Can you name the last five Burnley players who???
Can you name the last five players who have played in our youth team and gone on to make a full league debut (start) in the first team. Must be a start, must be a league game.

Those three are all correct - Chappy being the one furthest back in 2003.

Am I missing something obvious that nobody has mentioned Jimmy Dunne?

MACCA got the last one - Kyle Lafferty
I was looking back last night at the list and didn't realise you'd have to go back to Chappy to get to five.

Those names mentioned are I believe the only ones in my lifetime I've known about to make the first team.
Re: Can you name the last five Burnley players who???
We must have one of the lowest youth team -> first team success rates.
I don't know why. Anybody got any reasonable theories?

I'm surprised Chappy is one of the last five, that seems a long time ago. There must be hundreds of youth players fail to break through.

Hmmmm maybe Bradley Maylett from memory.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:02 pmWho was it before that, Tony?

Stan played a few when he arrived as the “first team” were simply not good enough.
Marty O’Neill
Heywood
Chris Scott
Before that it was Weller, Brass, Mullin and Smith who broke through.
No doubt I’ve missed a few.

Pretty sure I remember Brad Maylett starting at Deepdale a bit out of the blue for us, sometime around 2001. Ian Moore scored a great goal as I recall.
I don't think he started again, may be wrong.

Jamie Vardy was making the numbers up at Sheffield Wednesday once. Still playing non-league football at 25. But if you can't get in a Premier League Burnley side at 20, you'll not make it.Longsidelenny1882 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 12:42 pmJust proves my point about coaching football you carnt you are either a very good un or you are just making the numbers up at youth level utc

Re: Can you name the last five Burnley players who???
A couple of thoughts on what may have contributed:
1) the club climbing from L2 to L1 to Championship and, finally, Premier League; Academy needing time to catch up with climbing the pyramid.
2) ITV Digital - i know a few who's footballing careers were cut short at the end of that season. One or two of the emerging pros may have been good enough for a start the following season....

Re: Can you name the last five Burnley players who???
There was that Shandran kid who was brilliant on Champ Manager in the early 2000's but not sure if he ever made a full league debut for us.
Re: Can you name the last five Burnley players who???
I remember Graham Lancashire who had 3 good months and then disappeared, and Phil Eastwood who scored at Preston (but did he ever start or was he just a sub?), and I think John Borland played a couple in midfield but they might have been as sub as well. I thought he was going to be really good.

Eastwood started at Watford in Waddle’s first game for one, but I’ve posted the link on this thread that shows how many games (starts, subs, league, cups) on this thread, but it’s here again.dsr wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2020 11:43 pmI remember Graham Lancashire who had 3 good months and then disappeared, and Phil Eastwood who scored at Preston (but did he ever start or was he just a sub?), and I think John Borland played a couple in midfield but they might have been as sub as well.
