New Kitchen Appliances....

we are looking into a new kitchen and choosing appliances...

Thinking about a built in Combination Microwave-Grill and a single oven instead of the double Oven/grill and worktop microwave we currently have in our old kitchen ... thought I might see if the UTC'ers had any experience with these and any thoughts ???

Also looking into having an instant hot water combination tap to do away with needing a kettle ... similarly any experience of these ???

Cheers in advance of sensible replies ... and am expecting the usual suspects (ooooh hang on I am asking the question ) to pop in some "humerous" ideas

How often do you you use both ovens on your existing setup ? maybe you could cope with just a built in microwave? and an oven below?

We’ve just had a new kitchen and got all our appliances (integrated) from ao.com.

Looked at the Quooker mentioned above as well but with young kids, I decided against it just to be on the safe side......

We have a single oven/grill/microwave combi and a double oven. The smaller oven gets a lot of use as there is only 2 of us - and uses less energy. We just use the big one a few times per year. So if you can, get something like that rather than just a microwave/grill.

Dont have a hot water one but we have a combi tap that has filtered water as well as the usual hot/cold ones. That gets daily use

The one thing I asked for advice on was pans and bought following recommendations on here.

Mind you, still trying to find a decorator to do the painting.

I made the mistake of buying Neff appliances. Mainly because the door slid under - good feature with toddlers. Oven, microwave, hob, fridge/freezer - all crap. Do not go there.

On holiday I stayed in an apartment with Miele appliances and they were worlds apart. That’s where my money will be going next time even if I have to take a loan

Used NEFF appliance throughout during fairly recent conversion project.
Miele makes dream appliances of middle class households - the brand stands for highest quality, stylish design and extreme reliability, of course it comes with top price. Neff has the exceptional design and high class features, with middle price. ... If you are looking for appliances that last, Miele worth its price. So all depends on what you want to pay.

Highly recommend induction hob as Tony mentioned, but probably will need new pans, hob is what gets used most, then microwave but not a grill combo, it is a large built in microwave.

We put a single oven in with no problem, convection oven is the only way I would go but if big family then double would be way to go, just 3 of us these days so fine for us. Previous place we did have a double oven but have not missed it.

My sister had the instant hot water tap and have stayed with her loads over the years, personally for the two of us it was useless for making tea as not hot enough but definitely handy if you want for something else, I did not want one in either place we renovated and put new kitchens in the last four years. One place we did, he insisted on a wine cooler being put in, it's certainly what he likes the most but I feel it is a little noisy and would not want another

On a serious note,get,(if they will travel to the backwaters of Yorkshire)...get Ramsbottom Kitchens to do the job lot for you,an absolutely fantastic company who do a quality job,did my kitchen when I lived in Loveclough never encountered such a professional service before.

We have been looking at Bosch and AEG for our Oven and the Combi Microwave/Grill ... we have an aging AEG fridge and Freezer that have given good service for the past 25+ years so probably stick with that manufacturer again ....

My thoughts on this thread were to find out what experiences others have with Combi Micro/Grills and Quooker taps....

All seem positive and like has been said buy sh*te buy twice .....

They do ex-display models or ones that have dents etc - but these are usually hidden in a fitted kitchen.

For what it's worth we put a Bosch induction hob in here in Houston, and AEG washer/dryer in the UK renovation, both have been great as makes.

Regarding pans and induction, you also need to be able to cover most of the plate you are using even with the right pans, so small pans don't work on the bigger designated plate, try to get a mix of plate sizes for the induction hob, so you can use the various pan sizes. Our Bosch also has bridges between two plates so you can extend for keeping things warm, seems nothing is easy these days!

Just bought a Russell Hobbs 85 litre freezer on Ebay. (Likely to need this second one the way the Gov is handling Covid.) Should have been £195 but got it for £185 as Ebay are offering a free voucher at the moment.

If you or someone you know has enough knowledge to measure up and do some of the work yourself (i am talking planning and ordering online) then I would without hesitation recommend you look at DIY Kitchens. (Don't just do it yourself, we had a joiner who was doing other work for us and I said help me plan it, you get the install job. He picked up a few things that I wouldn't have - the difference in the gap behind cabinets, old v new where I had sink drainage running wouldn't have fit into the new layout without his knowledge in the planning stage)

They are based in Wakefield and manufacture to order. I did a load of research before ordering from them, including a visit to their showrooms and a look around some samples etc. I think overall i paid about 10k for mine, which included Bosch appliances - double oven, 5 burner gas on glass hob and integrated dishwasher and granite worktops (6 pieces of granite plus cut out for undermount sink and drainer and cut out for hob). The kitchen has been in for 5 years now and looks as good as new. The cabinets are delivered already constructed so are solid and no flat pack assembly required. You are basically buying the kitchen you get in a posh town centre kitchen shop, without paying for the overheads of a shop, salesman and their margin.

They do have a failsafe, you have to push down and twist a bit on the tap before it dispenses boiling water.

They aren't cheap, but they provide instant hot water and are a lot quieter and more energy efficient than boiling a kettle several times a day. Downside is they take up a fair bit of room under your sink for the boiler and tank.

With regards cost v kettle, could argue the same with most things. Why buy a Porsche when you can buy a Fiesta?

Our new kitchen is being done as we speak in the room below me. We went with Wickes who have been very good so far.

Decided against a 'hot tap' as I couldn't justify another £1k or whatever they are just to do away with a kettle.

Phwoar look at that worktop. My dad has a similar one in his kitchen, polished up beautifully.

If you’re at all handy around the home, fitting a kitchen isn’t that difficult. Time constraints are the problem for most people as the kitchen is a very important room.
