Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
Lots of media coverage here at the moment about lack of testing capacity and people being giving test appointments 100's of miles from where they live.
There's a testing station in Burnley centre at the moment meant for people without symptoms which always seems to have plenty of people queing up to get tested.
I play table tennis at Hybnburn leisure centre Thursday mornings and part of the car park there is being used as a Covid testing station for people with symptoms and there's hardly anyone there when I go.

Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
I thought people were no longer supposed to go for a test unless they had symptoms, or had been instructed to take one?

Family members tried to book one last week locally and the nearest one available was Inverness
They ended up just having a private one for £50

Son needed one last week, I went online and the nearest was Pudsey, refreshed the page a few times over the course of 15 minutes and got one in Nelson the next morning. Results back in 36 hours (negative).

What are mild symptoms? You’ve either got a temperature or a persistent new cough or you haven’t.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 10:06 amOur R rate is 1.6 here so were in the s**t frankly atm. Ive got some mild symptoms so getting tested and 1st slot i could get was thursday

Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
The advice has always been and still is not to book a test appointment unless you are instructed or have symptoms but the 'walk in no appointment required' stations like the ones near Tesco in Burnley are currently for people without symptoms.
If you have symptoms you shouldn't be going to a 'walk in' test centre, you should be self isolating and trying to book a test appointment at a designated test site (like the one at Hyndburn) online or by phone.

Mild symptoms are symptoms which are less severe than severe symptoms. A persistent irritating cough or a temperature one degree above normal are mild symptoms. A cough that leaves you bent double or a temperature five degrees above normal are severe symptoms.

So the symptoms are persistent new cough or a high temp then. If you don’t have that then don’t waste money and time getting a test. Obviously I hope the OP is ok.

That’s fine and hope it goes well for you.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:32 amWith respect, my doc has referred me based on my presenting symptoms, so i'll go with her assesment

Things not going well here, the scientists are being sent out to front it up again.

Plenty of availability in Nelson. Go online to book and have a test almost immediately at the fairground site on Carr Rd.

Change in strategy, after encouraging people to go back to the office they are now telling people to work at home if they can.
Gove announces it in the middle of the morning commute naturally.

Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
This is what happens when governments farm out contracts to their mates without going through a proper tender process to see which companies are actually best equipped to do the job.
Same with the contact tracing app, went to Cumming's mate.
Same with Dido Harding, absolutely no qualifications to be given the job she has but her husband is mates with the Tories.
Corrupt, the lot of them and now we, and businesses, are paying the price having our liberty restricted again,

Anyone checked the latest updates for their smartphones? My iPhone has the exposure notifications installed, but our government (in their wisdom) chose to spunk billions for mates instead of actually using what’s already available.Granny WeatherWax wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 8:27 amThis is what happens when governments farm out contracts to their mates without going through a proper tender process to see which companies are actually best equipped to do the job.

I've been to the Dentists a few times recently...I'm assuming I'm fine if they're happy to admit me on taking my temperature... I'm sure someone will enlighten me.

Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
If getting a test helps to get you back into society but got to remember that if it looks like a duck quacks like a duck and flies like a duck-it probably is a duck. Loss of smell, chronic cough and fever whilst feeling ill and testing negative means you have just got a false negative result. act on your symptoms not on a negative test.

I have just, unfortunately, had first hand experience of the NHS Test and Trace service and it worked slickly....top marks from CD!
Re: Covid testing - What is the wait there?
Interesting update on the "moonshot" testing. According to Dido Harding people will be expected to pay for it if they don't have symptoms.
Could see this quickly degenerating into stratification of the haves and and have nots if things aren't managed carefully. For instance you need a negative test to go and watch football, go to the pub, etc but you have to pay for it.

Will just make some people even less bothered about having a test if they have symptoms.aggi wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:37 amInteresting update on the "moonshot" testing. According to Dido Harding people will be expected to pay for it if they don't have symptoms.

Regarding the 'Moonshot' testing, how often are people expected to get tested? Curious.....
