Excellent news. Let's hope he's up for the full 90 v. Newcastle.

Good hour for Ash and a couple of goals to boot, he' won't be rushed back though, he been out for a long time, and the last thing we need is him breaking down again.

I can see him making the bench for Newcastle, and then it's the international break, so he should have a chance of featuring at West Brom, the more players available the better as far as Sean's concerned.

I think that's the plan provided he's come through OK today

If he gets the full 90 against Newcastle u23s on Friday then I'd think Dyche will be pencilling him in for the West Brom game.

Good to see him back. One of our favourite, if not the favourite player over recent seasons.

This morning I unfairly criticised JBG, but more significantly Brady for their injury records. It was pure frustration- both had had further bad injuries this week following last season which hardly saw them start.

Barnes scoring is great news-he would be one of the first I would pick if I was in the trenches to support me.Knowing him he could bounce back with something to prove

" Trialist " substituted after 27 minutes ? This means either .....

a) Injured ....
b) Out of his depth, not for us ....
c) His contract is waiting for signature in Sean's office ...

Let's hope it's the latter ... :D

He’s surely our 4th choice striker now though ? though possibly in front of Vydra? Great to gave him back in the mix though .

It was never going to be number 3 - if he was that close to winning a deal he wouldn't be playing in an u23 game.

The answer is 1 - he took a knock.

Imagine being one of the Sunderland kids travelling to play in a nice no drama Under 23s game and getting there and finding out you're up against Ashley Barnes 🤣🤣....character building for the young Mackems!
