This is explicitly against the rules. Hence all the issues with the Tevez and Mascherano signings
Very much against rules if they are even thinking of going down this route.

Is it? I know the ownership of the player has to be with the club and I don't think this would change this.

As I say, I'm no expert but I have related it to being something similar as an ETF where you can invest in an asset without owning it.

Maybe I have misunderstood the way it works but I don't think anyone would have an actual say over what the player does, their contractual situation and/or have influence on their career.

Once there is a circulating supply there is no more to be minted. If they did a million, that's all there will ever be.
How is that enforced? If BFC or any other organisation makes money out of issuing a cryptotoken, who is enforcing that they will never again issue something similar?

I genuinely don't know, but it will work along the same principles of the other cryptos out there, where the circulating supply is set at whatever the original amount minted was.

Also, everything that happens on the block chain is in the public domain so you can see everything that happens.

The whole thing started with West Ham but was fought off by the supporters groups. It's spreading across clubs though although I can't say it's all the same because I really don't understand it.

What is it the supporters groups don't like about it.

It's all beyond me but at West Ham it was all about buying tokens, the more you bought the more connection with the club. There are some supporter reps at clubs who are understanding of it, I've asked if someone could take a look at what's been linked on here today.

Yes, but if they issue one million claret A tokens, who is going to stop them issuing claret B tokens with the same (possibly negligible) rewards? When a plc issues new shares, the value of the old shares is diluted but the company becomes worth more. When a club issues new crypto tokens, because they don't share in the owenership of club assets, their value will drop far more than the value of the club increases.

First response I've had from another supporter rep is:

"A very risky way of investing your money unless you really know what you are doing, in which case you probably wouldn’t need this."

Tantamount to making a donation to the club.

An investment strictly for the terminally optimistic.

It could be for something similar but it also could have wider use/application for the club so I am not convinced at this stage that its a bad thing.

As with wider investments - only invest if you understand and are prepared to take the risk of the investment. As nobody really understands it, it would appear extremely high risk to me. It would need to have FCA regulation in this country to make it even worth considering.

I think part of the beauty of it from the club's point of view, is that if they sell say 10 million tokens at £10 each they get £1m.

The beauty of it from an investor's point of view is a lot harder to spot.
Hi dsr, this bit I'm quoting (and underlined above) "sell say 10 million tokens at £10 each they get £1m" has been on the mb for more than 4 hours, but no one seems to have noticed that your calculation is wrong by £99m. (And, it's not as if no one else has been looking at this thread in that time. Lot's have posted after you posted).

10 million tokens at £10 each will raise £100 million. We should be asking what has happened to the £99 million that is missing from dsr's calc.

Be careful, guys. If you can't spot these little calculation errors you might also be at risk of losing your shirt on any investment.

Are these physical tokens like casino chips and if so will they be collectable - ones with a picture of Dyche on will be more sought after than those with Laws or Coyle??

I've made no attempt to read or get my head around the INX link. However, I'm guessing that ALK are proposing selling some form of collateralised debt obligation (CDO in the parlance). Payoff on the CDO could be linked to Burnley remaining in the Premier League, to pick the major source of the club's revenue. I'm unsure whether it could be linked to the buying and selling of named players, not least because all contracts eventually come to an end and the player can move (or retire) for free. Maybe it could be linked to aggregate net transfer fees of a pool of players, but I'm unsure how risks on player transfers could be separated from risks of remaining in the Premier League...

I don't think this opportunity is one for my pension....

Owners with money can also fail at the top table though.

Bournemouth
Fulham
Blackburn
Bolton
Sunderland
WBA
Hull
Boro
West Ham
Southampton
Newcastle

I know you're desperate for Burnley to get relegated so you can sit there and claim you were right all along, but very few clubs have the financial staying power to become a permanent fixture in the PL.

We don’t need to be relegated to prove anything.

I’m sure the financial figures over the next few years will prove it

There seems to be a growing hostility toward the new ownership on here (even Tony)...did i miss something?

I think we would certainly be going down with Garlick in charge, at least there's hope with ALK.
They seem willing to try new things.....maybe that's the problem? UTC.

Our win ratio under ALK is worse than it was under Mike Garlick's chairmanship.

You want us relegated so you can claim you were right.
History shows that owners with money don't prevent relegation or guarantee promotion, so it blows your claim right out of the water.

Our previous owners didn't have deep pockets, because they ran the club within its means and did a pretty good job of it.

You haven't waited for the financial figures before coming to the conclusion that the new owners have no money.

You just want to be right and if that includes the club being relegated then so be it for you.

Obviously I don’t want to be relegated. I just wish we didn’t have the owners we do because it is inevitable we will be relegated under there tenureship. My concern is where do we end up with these lot, league 1? No stadium? No training ground?

Who knows? Only time will tell

Relegation is a given for a small club in the EPL, it's just a matter of when really.

True but in my opinion we have lost our safety net that we had with the previous owners. Like I said who knows where we will end up under the new owners.

It certainly can’t be good having one of the lead football financial journalists openly mocking them on number of occasions

We would've been relegated under the previous owners, it was inevitable.

If we had, and Dyche had gone, do you think they would've sold the training ground at some point?

Wasn't it Kilby who sold the ground to a Longside Holdings?
A company he created, so he could generate some revenue for the club?
I might have some of the details wrong, but I know it's happened once already in recent years.

Oh I agree we would have been relegated, but financially we would have been in a completely different situation.

You're taking a guess and claiming it as fact.

I haven’t said it’s a fact? It’s my opinion

You've stated as fact the owners have no money despite having nothing to support those claims.

You've stated we would've been better off under the old owners financially if we get relegated.

For goodness sake. Lighten up. Glass quarter empty isn't a good place to be.
Stop doom mongering and hoping it to be correct

Our win ratio under ALK is worse than it was under Mike Garlick's chairmanship.
We've got Maxwell Cornet! :D
I think the last player we bought under Garlick was Dale Stephens
I'll take this direction over that!

I don’t know whether it’s just how it comes across in writing.

I’m genuinely not in a dark place at all. This is all just forward thinking/guess work, discussing the new owners.

I fully appreciate DJs view, things could work out well.

I’m just concerned that people more in the know are openly mocking our owners.

So you are happy losing games with what you see as better players?

Fair enough, I suppose. ;)

But it's all the time. Every time . Its draining. And I'd not believe everything you read on twitter

There seems to be a growing hostility toward the new ownership on here (even Tony)...did i miss something?

I think we would certainly be going down with Garlick in charge, at least there's hope with ALK.
They seem willing to try new things.....maybe that's the problem? UTC.
Even Tony?
