How many families used to travel away in the 70s watching Burnley?
I thought it was just hooliganism everywhere?

A couple of future managers in the Hull line-up with Terry Neill and Ken Knighton. Missed this fixture as I was on the M1 on my way back to London for my 3rd and final year. At least there was a game to come in East London on Monday night.

He’d played against us for Carlisle just a few weeks earlier on the opening day of the season.

Neill was player/manager at the time and went on to manage both Spurs & Arsenal.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 12:40 pmA couple of future managers in the Hull line-up with Terry Neill and Ken Knighton. Re: ARTICLE: Burnley held at Boothferry Park
if I remember right, we were escorted the couple of miles from Paragon station to Boothferry Park. Stopped by the coppers from breaking away from the escort to go to a boozer and returned on a train as there was a stop right outside the stadium.

Also combined his Player/Manager role at Hull as well as with Northern Ireland. Busy fella. Couldn't be done nowadays.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:11 pmNeill was player/manager at the time and went on to manage both Spurs & Arsenal.

He did. He also had Tommy Doc working with him at Hull for a while before Doc took the Scotland job.claretfern wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:48 pmAlso combined his Player/Manager role at Hull as well as with Northern Ireland. Busy fella. Couldn't be done nowadays.
Was only thinking of Tommy DOC the other day and thought he must be getting on now in years. He’s 92 now.

This is how I remembered it. No sign of any trouble either, which was unusual at the time.strayclaret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 1:11 pmif I remember right, we were escorted the couple of miles from Paragon station to Boothferry Park. Boothferry station was literally next to the ground with turnstiles on the platform.
