New Lockdown

Post by MRG » Thu Sep 17, 2020 7:09 pm

Hearing a few whispers that it will be announced either tonight or tomorrow of an increased lockdown for the Burnley area similar to those enforced in the North East today.

Hoping that it isn’t true

No surprise when you've got lines of perfectly healthy people queueing opposite Tesco car park to be tested

What makes you say that, the impact upon the economy?

The signs don’t look good, as things stand, and if all of the previous talk about the the colder months being the biggest concern, the current increases could be small fry, by comparison.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see another lockdown before we’re anywhere near at the end of this.

How? If they are perfectly healthy, they won't return positive results? Unless of course you're a qualified clinician and give them the once over before the swab?

There won't be any kind of lockdown that matches that of 23/3

Maybe an attempt to limit movement of the proles in a recreational sense, but nobody will be denied access to anywhere with a till.

Economy... Better treatments....... Masks, local lockdown, pubs closing, social distancing... Economy... Pressure from the public unless deaths go up, but whilst flu is killing 10 times more than covid the public wouldn't stand for it..... Better testing...... Quicker testing..... Possible vaccine..... Economy.

Should just lockdown the over 50's and let the younger generation get on with life and help get the country back in shape. Old people carping on (as Mogg would put it) about anything and everything isnt doing anyone any good so let them shout at the clouds from the safety of their own homes where they cant do any damage

At least we'll still be able to go grouse shooting. Thankfully we have people in charge who are really in touch with the needs of the population.

Far too many people blatantly ignoring social distancing. Masks don't mean you can ignore it. Has anyone actually seen a group of teenagers social distancing ? Now even many of the older generations are just leaning towards people talking closely and there is no distancing outside many pubs and cafes. Wouldn't be surprised to see a sharp rise in winter months and full on lockdown unless people observe the more lenient rules.

You’ve seen the inaccuracy of the PCR tests haven’t you? Secondly, if I’m ill, pretty much the last thing I’m doing is standing in a ******* car park in a queue to find out that I’m ill.

Masks is an interesting one.

Over the last two weeks, I’ve been in numerous shops in North, Central and Southern England, South Wales, North Wales and Scotland - people are not wearing masks or enforcing the wearing of masks in shops, as they should be, from my experience. There are too many smaller businesses not acting appropriately.

It’s going to be a more difficult act to balance than March.

The clinical staff at work are worried about it. People stayed away from A&E last time so hospital was empty. The fear is the same messers won’t stay away in a second spike.

Whilst I was in Greece last week you couldn’t go in shops without masks on, couldn’t go in my hotel without one on and all staff were wearing them too.

I’ve never got why staff in shops don’t have to wear a mask, defies sense.

Yeah, I suppose if they have a symptom, or symptoms they want to know if they have it. If I have bog standard cold, im still working and meeting mates, Where as if I have covid im staying in, theres the difference.

I know a couple of people that work in A&E at Bradford Royal Infirmary. As you say, A&E was extremely quiet, whilst those on Covid related duties were rushed off their feet.

There may have been the odd few that didn’t go to A&E when they should have done, during lockdown, but really A&E was probably operating at the level of business that it should be, if two hats weren’t shitting all over the system.

Wales was a bit unfair of me to pinpoint - at the time I was there, masks were not compulsory.

Wherever it is, they should be fining the shops and the patrons for not wearing masks.

Been saying for a couple of months there will be. Bound to. People just can't think sensibly. I hear Merseyside is going into partial lockdown before weekend. Higher figures than Birmingham. That's almost 1/6 of the entire population of the UK and it's no coincidence it's just a couple of weeks after the Bank Holiday.

I can't see it. I think the risk to the economy is too great for Boris. I think we'll stick with local lockdowns and just have a lot of them.

If they aren’t proper local lockdowns they won’t make a difference though, not one of the local lockdowns at the moment will be having much impact.

It’s also because no other area of the NHS is operating normally, so people pitch up at A&E. All these lockdowns do is kick it down the road a bit more.I wear my mask in shops, socially distance and play by the rules, but it’s clear as day we can’t continue in this stasis like existence for an unspecified amount of time. The virus is endemic, so tough choices not involving lockdown need to be made. The problem is our political leaders aren’t brave enough to make them.

There won't be a national lockdown again, just every area of the country will be in "local lockdown".

You try wearing a mask for 8 hours and let me know your opinion after that about shop staff wearing one.

I wouldn't do it in my weekend job, I'd refuse.

It's easier for customers to wear one for 5-20 mins than it is for staff to wear one all day.

Yeah I'm exactly that despite working all the way through the pandemic in both of my jobs

Customers are in and out of shops within a reasonable amount of time yet you're calling shop workers the selfish ones.
Yeah that makes massive sense.

Some shop workers will wear protective items when on the shop floor, but it's not an unreasonable request to want customers to wear them for short periods of time.

I do, for 13 hours. Not the surgical masks either. A tight FFP3 mask. Also add goggles, full gown and gloves.

Wearing a surgical mask for 8 hours isn’t difficult. Surgeons do it all the time

I do, for 13 hours. Not the surgical masks either. A tight FFP3 mask. Also add goggles, full gown and gloves.

Wearing a surgical mask for 8 hours isn’t difficult. Surgeons do it all the time
You're more likely to be in direct contact with an infected person, that's the risk you take in your job and you're already well aware of those risks.
Shop workers are less likely to be in contact with an infected person to the best of their knowledge.

Well go on then, let’s have it what are you seeing?

We went a long time with no covids in hospital. None in ICU. That isn’t the case now and isn’t the case in other hospitals.

It’s not unreasonable for shop staff to wear them. It’s not like it’s hard work. Shop workers in Greece were wearing them in 30 degree heat but British snowflakes can’t cope? Give me strength.

Paramedics who I chat with at the weekend are adamant it's going to hit the UK hard again, especially in the winter.
