Team v City

Post by ecc » Tue Sep 29, 2020 11:20 pm

Eh, I haven't got a clue. If ever we didn't need a match it's this one. Of course they have "massive" injury problems but Guardiola will want us taking apart.

As for us, I wouldn't risk anyone but we have to field a competitive team or risk very serious damage.

Of the injured, Barnsey might perhaps get a runout but ideally for 20/30 mins at the end. Can't see Tarky playing.

Pity we haven't lashed out £62m on a new CB after getting a mauling.

I guess we'll field the strongest possible side available, after all it's not often that we get a chance of reaching the last 8 of a major competition.

Can't see Tarks playing any part, whether he's injured or not, as for City, I thought they might play some of their U21 squad, and they still might, but they had a game in the EFL Trophy away at Scunthorpe tonight which they won 4-0. City have their own problems regarding fielding a side tomorrow, however their 1st XI and even their reserve/youth set up is a million miles better than ours, even if we're improving in that department.

Same as last Saturday. I'm actually quite excited about this one. They'll play a load of youngsters and if we win it will be our best cup run under Dyche.

I hope Dyche gives our youngsters another run out.
Dunne, Thomas and Benson all did well in the last game against Milwall.
He really has got too much choice given we're so short.
Will he risk Wood and Vydra up front?
Barnes coming on for the last 20 mins or so?
Peacock-Farrell in goal too.
Glennon on for McNeil at half-time?
Stevens and Westwood in the wings?
Or possibly Stevens to start?

There are options and you never know we might surprise City.
That would be a big tonic for Saturday.

go back 20 years and this would have been a packed out Turf and a hugely exciting game, show's you how far we've come when it seems most of us aren't fussed one way or the other about it.

Same team as Millwall probably. It's Stephens btw. Not Stevens.

City played an almost unrecognisable XI last week but finished with the likes of Sterling De- Bruyne et al. We’ll field same lot as Millwall I’d imagine . We’ve a fair shout compared to “ normal “ imo

If we had a full squad to choose from I'd fancy us, especially as we only need to get to 90 mins for the 50/50pen shoot out.

Sadly I think theyll just have too much for us

0-2

BPF
Lowton Long Dunne Taylor
Pieters Brownhill Westwood McNeil
Vydra Wood

Barnes and Benson 30 mins each and Glennon for a tiring McNeil with 10 to play.

Whatever side we field, I expect Tarkowski to play no part and Man City5 to be as ever far too strong for us.

Lots of hints that we'll be sending the kids out, then go full strength, Inc Tarkowski, Bardsley, Wood and Barnes.. With instructions to put themselves about a bit.

They just might not like it up em with their current issues.

It's a chance for Dyche to show young lads who might be interested in joining our new improved academy they will get a chance in the first team.

No point bleating on we have no senior players but still refuse to give the youngsters a chance. If they don't get a game now they never will.

This is probably the best chance we'll have had in years to beat City but that's purely down to the quality of the side that they'll put on the field. If we play a strong side and get in their faces then we've a chance of causing an upset.

I would ask "do we have the bodies to play a strong side?" but we don't really have an awful lot of options in reality. It's been strange seeing Sean put his trust in the youngsters this season but I can't see those who haven't yet had a chance playing or Glennon and Thompson playing anything more than a cameo role.

BPF/Pope
Lowton/Bardsley Long/Thomas Dunne Taylor/Pieters
Brownhill/Pieters Brownhill/Benson Westwood/Benson McNeil/Pieters
Vydra/Barnes Wood/Barnes

The pressure is off though, when we saw the draw I think most people's reaction was "Ah well, that's the end of that cup run".

Similar side to Millwall, but think I'd start Barnes if he's fit enough.

Vydra and Barnes up front.

I'm going for something different tonight:

Pope
Jensen, Norris, Mercer, Peacock-Farrell, Richter,
Thomas, Long, Dunne,
Lowton (capt.), Glennon.
Best 5 penalty takers on the bench, everyone behind the ball :D
