Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Are there any permanent lifestyle changes you wil make on the back of Covid for better or worse ?
Not been to a pub since March - will go back once virus has calmed down
Not sat in a restaurant or cafe since March - not missing it that much and think I will go a lot less in future
Had 4 takeout coffees since March - used to have this in a week but now prefer my own ( think taste buds have changed)and can’t see me changing this.
Haven’t bought any junk food from a service station since March and can’t see this changing.
Eating a better balanced diet, drinking less and doing more walking which I will maintain.
Driving less / using less fuel which I think I will maintain.
Spending more time with kids which I will maintain
Doing far more decorating including doing up a house for sale. Think I am less likely to put these type of jobs off.
Embracing technology more.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Good post. Yeah, similar here, there's loads of good come from 'lockdown'.
We walk much more, much further and from our front door instead of driving somewhere. The kids come too, it's great.
Hardly drink at all now, it was mostly football related but have totally got out of the habit.
Tend to go out for coffee / breakfast / brunch rather than a big evening meal.
The garden is looking amazing so will try and stay on top of that.
Hard to be certain we'll stick with this sort of stuff once things are 'normal' again but I hope to.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
for me running and working from home are the ones that will stick.
Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Working from home. Used to have to commute into Manchester and pay Northern Rail 2k a year for the privilege. I now get an extra hour in bed, am more productive and get to eat with my family in the evening. I've been into the office once since March.

Working from home, or relocating very close to home, to save driving to an office. This also creates more time to prepare better meals.
Not used second car since March, so one car will be going.
Continue to have meetings mostly online, saving more travel time.
Try and maintain daily walks of over 20mins (I used to try and do 20mins a day before).
Continue to run Church activities online.
Food shopping online, I hated food shopping in the first place.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
TBH....have eaten out in 3 wetherspoons and one brewdog pub around the Country all been good experiences.went to the Boathouse Bar in saltaire on a sunny this monday... really well run. So I'm doing pretty much the opposite to you in moderation. The Main thing I try to avoid at all costs......mainstream TV with all the politically correct namby/pamby chat adverts etc. I adhere to the social distancing I'm happy with that also.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 10:02 amAre there any permanent lifestyle changes you wil make on the back of Covid for better or worse ?

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
To be picky, if you're going back to the pub once the virus calms down, that isn't a lifestyle change, as you'll be going back to what you did.
I know someone who's currently recovering from Covid, had to go into hospital and was in a bad way.
One thing he said he's learned is that the majority of people should be working from home instead of going into an office. I think we'll see a permanent lifestyle change in so many people permanently working from home, even after the vaccine(s) come out.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Drinking has been cutdown to savouring a couple of hoppy beer cans at the weekend and sharing a decent bottle of red maybe once a week. We haven't been in a pub since the beginning of March.
Really miss going to see bands at the Trades Club and the small venues in Manchester or the Bru in Leeds.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
Not much has changed. In fact apart from home deliveries (why didn't we do it sooner?) nothing has changed from before Covid. Only ever got a visit off family twice a year and once or twice a year from work colleagues dropping stuff off. We tried to discourage that before lockdown. Got a good reason now. Not visited anyone in 3 years. Must be over a year since I went to the pub. We've not been to a cinema, cafe, takeaway or restaurant in eight years. We're boring but content. Post Covid is almost the same as pre Covid.

Not much changed for me, apart from no Cinema for a few months, unable to go for Sunday breakfast at my local all you can eat place and no one to 'play' with in the evenings.
Everything is back to normal pretty much for me.

I've enjoyed the extra exercise, but the rest of it you can keep. It's demonstrated that we are now a country of divided easily manipulated sheeple. The tories (foot soldiers of the establishment) have achieved their aim.

I have a beer at home every night (whether I want it or not) but I've not been to a pub. I've not been to a cafe or restaurant. I realise how little I've missed these. Wouldn't change back now.
Also i've not been in a high street shop. Haven't had to touch a relative stranger..or be touched.
Actually I'm loving it

I think you're probably right. And unfortunately for UK employment prospects, that home will be in India.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 11:22 amTo be picky, if you're going back to the pub once the virus calms down, that isn't a lifestyle change, as you'll be going back to what you did.

Why would a company take on a young UK worker who needs training when they can get a qualified overseas worker who knows the job? Especially as training a youngster will be much more difficult when they have little face to face interaction with other staff.
As for me, I have no positives to take from this lockdown.

I can't think of any positives either, I saved a bit of money over the lockdown, that's virtually it. Really dreading the winter, basically going to work then coming home with nothing to look forward to is going to be grim.

Didn't go to a pub much before lockdown, as have three school age kids...going a bit less now
Not been to a restaurant or cafe since March - not missing it that much and think I will go a lot less in future
Haven’t bought any junk food since March and can’t see this changing.
We are making our own pizzas from scratch every Tuesday, which is great fun for both parents and kids.
Eating a better balanced diet, drinking less beer at weekends and doing more walking/jogging.
Driving less / using less fuel which I think I will maintain.
Spending more time with kids which I hope to maintain.
Done a bit more stuff around the house, but not sure how this will progress now I am back at work "as normal".
Am going for refereeing promotion, so am paying a bit less attention to Burnley, and more to my own and my kids' football.
I've started considering my career (been an MFL [French, Spanish, German] teacher for 22 years)...ideas welcome!
Reading books was great during lockdown, has dropped off a bit since coming back from holiday.
I think there are loads of problems with COVID, obviously, but there are certainly opportunities we could/should all embrace as much as possible.

Re: Covid lifestyle changes you will keep
I'm not a fan of winter...but getting the house cosy and warm curtains drawn. a couple of lamps music playing quietly ..reading or watching some of those adventurers climbing mountains etc.creates a good space to be. Compulsory Cups of coffee and chocolate biscuits ."You Time" is very important.
