some remedial action, particularly if one's own child is at risk ?
