Re: ALK Capital...
Same here!
I'd be excited and worried at the same time

It seems like we will only have a long term future in the PL if we get some serious investment (Wolves just paid 37 Million for a defender !!).
If investment goes wrong, it could well put us in the same mess as Rovers. I'm so proud of what we have achieved by winning football matches (what football should be about) and not buying success (just about every other club in the PL). I just don't think it can continue with the amount of cash splashed around.

In what way, by potentially not operating on a shoestring? I can understand that, it’s not exactly the Burnley way to be able to spend outside of a very limited budget.
I suppose this is where we have to trust that Garlick has ensured that the best interests of the club are paramount.

Investment companies normally want a return on their investment, how do we spend much more, pay much more in wages and still have people take money out. Our turnover in this division isn't going to go up much from what it currently is.

Re: ALK Capital...
agree with this 100%. I think historically they've done a good job, the status of being in the PL is something that has outgrown them - so do we want to strive to stay at the top level or not ? No guarantees either way, but personally I'd prefer us to try !!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 4:07 pmTwo ways to look at it but surely you have concerns with the way it is currently

Re: ALK Capital...
No not really. I accept the limitations of our finances but to me that’s a big part of our achievement. I’m comfortable enough that the current chairman is managing things well enough for us not to go bust even if that ultimately means we’re relegated, but relegation isn’t the end of the world. If it’s absolutely necessary to keep us afloat then fine, but if all it means is that we’ll spend a whole lot of money to finish mid-table (and I can’t see the level of investment to take us further than that being available) then I prefer where we are.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 4:07 pmTwo ways to look at it but surely you have concerns with the way it is currently
Another worry is that these are money men without really a care for the club, that scares me a bit to be honest.

I don’t agree. I’ve been going on the Turf for 45 years now and it still feels like pretty much the same club now as it did when I started.
Re: ALK Capital...
Or you could look at Man City or Wolves to see that big investments can improve the chances of success.

Re: ALK Capital...
fair comment. If it's investment to help secure a larger fan base (American and Asian markets) and to assist our management team with the ongoing development of our playing staff then that's all good. I'd go as far to say improving the "customer experience" at Turf Moor too - that would be a good place to invest (not just rebuild stands etc, but improve everything that isn't the team - a bit of American customer service wouldn't go amiss.
I do suspect though that it would purely be a financial investment which will require a return on investment... I'd temper the excitement if it's a Venky's type deal though, wouldn't you?

Guessing at more like. If he'd have been in the know it would have contained at least some of the information that is in the article, it's been public knowledge for a long time that Garlick wants to move the club on and various people were sniffing around. Finally something from someone who does appear to know and backs it up with a little info.

Re: ALK Capital...
In Man City's case they are owned by an entire country and can spend billions, not millions if need be.
In the case of Wolves they have an agent who is linked to every decent Portuguese player

Typical. People have been demanding investmestment for ages, and now it looks like they might get it, they still complain.
Like the transfer window, why not wait and see what it is before getting upset?

I refer people to my post on the Sheff Utd match thread. It's been leaked somewhere along the line but this is what I was referring to regards Americans in positive talks with local council and county council.

Everyone will be unsure until there is more detail and something concrete. Best just wait for things to be made clear before commenting?

That's why iam not getting excited, either way, until I know the details. We certainly need investment, so it's a balancing act to get it right.Zlatan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 4:16 pmfair comment. Not really, it’s the type of company that is potentially taking over that gives me the worries and that’s out in the open so worthy of comment. If this was someone how had an interest in football and specifically Burnley Football Club rather than just making money then I’d be happier.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 23, 2020 4:28 pmTry reading again, you're not the only one that doesn't like it.

Re: ALK Capital...
The blokes who tried to buy Sheff Utd last year aren’t they?
I don’t like that we’re just the next club in line for them to try and buy. As mentioned above, investment firms want returns on their investment and I’d rather us finish 15th than 10th if it means we don’t go down this route.
I’d go as far as accepting relegation and having the battle of coming back up than being some rich mans play thing.

I for one would love to see what Dyche could do with a reasonable (not obscene) budget.

We’re at least number 2 on their list - with a few other clubs having an American firm who tries to buy them .... we could be 3/4/5th even.
Re: ALK Capital...
From what I've heard they want to invest in the local and wider (NW) region. Hence the council meetings.

Re: ALK Capital...
does anyone know why they failed in their pursuit of Sheff Utd ?
Re: ALK Capital...
As others have pointed out, a company like this would be getting involved to try and make money out of the club. They certainly wouldn't care too much about the long term future of Burnley FC, which worries me a bit.

Re: ALK Capital...
Being owned by a venture capital firm is very different to something like Man City.
They're generally in it to make money (and quite a lot of it) in a relatively short time period.
It may be that the football club isn't the whole of the picture and the money making will happen elsewhere with the club being an "in" but it isn't going to be the waterfalls of cash that some are expecting.
