Foreign characters

Post by Guller Bull » Sat Sep 19, 2020 8:51 am

I know spelling is pretty bad any way on here but hell we have no chance now with fancy foreign players who have special characters in foreign langauges in their names.

What is that thing above Vydras name called and where do you get one?

Also does Gudmundsonn have a special Icelandic "d" - are they available in local retailers?

I think they're called 'Diacritics' or 'Accents'

I.E: Matěj Vydra or Guðmundsson

I was asked a couple of years ago by a Scandinavian member of this board if I would consider using the correct lettering for JBG's name which I have done ever since, so from around December 2018 rather than Johann Berg Gudmundsson it has been Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson.

Likewise I always use Matěj Vydra and in the past I used Alexander Kačaniklić and should I refer to Joey Gudjonsson now it will be Joey Guðjónsson.

Hard work sometimes with the opposition on match reports.

Do you have them saved? Or change keyboard every time you need one.

Is there a sexier word than umlaut?

If I'm on my computer I have to copy & paste them into the message board if I need them. If I'm writing articles then I tend to use Word first so am OK with that.

If I'm on my phone then it is easy for some of the characters such as an umlaut or the acute accent on the O in JBG's first name. But I have Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson & Matěj Vydra saved on my phone for when I'm setting up the man of the match votes after away games.
