Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
Felt it was solid last pre season friendly. Good cup win.
Hope JBG isn't too bad.
Plusses
Like the look of Benson.
Brownhill growing into the team and lots more to come.
Centre halves were better than adequate
Vydra looks keen
Minuses
Not sure we will see the Brady of old back.
Plus and minus
Not sure Vydra has what it takes at this level

I’d say he will definitely miss Sunday’s gameVegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:42 pmcouldn't watch the game as had things to do - is JBG going to be out for a while or was it just a knock ?

I totally disagree with this comment.
Brady is a left-sided player. He's taken far too much stick on this thread despite the fact that he's doing his best on the wrong side. I was surprised when SD put Pieters on the left, thought he'd be a straight replacement for JBG.

Anyone know why Clarets Player was not covering the match?

Not sure if you've ever played the game, starting to doubt you've ever watched it. Dyche knows what he is capable of. I know what he is capable of on tip top form. He's a winger, short on fitness, confidence and scared of that next injury ruining his career. By definition he will try things and lose the ball. He's a f*cking winger! At least he's trying to be creative. It'll come off in time.

Can't understand the negativity. First game of the season with a 2nd choice CF pairing. I thought we played really well. Great to see Dunne and Benson get a shot. We knocked the ball around very well in close quarters at times. Good watch I thought. UTC

Opinions mate and yes I have played the game to a reasonably high standard. The trouble is, when we have a full squad how is he ever going to get match fitness when he is probably third choice to play on his favoured left foot. Hence my previous comment about any decent defender being able to read his game very easily.BenWickes wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:50 pmNot sure if you've ever played the game, starting to doubt you've ever watched it. Hope I’m wrong and he gets back to his best but I very much doubt it.

Some people expect us to come out of the traps at 110% and play perfect football. Bad news. It will take a good three, four or five games to get into stride. Knives are out for some after one.Rumbletonk wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:53 pmCan't understand the negativity. First game of the season with a 2nd choice CF pairing. I thought we played really well. Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
Positives
Excellent Penalty's
Through to next round
Did ok after a shambolic start
Good to see the commitment to the BLM cause with continuing to take the knee
Negatives
Injury to JBG is exactly what we didnt want
Squad looks wafer thin still
Lackluster performance against Sheff Utd B team doesnt fill you with confidence and hope for the season ahead
Overall the positives just edge it by nature of winning the shootout

Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
The one big positive I thought was Brownhill. Full of energy, always wanting the ball and looking more and more comfortable at this level.
Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
Well. Apologise if I am blunt but Gordaleman chaps my ass by constantly criticising the poor bloke. Dyche sees the potential and that'll do for me. A player takes time to recover after a serious injury and not just physically. He's no McNeil but at his best is a marauding winger with a dead ball to die for. I'm like you. I hope he gets the confidence back because it's that and the fear of losing his career I think that is making him make mistakes.ralphc wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:53 pmOpinions mate and yes I have played the game to a reasonably high standard. Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
1st half wasn't great, but 2nd half we were much better, in a cup tie all that matters is getting through, sadly our win has come at a cost, and we've got another game next Wednesday, with an already depleted squad.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:34 pmWe may have been rubbish for 90 mins but we arent half fantastic at penalty's.
Positives- Benson didn't look overawed, Dunne did OK, Vydra got a goal, and we got a good 90 minutes under our belts.
Negatives-JBG being crocked by a terrible challenge, and the guy wasn't even yellow-carded, and Tarks apparently missing with a foot injury.
Win at Millwall next week, and we're 1 win away from the last 8, maybe we will have a cup run this year after all. whether we want one or not.

Oh, and how many of his dead balls go into the wall, just like tonight when he pulled rank on Brownhill?

You said, not verbatim as I cannot be bothered scrolling through that he was rubbish wherever he played in this thread and you've been banging on about him on any thread you can.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 8:03 pmI didn't say a thing tonight until other people starting mentioning how bad he was. Regards him as I said before. Which seems beyond your comprehension. Players don't just switch on like your TV and perform. He's been out for ages. It's what he provides as a squad member, a team member and as he builds it all back up a first team member. He'll get that back. I am sure Brady will thank you for your support tonight as he won us the game.

Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
What a stupid comment. Just because he took the last penalty and managed to score, doesn't mean he won us the game. What about the other penalty takers, don't their goals count?BenWickes wrote: ↑Thu Sep 17, 2020 8:14 pmYou said, not verbatim as I cannot be bothered scrolling through that he was rubbish wherever he played in this thread and you've been banging on about him on any thread you can.

As others said tonight and some before tonight, all he's good at is losing possession. I wish with all my heart that it was different, but it isn't.

Looking at the photo gallery on the club site and the picture of the challenge on JBG looks shocking. The gaffer is quite right to be angry that nothing was done when it should have been a straight red... I hope it looks worse that what it seems...

Looks even worse than I thought it was. Makes you wonder why the club chose to include it in the shots though. Re: Burnley v Sheffield United - Match Thread
The expression on Brady's face when he put away that winning penalty said it all to me.
He had withstood the pressure and was animated with passion.
You normally get such passion from someone who knows he has something to prove. I'm guessing it won't be to the knockers, more likely to himself, the club, his teammates and to the rest of the us who want him to do well this season.
