Pub Curfew - Kick Off Times Moved Forward
Football fans can’t attend matches outdoors, even in small numbers. But Premier League evening kick off times will change from 8.15pm to 8pm to ensure games finish by 10pm to allow viewers to watch in pubs. This policy is like looking at a magic eye picture.
The worst bit about this KO time change for me is that they seemed to have no issues shoving numerous weeknight kick offs back 15 minutes to appease the TV audience, but it was always deemed impossible to do the same for away fans trying to catch the last train back.

This 10 pm closing is causing chaos as drinkers just carry on drinking outside pubs

10pm closing and everyone piling into the streets together and getting on public transport at the same time.

I'm not sure why they decided on 10pm.

They could have let pubs stay open but just keep doubling the tax on booze sold after ten. Double it every hour and see how long folk want to keep supping then.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 4:02 pm10pm closing and everyone piling into the streets together and getting on public transport at the same time.

8PM kick-offs are fine for league games, what about the domestic and European cup competitions, if they kick-off at 8, and then go into ET or even penalties, there's no way they'll be completed by 10.
I genuinely don't understand an arbitrary 10PM cut-off, it won't make much difference to most people's drinking habits, and I also fail to see how this impacts on any potential covid spread.
As ever with this government this is a fudge, if they were serious about combatting the virus they'd close the pub sector down for a lengthy period, and suitably compensate any licensed traders, this halfway house doesn't solve either the virus, or helps the entertainment industry, who'd went to go to a pub right anyway, there's no live music, or other live entertainment on offer, so you might as well stay at home, which is what many will choose to do, and that in itself creates problems, due to the increase in house parties, where they'll be no social distancing enforced.
What could make a difference is a world beating test and trace system, wasn't that what the PM promised back in June, It's due to the failings of government that these measures have had to be reimposed, and yet the vast majority of the population who've complied with all the restrictions will yet again suffer through no fault of their own.

The thinking behind ii is that people tend to ignore social distancing when they're ****** so it's an attempt to get more people home when they're a bit more compos mentis.
Re: Pub Curfew - Kick Off Times Moved Forward
People are just going to start having big house parties instead when the pubs kick them out. Won't achieve anything apart from damaging the economy even more.

I don't know as time will tell on that one. But I don't envisage these overall restrictions being enough to stop the increase in numbers and expect it's only a matter of time before things will need to be ramped up.

Re: Pub Curfew - Kick Off Times Moved Forward
Yes I understand that logic, but if people just go out earlier, or drink faster, then it won't have the desired impact they hope, and as others have commented many people will just pile out of the pubs at 10, and either flood onto public transport in their droves, or have house parties, this doesn't seem to have been thought through, it's one of those announcements that sounds fine in theory, but won't work in practice unfortunately.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 10:45 amThe thinking behind ii is that people tend to ignore social distancing when they're ****** so it's an attempt to get more people home when they're a bit more compos mentis.
I don't know how it's playing out in England or Wales, but the majority of the spread in Scotland has been traced to social gatherings in private houses, or student accommodation, and how you police that heaven knows.
