A great, skilful player 1st time round but 2nd spell at Turf Moor was disappointing. Let’s remember the early Willie.

One or two have come close but I don't think I've seen a better right winger in a Claret shirt !

Only got vague recollections of Willie the wing wizard unfortunately
Had to wiki him though and straight away the 6-1 thrashing of Man Utd Boxing day 1963 stood out. He got 2, Andy Lochead 4!
Tried to find footage of the game but doesn`t seem to be any online

Happened to me once as a lad.. but with John Deary and Winston White.
Although it does still happen now, John Stones had a kick about with my lad and his mate on the street when he was still living over here.

In the sixties I used to go and watch our reserve team on the a Turf every week when I couldn't go to the first team away game. I remember seeing Willie before he came into the first team and when we sold John Connelly to United I remember telling myfamily and friends that it didn't matter because we had a ready made replacement. No one believed at the time, but they did after 3 or 4 appearances of Willie Morgan in the first team. He was a magician on the right wing and seemed to beat every left back with ease, fabulous player and a nice guy. Happy birthday to one of my favourite all time Clarets.

Happy Birthday Willie. As other have said, the best right winger I think we've seen in a Claret shirt. Also a mean golfer, I can still picture him teeing off at Bacup Golf course all those years ago.

I met him a few years ago when I went to get a copy of his book signed - he came across as very self centred and interestingly that's what Dave Thomas (ex-player) said about him in his recent book.
But as I posted further up the thread, what a wonderful player he was first time round at Burnley - to think in a matter of weeks we had Morgan, Brian O'Neil and Willie Irvine all making their debuts.

Happy Birthday Willie & Mitchell, the former was alas before my era, though I've heard plenty of anecdotal stories about his brilliance, but the latter I do remember, and he played a major role in our promotion under Stan.

He moved to midfield at Man U but at Burnley he was a proper old fashioned winger, used to take his full back on, a good dribbler as they said back then, and good get in a good centre (they didn't say cross then). He replaced John Connelly really at outside right and the two couldn't have been more different in style. For the really old ones, Connelly was more Finney while Morgan was more Matthews in style.

He also went on to have a very distinguished period with Bolton under Ian Greaves when he left us the second time.

Very much so, went to Bolton and was in the team that won promotion back to the old first division. They also had the experienced Peter Thompson (ex-Liverpool) plus players such as Sam Allardyce, Steve Taylor, Peter Reid and Frank Worthington at the time. He then went and played a full season at Blackpool. Around 600 league games when he retired.

A bit past it, then again with Guddy and Brady out he could come in handy.

Wasn't he the first player to have his own registered fan club? (When he was a United I think.) A fantastic player but he used to frustrate by beating his full back and then turning to beat him again!

If my memory serves me correctly I think he married a girl from Bacup. He was also a decent snooker player and was big friends with Jim Meadowcroft, snooker pro from Bacup.

Happened to us aged around 13, 14 on Whittlefield rec. Ralph lived on Herschel Ave and used to come and have a kick about with us. I remember his RS Mexico sat on the drive in 1970.
