Simulation by Burnley players?!
Simulation by Burnley players?!
Unheard of!
Year after year, Dyche has tried to call out the cheats who dive or exaggerate. And rightly so in my opinion. You just don’t get Burnley players “simulating” (apart from Barnes!). And Chris Wood is the most honest of the lot when it comes to staying on your feet and getting on with it.
But I’ve noticed 2 or 3 incidents in the last 2 games where our players appear to have fallen over without too much happening to cause it. Even Chris Wood seems to have succumbed.
So, has Dyche given up the lonely crusade to kick the cheating out of football and is advising players to fall over when “entitled” to do so?

2 out of 3 were pens. The Charlie one was difficult to tell from the camera angle.

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
I honestly think we should have had three penalties in these two home games. None of them simulation at all, probably the clearest being the one on McNeil tonight.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:34 pm2 out of 3 were pens. The Charlie one was difficult to tell from the camera angle.

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Simulation was a word used to defend outright cheating, diving despite no contact.
i do, however, agree that our players are going down a bit easier when they feel "contact",
the game has gone.

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
The one on Taylor tonight was a clear penalty. Walker also clearly makes contact with the back of McNeil's leg for the other shout.
On the Wood one the other day, how many penalties have we conceded where people have said afterwards that you can't touch a player's back in the box? Pens against Arsenal and Man U spring to mind. All of a sudden when it's a Burnley player there's 'not enough in it'.

players will instinctively try their luck despite what anyone supposedly tells them to do differently.

I read a comment earlier on social media that I thought was funny...
"We're trying to win a Grand Prix in a Fiat 500 against a Mercedes .. and officials keep letting our tyres down."

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Paul Weller on Radio Blackburn when I was stuck in traffic on the M65 on the way home from work said he didn't even touch McNeil. Which was odd, as then the commentary said Dwight was angry for not getting the pen. Dwight certainly isn't the type of player to go chasing a ref. Not seen it myself so can't comment further.
Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Dyche has always called out players who dive without contact. He often specifically adds that he isn't talking about players who feel contact and go down.Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:28 pmUnheard of!

Referees universally believe that pushing someone hard is not a foul if the player uses his strength to stay on his feet, but pushing someone quite softly is a foul if the player collapses like a pack of cards. Therefore if the powers that be want players to collapse like a pack of cards, so much so that they give big rewards to players that collapse like a pack of cards, then it is no wonder that players choose to collapse like a pack of cards.

Thought similar for years.
The plus side...
eg A win for us against Arsenal via a very dodgy decision would make me so so very happy
One day please.

Barnes is no stranger to going over with the slightest contact.

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
It’s irrelevant saying there is not enough in them when they get given up the other end. Take Bernardo Silva up the other end as an example a few years ago at the Etihad. It remains an absolute joke that they cannot get a level of consistency such that we can see that the bigger teams are not favoured. It stinks tbh.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 6:20 amI’m afraid I agree, yes we’ve seen them given against us time after time but there’s not enough in them for me.

And all would have been given as fouls in any other area of the pitch without any question or argument, which I always feel is a good yardstick.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:37 pmI honestly think we should have had three penalties in these two home games. Not sure about diving. I don't think we'd ever do it. We are slowly building a reputation for time wasting unfortunately though, and it was evident at 0-0

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Totally agree with others that we could have had 2 or 3 pens, wonder if lack of nearly 20k fans screaming "penalty" makes it easy for the refs to go with this "there wasnt enough in it" rubbish!
Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
None were pens but I think the objective this season is if you feel something then go down and I agree as you see it in all other games.

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
I tend to agree. It's a shame we have to join this "cleverness" but I think SD has just had enough and thought "we may as well try the same". There is still a big difference between diving/simulation/cheating and going down if there has been contact. The thing that really annoys me is if a defender went down under such little contact he has to be stronger yet strikers go down when there's a gust of wind and that's part of the game!
We also still have the problem that, even with VAR, we are unlikely to get those decisions. The on field ref, as we always see, don't give us the decision and VAR won't over rule that with the "soft" claims. Compare to when Pogba goes down, penalty is given and then VAR won't over rule as there was contact. We are still being shafted in the big club v small club game.
Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Horrified a strong word, I'd have been disappointed and I wouldn't have been surprised at all if those were given against us as it happens all too frequently.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:44 pmif any of those 3 challenges were given against us I would be horrified

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
The same with goal keepers, they're allowed to literally knock everyone out of the way with their arms, elbows and fists but the slightest contact with them and its a foul. Drives me madGoodclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 9:00 amThe thing that really annoys me is if a defender went down under such little contact he has to be stronger yet strikers go down when there's a gust of wind and that's part of the game!

Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
I think Paul needs to take another look. I saw it at the time watching the stream and was sure it was a pen. I've seen it last night on the television highlights and for anyone to suggest there was no contact is baffling. Even Clinton Morrison said it was a pen although he didn't think there was enough in the other one.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:02 amPaul Weller on Radio Blackburn when I was stuck in traffic on the M65 on the way home from work said he didn't even touch McNeil. Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
The players do simulate but no more than anybody else, all the teams simulate to a certain degree & certain players are well renown for it, if every team was subject to expulsion for it it'd be a empty lonely league.
Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
If you think back to our first season in the PL under Dyche we were way too soft. We hadn't adapted to the dark arts and suffered some harsh lessons and results. Even the commentators and pundits were saying 'if he'd gone down then he'd have got a penalty/free-kick' on numerous occasions. We are nowhere near as bad as the masters of it. the Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal's, man City's of this world who have it down to an artform. We have certainly learned to get that little advantage by taking advantage of a situation. Just borderline legal. I've not seen us adopt the dark arts used by the clubs mentioned but we definitely are wise to it. Tarks and Barnes are great examples of our players who know how to use it against the opposition.
Re: Simulation by Burnley players?!
Our time wasting has been bad for a while, particularly away from home. Nick Pope has turned it into an art form.
