Re: Pickford watch
Christ one bad game and Pope has turned into Deigo Penny....F**king hell!
Re: Pickford watch
Pickford will likely start for England and unless he makes a mistake he will start the next. Get over it.

Re: Pickford watch
Based on today's football the best English goalkeeper is Henderson.
Re: Pickford watch
Pickford is a better fit for England, hasn’t ever played poorly for England and suits the England style of play way more than Pope. It doesn’t mean Popes a worse goalkeeper, just a worse fit in a specific team.

Re: Pickford watch
Southgate wouldn't give a toss if Pope put in the greatest performance ever by a goalkeeper, he's going to keep standing by that turd at Everton regardless of what anyone else does.
Re: Pickford watch
Mind you, it shouldn't have been a penalty. Is a goalkeeper not allowed to spread himself in front of a forward to block a shot? Is it correct that Pope's only legal option was to stand back and allow the free shot?
Those "fouls" are never given. But I suppose this season, under the new "give as many penalties as possible" guidance to refs, they will be given. (If Pope had had the quick wits to scream in agony and clutch his stomach, he might have got a free kick because the forward ran into him.)

Re: Pickford watch
CA is desperate to get a keeper in before the window slams shut isn't he, that says a lot for how much faith he has in Pickford doesn't it.
Everton's transfer deadline day search for a goalkeeper as competition for struggling England star Jordan Pickford has led to an inquiry for Roma's Sweden international Robin Olsen.
Carlo Ancelotti publicly backed Pickford last week but has now stepped up his search for a new keeper after his latest blunder in Saturday's 4-2 win against Brighton.
Everton have also made inquiries for Manchester United's Sergio Romero and Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga as they attempt to get a deal over the line before the transfer window closes.
They have now contacted Roma about 30-year-old Olsen - with any deal likely to be a loan.

Re: Pickford watch
I'm a big Nick Pope fan.
Unfortunately he hasn't done anything to enhance his chances of replacing Pickford over our last two games.
(I wasn't too impressed with Southampton's goal TBH)
Henderson, however, has been faultless in the EPL so far

As it happens I'd play Henderson in the Wales game, but I've no doubt Gareth will opt for Pickford again.
I can only surmise Nick's mistakes are due to him being unsure about the defence in front of him, because he wasn't making these rash decisions last season, when Mee & Tarks were in front of him.

Everton have signed Swedens keeper, Olsen, from Roma. Proper competition for Pickford.

Re: Pickford watch
This interview with Schmeichel made me laugh, wait until you get to the last sentence
Peter Schmeichel claimed that England have not had an outstanding No 1 goalkeeper since David Seaman last played internationally in 2002 amid concerns over Jordan Pickford’s position under Gareth Southgate.
Pickford has been Southgate’s first choice since taking charge of the Three Lions, however, a series of errors with Everton have fostered doubt over the 26-year-old’s long-term role in the team.
Burnley’s Nick Pope and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson are both vying for Pickford’s position, although the latter is unlikely to achieve that while playing back-up to David De Gea.
Schmeichel, though, believes it has been almost two decades since England had a goalkeeper of true stature.
“What you're talking about here is three goalkeepers: one [Pickford] has played for England for three years and made mistakes in the Premier League — those are your words — one [Henderson] is not playing at all, played last season for Sheffield United, you know; and the other [Pope] plays for Burnley, who are rock-bottom of the Premier League,” Schmeichel told The Times.
On Pickford, Schmeichel added: “He probably feels like he’s got to show the world all the time that he is the best, and by trying to show the world, that’s where all the big mistakes come from: you’re trying to come for a cross you’ve got no chance of reaching.”
Asked who he prefers out of the three, Schmeichel instead raised the prospect of Joe Hart’s return to the national set-up, with the goalkeeper now at Tottenham.
“When was the last time England had a No 1?” Schmeichel said. “Joe Hart is still playing. Why is he not the No 1? Hart is only 33 years old. He's probably in his prime. The question, for me, would probably be answered with David Seaman. He's probably the last No 1 you had.”

Re: Pickford watch
Whatever he is or isn’t, to have 28 caps as a goalkeeper at his age, to not have missed a single Everton game since he signed for them, there is no way he can be considered one of the worst.

He's always been a poor keeper. A work colleague says he's still making the same mistakes now, as he did whilst on loan at Bradford.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 17, 2020 1:34 pmPickford was good in his day- but he’s not been good enough for around 3 seasons

Pope not covering himself in glory again today. Poor distribution and poor positioning and lack of agility for the goal.

Anyone watching Pope today will be wondering what all the fuss is about. He just seems so nervous at the moment, and nowhere near the keeper he was last season, albeit missing our best centre back playing in front of him.

With Henderson and Pickford not 1st choice at their clubs and Pope looking dodgy then Alex McCarthy could come up on the rails and take the England #1 jersey

That was a long time ago Rowls. I gave him a 7 for his latest, as above. He was OK.

Re: Pickford watch
We need to ensure we get plenty of crosses in tomorrow that's Pickford's weakness, by and large his shot stopping is ok, as is his distribution, but he's always struggled under the high ball, and this is a weakness we can exploit.
Re: Pickford watch
It's clear that there's going to be some watching.
Re: Pickford watch
Let's hope he flaps and waves tomorrow and gets a bad back, picking the ball out of the net!
