Is there anything in there anymore?
Wonderful building, more empty space and unused seats than the riverside stand.

Despite cutbacks, digitisation and material transferred to the Records Office at Preston, the reference section is still a great resource..... providing of course that you can gain access.

Re: BUrnley Central Library
Well - when they announced its imminent closure in mid-March, they said that you could take out up to 30 books before it closed and keep them until it reopened.
This I did. So if lots of people did as I did and took 30 books then the answer is probably, not much.

Although I wouldn't feel comfortable going myself just now, it is brilliant news that they can open again.
It's not as good as it was when the old reference library was open in the basement but it is still a fantastic resource.

Can you still borrow CDs and paintings?
Re: BUrnley Central Library
You can still borrow CD's DVDs yes. It is a great educational and social resource for the people of Burnley, the staff are fantastic and they'll get you anything you want through the UK library system. In researching Burnley history, you can't get the resources they have anywhere else. Yes, it was better when the whole building was open, the separate children library upstairs, the reference library downstairs, and the main floor for fiction and non-fiction and computers. That was ten years ago. Now its all on one floor.
The library needs money spending on it to modernise and enhance it. I was looking at it on Saturday morning - a great building but there are weeds growing out of the walls at the front and the roof. The Library service is funded by Lancs County Council and they've faced budget cuts across the board. Branches across Lancashire were closed, but they've brought some of them back recently. I've been going to the library since I was in short pants and to witness the demise of the Libraries many buildings and the service it provides as a whole these past ten years is a crying shame.
But its back this Wednesday folks and long may it continue to serve the Burnley public.

At least three years ago I’d think. Spent hours in there researching stuff for the website and they had some really good, helpful staff in there.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 29, 2020 8:37 amThey closed that? I made did some frantic last minute gcse and a-level revision there back in the day
