Gaming PC vs New Xbox

Post by cl40 » Tue Sep 22, 2020 2:19 pm

I left this world behind a long time ago so I'm looking for some advice. My son is pestering to buy a gaming PC which from a quick search will cost around £800!! I can't understand why he couldn't just get the new Xbox when it's released for half the price, he keeps prattling on about FPS and upgradable etc.

Any advice would be appreciated :D

A console stays at the power that it is built at, graphically, processor wise and RAM wise. A PC can be upgraded. It's definitely the better option though not as cost effective.

It depends what he wants to play. PC's can be built relatively easily if you get a barebones/motherboard bundle and know how to plug in the components. It's not OVERLY difficult but can be off putting, but certainly takes the price down from a pre-built one.

I've nephews who have used both, and one of my mates has a PC gaming computer which his son uses.

Consoles are easier to use for kids, but gaming PCs can do more.

So I guess it depends on how told your son is. If he's a young child, a console could be the best option. If he's a teenager - gaming PC.

when he's earning his own money he can spend it on what he wants...

that's the advice from me ;)

I do recommend this chair though :D

Thing is it's pointless spending 800 on a gaming setup when at that price point the new gen consoles will probably be more powerful.
I'm going to get a ps5 and build a gaming pc next year.
Do you already have a monitor, keyboard mouse etc because that's more cost.

Right now one of the next gen consoles. But in a year or two PC's will overtake them as usual.

You can build a more powerful pc now for around 2k but in one or two years you can probably better console performance at around 800 or so.

Games are mostly made for consoles first and ported to pc later.

So if you are playing all the AAA games consoles will be best value.
