Positives From Tonight
Benson played well when he came on
Barnes got a good run out
Tarky's toe didn't flare up

Re: Positives From Tonight
The real positive was getting minutes into Tarkowski and Barnes while the one negative was getting knocked out albeit by a bloody good team.
Hopefully those two will be in the squad for Saturday and then, hopefully, there will be more back and one or two new players for West Brom after the break.
Hard watch tonight, but always is against City.

Re: Positives From Tonight
My positives:
Barnes constantly got himself into good positions, despite being rusty when shooting.
Benson - composed and more minutes against quality opposition.
McNeil - more like it!
Taylor (my MOM) - just gets better and better.
Bailey PF - excellent in the goals.
Tarky back and getting a full game.
My negative:
The right side looked woefully short and to a large extent, was targeted.
Spitting - a grotesque amount from both sides and the Man City manager. Bad enough at the best of times, but should be nowhere near a football pitch at present!

Fitness as the players put in some miles tonight chasing .
Good to see Ash and Tarks again

Re: Positives From Tonight
Yes BPF in goal was a positive along with the two returning senior pros. One other positive was not travelling up to the Turf and having to watch it in the flesh. Although I would bet there are many of us who would have been desperate to be on the match tonight, however bad it was to watch.

Realistically, we can focus on the bread & butter, for most clubs cup runs are great but often unnecessary distraction resulting in injuries & league form dips.

Benson: I'm not sure we should loan him out again. Looks a bit of a player and probably benefits from training with the senior players.
BPF. He looks a fine goalkeeper, backs his reflexes.

Re: Positives From Tonight
He's our most creative player but he wanted to collect the ball behind our direction of play far too often.
Need him to be pushing forward a lot more often because he can unlock defences when he has forward momentum. Too static in terms of forward momentum today.
Maybe I'm being harsh on him (?) but if I am it's because I rate him so highly. He's a player I love watching in a Burnley shirt.

Re: Positives From Tonight
Biggest positive was that we must be better than we think given how seriously Pep takes us.
That CB pair made them have a stronger line up than against Leicester, even with a kid playing (I don’t count Torres as a kid, he is a full Spain international).
Biggest negative - 8 year old asking me what f***ing means Dyche.....

We looked way off the pace tonight because we're way behind on pace and speed of thought to the top sides.
Taylor was alright. Dwight had his moments and the keeper did well.
But they could have scored 10 without getting out of 2nd gear.

Certainly doesn't need putting on the right wing to accommodate Pieters (or anyone else) on the left.Rowls wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 9:32 pmHe's our most creative player but he wanted to collect the ball behind our direction of play far too often.

Re: Positives From Tonight
Spent the time doing something else.Normally hate missing our matches but couldn’t be bothered with this one. Watched the other 2. It’s normally a non competition against Man City and we were out this round before the ball was kicked. 90 mins fitness has to be a positive for players that have been out too.

Peacock Farrell and Benson We’re my biggest positives. It looks like we have some good young blood coming through.
I think both looked like they can play at this level.
Farrell looked really sharp
Bensons touch and passing was very good (he’s got some very good technical ability) be interesting to see if he gets a few games for us this season

Re: Positives From Tonight
Definitely Tarkowski and Barnes being back and playing good minutes.
As mentioned above, they're always difficult games to watch. Dyche doesn't make it any easier by playing 442 all the time which leaves us wide open. He seems to think that our two forwards can cause them problems they aren't used to......and that part doesn't work either. City are miles better than us but we always play right into their hands.

Rob Palmer is fab. Over the last ten years, mainly heard commentating on the Spanish games on Sky. Used to work for Granada sport so was often at Burnley. He’s very fond of our club. A huge Hull City fan.

Re: Positives From Tonight
Huge and unexpected smile on my face when I saw Tarkowski on the team sheet. Even better when I saw Barnes.
BPF- looks the business. If I’m the chairman at another club and Burnley enquires about the availability of my keeper I should be offering an improved deal.
Benson- loved his confidence, could be special.

Re: Positives From Tonight
Good to hear some positives.
Especially for Benson who I've only seen briefly against Millwall last week
but he looks to have a bit of energy, good passing and doesn't seem fazed.
Certainly keep him in the squad and he might just break through this season.
Sooner than later?

Barnes and Tarky getting a good run out.
Benson impressing again, is he considered a member of the 1st team squad now.
BPF ensuring it wasn't a cricket score.
We at least made the 4th round.

Tarks staying means that the BFC Transfer thread for Summer 2020 can now be wrapped up since we are probably too skint to bring in permanent signings this window.

Re: Positives From Tonight
If that commentator is very fond of our club, Adrian Durham is very fond of Sean Dyche.
It didn't sound like Rob Palmer and he wasn't very knowledgeable about the club/team.
Re: Positives From Tonight
Barnes a good run out
Another good performance from Taylor
2 players back from injury
Benson looking promising again
Only conceding 3 against City, 2 less than usual
Tarks toe getting better
The beep machine not working on Sean Dyche’s commentary
Plus our next opponents Newcastle were sh!t again against Newport, bodes well for Saturday

Re: Positives From Tonight
I didn't spend any money watching it.
Re: Positives From Tonight
We didn't concede more cos we certainly would have done without BPF
Other positives
Hopefully Long will never start another game - would seriously consider Peiters alongside Tarks on Sat after that display
Confirmation that our midfield is powder puff and can't hold on to the ball - I think every goal came from our midfield needlessly losing possession
McNeill cannot play wide right - as can't most left peggers
Barnes should be 4th choice striker
Other positives

Dyche "Sterling, get up? Are fcuking you sure? You spend half your fcuking life on the floor man"
Made me laugh anyway
Oh and BPF looks a fine goalkeeper, have mo worries if ever he needs to step in or replace Pope between the sticks.

Second point, I thought Kevin Long did ok tonight, it’s not easy playing against pace
Fourth point, there are many wingers that play on the so called wrong side(JBG for example)
Fifth point, you’re judging Ashley Barnes on his first game back after 10 months out with injury, a forward whose scored 33 goals in 120 premier league appearances for Burnley, which is a decent return

Re: Positives From Tonight
Positives :
Thought we actually played ok. We knocked it about pretty confidently i thought
Barnes and Tarks got minutes
Taylor excellent again
Keeper played very well.
Negatives :
I really cannot stand City. That foul by Sterling was a direct result of the instructions Guardiola sends out to his team every time they play.....if the opposition takes the ball from you bring them down - and take the booking or in the case of Fernandinho their biggest culprit of it take several bookings and red cards if necessary.
This is a deliberate tactic by Guardiola - he knows that with the size of his squad yellow or even red cards are not as important as conceding possession or goals. He also knows that because City have so much of the ball that it’s only going to happen a few times a game.
Sterling and Guardiola both went over to Lowts at the final whistle to console him as he limped off and will miss the next few weeks at least - they don’t give a sh-it about him. There was no attempt to get the ball and it is under the managers instructions.
Horrible team who have ruined football and broken every financial rule going. They are signing yet another £60m defender today - apparently the Saudis have just sponsored trap 1 in their east stand toilets so it’s all above board and legitimate.
Anyway that’s my negative !!

Barnes and Tarks back......
Peacock Farrel showing we have an excellent back up for Nick.
Benson.... I never saw the game but seems to have showed promise, again. He needs to stay with us around the first team. A loan out below championship level would hold him back, and I think we'd struggle to get him a loan at that level.
Theres a few negatives but churlish to highlight them against City.
As SD I think we'll be fine when we get numbers back, any kind of result at Newcastle and we'll all feel happier.

Re: Positives From Tonight
Just a comment on that. There was a lot of criticism on here back in January when the likes of Benson, Glennon etc. went out on loan to League Two clubs suggesting that it was almost pointless if they weren't going to go to at least a Championship club. Last week, after the Millwall game, Benson said how much he'd benefited from it, how much he'd learned playing regular first team football and how much it had improved him. I'm not suggesting that he should be going back out to a League Two club but we need to balance it now. With us out of the cups, players coming back to fitness and Stephens having signed, he's not likely to get too much first team football. A loan at a Championship club would I think be ideal if that's the case.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:34 pmBenson.... I never saw the game but seems to have showed promise, again. Hasn't he done well though when he's been on the pitch in these cup games? Another real positive.

He is wasted if he isn't playing infront of Taylor.
We need him going past players, and pinging those crosses in. Swapping him for Pieters just weakened us in 2 positions, instead of one. I also think Eric would have helped out a lot more defensively on that side.
Its a lesson we haven't learnt after all the Dyche years, if you lose a player, you replace HIM, you don't shuffle the whole pack to accommodate him. If that means bringing in the LW from the U23s, so be it.
