Re: Asda
I know they have run businesses before but nothing on the scale or complexity of ASDA. Presumably the new owners will keep much of the senior management in place and utilise their knowledge and experience.
Archie Norman selling the company to Walmart was a disgrace.

Good luck to them.
Clearly got their heads screwed on to achieve what they have so far.

They have something like 6000 outlets so do have vast experience of running large and varied businesses in this country Europe and USA. They also have very good standards in their food retail offerings on the petrol stations, not your typical shoddy experience so I see a great future for the combined businesses.LoveCurryPies wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 7:01 pmI know they have run businesses before but nothing on the scale or complexity of ASDA. Re: Asda
Yeah that's them.
Re: Asda
They own and run the gannow top petrol station ,spar and Starbucks so you can see yourselves if they are up to it. Btw they only own 50% of euro garages and now Asda rest is a private equity firm . Running a top 4 supermarket is a very different proposition so will be interesting to see how they get on
Re: Asda
Presuming the Asda forecourts are included and are an attraction. I would also expect every eurogarage to have a ‘mini Asda’ attached similar to Tesco Express. Seems like fantastic business sense to me

Or maybe in addition they've also fallen on their plates of meat, in life you also need some good fortune along the way, if you asked them early doors a few pivotal turning points would probably be recalled along the way.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 7:18 pmGood luck to them.

Re: Asda
Superb businessmen who have over 6000 garages worldwide. Created hundreds of jobs in Blackburn alone and I'm sure they will do very well with ASDA.
Just hope they don't buy out Venky's or Rovers will be a top six club in no time at all.

Re: Asda
Yes.....I bet they dont shut their food businesses at 1.50 pm. As one sandwich/food shop does in Whalley. Do people stop eating after 2pm?? Was my polite answer to "were shut!!" Good Luck to the Guys .conyoviejo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 8:04 pmSelf made millionaires, Nothing but admiration for them and good luck to them.

Re: Asda
Perhaps, the owners of that shop have analysed their sales data and realised that it costs them more to stay open after 1.50pm than they make and therefore they close. The inconvenience of you not having a sandwich on your random visit maybe didn’t feature in their business plan.
As for the chaps from Eurogarages, fair play to them, they clearly know how to make money!

Re: Asda
If it's advertised as such fair dos, but if they are shutting early without good reason because they can't be arsed before the advertised closing time that's different, nothing more annoying than planning to go somewhere well aware of the opening & closing times & finding different.

My gripe is about work ethic to be Honest....I'll endeavor to change by Lunch Times or suffer the consequences.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Fri Oct 02, 2020 8:34 pmPerhaps, the owners of that shop have analysed their sales data and realised that it costs them more to stay open after 1.50pm than they make and therefore they close. Re: Asda
If they took over Burnley it may end up a Superstore, a Leisure complex and a garage with fuel and recharging points
Also add in a few hundred energy efficient houses if they get the cricket ground too.

Re: Asda
Well there's one thing for sure. They will struggle to make Asda any worse than it already is, especially the one in Burnley.

Re: Asda
Haha been there. CJ’s is mainly a breakfast bar.... they use Farny sausages made around the corner. Best sausages ever made (and a lovely family). Worth setting your alarm to make sure you catch them. I think the sisters who own it are quite happy being ‘comfortably’ well off from their days work lol.
Re: Asda
I recall the Tunnel St (traditional) chippy, it used to close at 5.45pm going back 20 years ago...
It went on to become a Santas - a business which understands the times when modern families eat their evening meal.

Re: Asda
On the contrary, Walmart have been trying to get rid of ASDA for years .... decreasing returns and market share, slim margins. They want to free up the money to invest in more lucrative markets in Asia. The £6.8 deal is financed by £4m of debt, composed of high yield Bonds etc. It's thought that ASDA own the freehold of 75% of it's 631 stores, and that the new owners are keen on a " Sale & Leaseback " arrangement ( Selling the Freeholds for cash and then renting them back ) to provide cash. A lot of retail experts think they've overpaid, and there's already concern at the level of debt that the EU Garages Group carries, although this is a separate venture ..
In the new arrangement, the Issa brothers will own 40%, Investment firm TDR will own 40% and Walmart will retain ownership of 20% ...
