Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
Lets face it, all our opponents are aware of how totally one footed Dwight is and that if they block that channel between touchline and defender then he inevitable turns 180 ° and plays the ball backwrads.
Posession is maintainef but any 'go forward' is lost.
I see no signs of Dwight coming up with a Plan B.
I can only imagine we will only see Dwight cause defences problems again if he moves inside or plays on the right.
Prove me wrong Dwight.
We all want to love you.

He’s not been the same with the cast on his wrist. He’s still been better than the OP is suggesting.

Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
What was it James Tarkowski said about him? "We know he's all left foot but we still can't see him."
What I see is a young lad who, while having some quiet and disappointing games, as he did at Leicester, is an absolutely outstanding talent.
I bet Brian Miller, Alex Elder and Gordon Harris would have a laugh about suggesting he has limitations because of him being all left foot.

The same Mcneil that had a brilliant breakthrough season last season ?
We have played 1 game. Away at Leicester. With a depleted team.

He's left footed and therefore a target for the numbnuts element of our fanbase.
I think its often referred to as suffering from StephanJordanism

Is Mcneil the new Hendrick on here? How fans can criticise the main source of our attacking threat is mind blowing to me.

As for being a one trick pony, that’s not a bad thing. Arjen Robben was one of the most one footed players I have ever seen and still nobody could stop him.
Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
Breakthrough was the season before. Can't say I have seen much from him since early in the year to suggest he is a top top talent - merely a good one operating at a reasonable level in the Premier League.ClaretAndBlue94 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 10:53 amThe same Mcneil that had a brilliant breakthrough season last season ?

Maradona was totally one footed as well as Robben

Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
It's sad to say but I think Dwight needs a move to progress his career.
With the right hand side of our team being so poor (when JBG is out) and the central midfield never dominating games. It's quite easy to mark him out of games and most teams double up on him.
Another thing to think about is the emergence of so many good right backs recently, compare that to England not selecting a left back?

A fan and I like McNeil. Nothing wrong with pointing out that his form in 2020 hasn't been so good. For the all the fuss and fanfare Burnley fans (mainy) make about Dwight - top top talents dominate games. Not always - but sometimes. It is not clear for me that Dwight has the skill set for that but I do see him having a good career at the top level.expoultryboy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:03 amPapa : are you really a claret ? Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
I think he has been under instruction from SD to play deeper, track back, and not 'lose possession. It coincided with us not losing many games. His stamina has grown and he is better at shielding the ball-this at the expense of him tugging the touch line and generally getting the better of the fullback

An outstanding talent, and the most exciting youngster at the Turf since the days of James and Thomas....both of whom had their off days as youngsters.
Some of the dim goons posting on here need to get a grip...really.
This young lad is something very special.

Foden plays totally with his left foot. McNeil is only 20 and has had to carry the bulk of our attacking threat since he came into the side. Give the kid abreak.

Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
Diminishing effectiveness as you put it because every opposition team knows he’s literally the only creative threat we have aside from the Westwood set-piece. When they plan to play Burnley, they plan for him.
This has been a problem for some time but we’ve failed to fix it.

Have you never tried to make your team more effective ?

Give the lad a break. He’s young, inexperienced and learning his way in the game but is still a class act.

He is only 20 years old. If you remember Sean warned everybody that his form could be up and down. I'm not saying he is a world beater i just think he's the best YOUNG player we have had in a while.

I also agree he's not a 50m player, but respect the opinions of those that do. He's certainly a good premier league midfielder and the best we have, we will struggle to replace him when he does eventually move on

There is a difference between rating him in a single game, and writing him off as a "One Trick Pony". It's surely not that hard to understand why you've received some of the comments you have?SaigonClaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:10 amI see a number of posters gave Dwight a 4 in the Players Ratngs

I wonder if Man United forums had threads when a young David Beckham went through quiet spells, bemoaning his one footedness?
I suspect in time Dwight will play in central midfield, and at 20 years old, and with 61 games under his belt, is still learning the game. Patience is a virtue, and let's see where he ends up.

The OP thinks McNeil is a one trick pony based on performances since the lockdown but doesn't remember him being the best player on the field playing central midfield at Palace. Makes you think I guess

Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
Can't believe some of the comments I've read on here regarding the best prospect we've produced since goodness knows when. Dwight might not have blistering pace and he is more heavily marked now his reputation is rising. Something he is going to have to address. I know i'll get shot down, but for me I'd play DMc either in a roaming midfield role along the lines that Grealish does or in the No10 position. I think thats the least his talent deserves.
Re: Dwight ... one trick Pony ?
When Dwight runs into the corner and plays the ball back to Taylor that creates the opportunity for him to ping in some great crosses. Rather than take on two defenders passing it back to an unmarked Taylor is surely a better option? That's exactly what happened for the first goal against Leicester.
He also put in a great ball for Dunne's goal so he had a "hand" in both goals.
I was more concerned about Dwight's lack of urgency in tracking back. It certainly wasn't to banks of 4 defending because Dwight was awol time and again.
He was just jogging back with Castagne totally unmarked 5-10 yards ahead of him, if he'd sprinted he could have stopped the pass to Barnes but he made no effort to get back even though it was clear that he was in acres of space and Taylor was tracking Vardy. He was the man supposed to pick up Praet for the 4th too but I think he was too late getting back, he looked like he didn't know if he should pick up Praet or Castagne but I think he late arrival gave Praet time to set himself for the shot.
As with Dunne, we need to give these young players time to develop. There were positives for both players but ultimately we conceded 4 and lost.
