Can you spot the Burnley connections?

Post by ClaretTony » Sat Sep 19, 2020 11:39 am

Below are the results from Saturday, 6th March 1971. Can you spot any Burnley connections among the goalscorers? I think I've found three.

Blant yes, Colin Blant.
Waldron no, other than it being Alan Waldron who is Colin's brother.
Mullen no, it is Jimmy Mullen but not the one who managed us. He didn't play for Rotherham until 1980.

On the subject of brothers (Waldron) - Viv Busby scored for Luton and his brother Martyn played for us.

That's the other one.

I've also just spotted Kevin Randall having scored for Chesterfield. He was assistant manager there when Sean Dyche played for them and he was working for Dyche at Burnley until he passed away last year.

I was interested to see the £ figure in the FA Cup results alongside the attendance. Presumably that's the gate receipts?

Yes, gate receipts. A bit of a difference to today.

The Kidd who scored for Man U is Brian Kidd who is now an assistant manager at Man City. Better known though to us as the manager who took Blackburn down in 1999.
