I think improving the defence, improves the midfield, as the midfielders will have so much more confidence in what's behind them. It's the same with defenders and keepers. A crap keeper, and the defence won't be as comfortable.

Stuck at work with no stream.
The comment that Dwight didn't see the run and cover suggests he's playing on the right, rather than the left, in order to accommodate Pieters.
Is that the case, or just coincidence?

Re: Tonight's Lineup
I know Dwight isn't primarily a defender, but don't City just know it. Lowts is in trouble every time they come down his wing and an alert McNeil (plus a previous, braver version of Tarks who would go to the ball) could have prevented their goal fairly easily imo.

I think it's quite possible both penalties would have been given with VAR as there appeared to be contact in both cases. They would have been really soft, but the top teams get them week in week out.

Fernandinho has turned the cynical little foul into an art form. He hardly ever gets booked for it either.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:53 pmI agree! Every time an opponent looks like breaking away there's a blatant foul to stop momentum.

Nothing wrong wit BPF I think the confidence in having Tarkwski there has shone through. Don't get this panicky punt forward though. They're playing a high line at times. Get the ball down. I am certain it's psychological. This is winnable. Sidenote: Far better than the last game.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:52 pmI think improving the defence, improves the midfield, as the midfielders will have so much more confidence in what's behind them. Re: Tonight's Lineup
Not bad considering, City don't look like a struggling side, but we're still in the game, mind you if we're to equalise it'll have to be from open play, because this ref is never giving us a pen in a million years.
Plus points.
Barnes and Tarks returning to the fold, this should improve us at both ends of the pitch.
BPF looks up to the task when required.

Re: Tonight's Lineup
Correct. Just watched it back. To level any criticism at Dwight there is very harsh. He was back defending and the through ball was inch perfect, as was the ball in. Talks had stood off Sterling.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:53 pmStuck at work with no stream.

I wasn't referring to BPF, just continuing my point regarding midfield and Tarky coming in, in that it happens with defenders too.BenWickes wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:56 pmNothing wrong wit BPF I think the confidence in having Tarkwski there has shone through. I think JT coming in will automatically help the midfield.

Considering we’re missing multiple 1st team players from JBG Jay Rod Mee etc etc and have our reserve left back on the wing we’re not doing too bad in what is a pretty powerful citeh lineup

Re: Tonight's Lineup
They are the tactical foul experts. Fernandinho pulled Westwood's shirt when we won the ball at the half way line. Deliberate foul under the refs nose and no yellow given. Could have resulted in a good chance.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 7:48 pmMan City are, in my opinion, the biggest cheats in the EPL. Every tackle involves the use of the arm.
But we have bought fouls well. Happy to see us being street wise. The ref for the most part has been completely biased but that's what you expect.
First half replay of Sterling's chance shows Tarkowski got a small touch on the cross which probably meant he put it wide.
Barnes looks rusty as you'd expect. Vydra playing decently. No one is having a bad game for us.
All replays half time on ESPN+ are theirs. Two penalty appeals and no replays of them. Expect nothing less
Their tactics have been pretty good, targeting our right hand side and that's where the goal came from. McNeil naive in defence.
Wood on Vydra off.

Good shout. He's looked good when cutting inside but we're nowhere near him getting crosses in from the byline since we're pushed back all the time.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 8:02 pmCould swap Brownhill for McNeil and let McNeil play in the centre?
Laporte down in pain. Wood won the ball fairly. No sympathy.

Right!
We've lulled them. They think they've won.
Nows the time to unleash our football and stuff the buggers.

Westy at fault there, you can't afford to gift City possession in the midfield, but to gift KDB the ball is asking for trouble.

We certainly do. Part of it is also developing a partnership. Long and a Tarks both used to playing on the right side. Barnes wins another free kick but we can't make anything from it.
