ALK Capital or Farnell/Elkashashy takeover

Has Garlick cashed his chips in or was their simply no other way?

Re: ALK Capital...
There was a news item on Newsnight last night saying how quickly and easily ‘fake news’ becomes reality as digital
platforms all paraphrase each other. It happened with a story about Woolworths relaunching on Monday.
Perhaps be a good thing if this goes the same way.

Re: ALK Capital...
Really uneasy about selling the club to people like this. What happens if/when we go down? Will they honestly still be interested without the Premier league money rolling in?

Re: ALK Capital...
I'm a bit surprised at the certainty in the Mirror article over things being signed etc etc. Especially from John Cross as well...he always seemed alright on Sunday Supplement (but what do I know?). It still might just be them using the media to get their name out there rather than anything substantial. Like others have said, selling to these characters doesn't really fit with the way they have run the club thus far.
Wouldn't be the first or last time things have been made up in a newspaper! The Athletic's version of events feels more believable i.e. ALK struggling to raise the money and these putting their name out there in a similar way ALK did.......but no further advanced than that. Possibly wishful thinking!

Re: ALK Capital...
Seems like bad news, that list of clubs and characters is about as worrying as it gets.
The American interest seemed a bit odd, but much safer than this.

Seems to me that the majority of posters on this forum want Garlick out, that's always going to come with a risk. The grass isn't always greener, let's hope it is if this comes to pass.

But, definitely don't want.....

Let’s be honest this was always going to happen. The only people that can afford prem clubs these days are these types of people.
Looks like the majority of fans are getting there wish. To see the back of our current chairmen. Let’s hope it’s worth the risk

Re: ALK Capital...
With ALK I’m not sure funds are in place ... yet. We hear of many deals that fall through because of this along with false promises. If funds are in place with the alternative deal it’s a positive I suppose. Not sure about a PE firm. Private Equity firms invest to make money and then sell off. Many businesses have been ruined by Private Equity firms once they have made their bit.

Yeah I know what you mean actually. I used to like watching it but eventually I realised their interest was so narrow. It's all the more painful/visible when we're in the top flight but unless you're in the top 6, to them, we don't exist.....unless you're a basket case club. I switched off when they started talking about Rooney for the 464th week in a row.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 4:59 pmHow we see people differently - John Cross was the one who always wanted me to switch off. I think what I meant to say was I thought, probably naively, he'd have a little more credence as he did seem respected by the other hacks on the show. Like it's not just some random account on Twitter saying this. The article is basically saying the deal is done.
I just don't think this is true. Might be more hope than reality though!

Re: ALK Capital...
He'd better bloody not stay on as chairman if he's selling to this guy. Just take your money Mike and keep your head down for a while. Get one of the other board members to stay on and keep the ship afloat.
Re: ALK Capital...
I can only hope that this is some sort of ploy to force Chase’s hand. Seems unlikely though.

But are the new owners keen to let him stay on? How much say will MG have? Can the rift between him and SD be mended if there are more funds to invest in the team or is the issue Mike Rigg?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 5:10 pmIt's in the report that's broken the news. Don’t do it Mike. I’m afraid the Egyptian/ Dubai entrepreneur is just that an entrepreneur. It doesn’t mean he has any money to spend on the club.compared to the Venkata for instance he is a nobody and certainly not millions to pump into the club for development.
This really is turning into one of those years/ seasons we will want to forget.

Re: ALK Capital...
No way in the memory of man would Mr Garlick sell the club to any questionable buyer. I have complete faith in the chairman to do the right thing. No question.
Re: ALK Capital...
If that is true, how does it tally with the thought that there's not much the other board members can do if Garlick decides to sell?
If it is for all shares, then the sale to these guys would need to sanctioned by all board members. Would they really do that? I certainly hope not.

Re: ALK Capital...
Feel sick.
ALK - seem to have no money/backer.
Egyptian/Farnell - not telling me that a guy who owns 7 restaurants in Dubai has £200m to buy a PL club.
He did however hold a role with the Dubai government so is it possibly a front for Dubai government investment? Describes himself as “strategic PE investor”.
Pretty annoying that of all the possible groups interested in investing across the world, we get two like this.

Re: ALK Capital...
Key bits from mirror article..
Millionaire businessman El Kashashy made his money in food and the talks to buy Burnley have been going on for more than a year with the club up for sale for some time.
The new owners insist there will be no huge wholesale changes at the club, although fans will be keen for them to spend and strengthen the squad.
But Dyche is believed to be central to their long term plans, they have the utmost respect for him and want him to stay.

Re: ALK Capital...
I don't know how it works but if one shareholder has over half of the shares and he sells them to someone then that person then has over 50% and is in a very strong position without having to negotiate with anyone else.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 5:23 pmIf that is true, how does it tally with the thought that there's not much the other board members can do if Garlick decides to sell?

Just got to hope that the Egyptian is backed by some very rich Middle Eastern oil money!
Re: ALK Capital...
Me neither - I don't have a clue how any of this works. Just guessing and hoping the other board members, Barry Kilby especially, aren't going to have their careful safeguarding of the club thrown away without a say in the matter.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 5:26 pmI don't know how it works but if one shareholder has over half of the shares and he sells them to someone then that person then has over 50% and is in a very strong position without having to negotiate with anyone else.

Hi All,
I feel compelled to sign up and post on here after hearing this news. Also partly down to the fact you were all cracking down at the valley that year you got promoted to the Prem.
You must, and I cannot stress this enough, do everything you can to ensure this takeover does not happen. Chris Farnell is the same man involved in Bury (google it), Chris Farnell is the same man that compelled Charlton fans to travel to Manchester and storm his offices just months ago (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/char ... -dkcp89bvm).
We fought through the courts to get them out over the summer and we had a lucky escape with our new owner coming in.
Charlton fans will help you with all that we know, i'm sure our fans groups will be communicating with yours as we speak. But please head this warning.
