Sabri Lamouchi
Forest manager. Must be close to getting the push after another defeat. Wells with a good finish today for Bristol.

Brizzle are the team I had a hunch would get automatic this season: I didn’t expect them to start so well though!

Re: Sabri Lamouchi
Why on earth would he sacrifice his career to go to a club with 0 points from 4 games, very average players and little time left this window?

Re: Sabri Lamouchi
quite a few reasons, they are a bigger club, have an owner willing to put his hand in his pocket, his style of play is very well suited to bossing the championship, its closer to home and he started his playing career there.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:30 pmWhy on earth would he sacrifice his career to go to a club with 0 points from 4 games, very average players and little time left this window?

And he will join that group headed by Phil Brown and Owen Coyle. Forest can’t afford the compensation.Right_winger wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:34 pmquite a few reasons, they are a bigger club, have an owner willing to put his hand in his pocket, his style of play is very well suited to bossing the championship, its closer to home and he started his playing career there.

I suggest you look at the net worth, whether he’s prepared to is another question, he can certainly afford to if he wanted to.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:37 pmAnd he will join that group headed by Phil Brown and Owen Coyle. Forest can’t afford the compensation.

Bigger club 30-40 years ago yes, but not for the last 2 decades or so.Right_winger wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:34 pmquite a few reasons, they are a bigger club, have an owner willing to put his hand in his pocket, his style of play is very well suited to bossing the championship, its closer to home and he started his playing career there.

Since the PL was created they've spent just 5 seasons in it, that's all.
The rest of that time has been spent in the division below mainly with a foray into League 1.
They don't even regularly get into the Play-offs, they're as likely to be found fighting relegation as they are fighting for promotion.
Their wage bill is 143% of their turnover, gradually growing debts etc.
The owner is that loon from Olympiacos and we all know that he's clearly shady.
I don't know much about the Forest squad, but the fact they're not pulling up any trees in the championship should indicate that it's not going to be a quick fix there.
They're on their 4/5th permanent manager since the current owner took charge in 2017, hardly stable.

Re: Sabri Lamouchi
1999 they went down, a couple of play offs under little Billy and that's been in, a couple of spells in League One. But for the unbelievable purple patch in the late 70s under Clough they'd be a nothing club.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:53 pmBigger club 30-40 years ago yes, but not for the last 2 decades or so.

I don’t want to play the ‘little old Burnley card’ but apart from league positions for the time being Nottingham Forest are a far bigger club than us.
File them alongside the likes of Aston Villa and, dare I say it, Leeds.

That’s like saying but for the purple patch we had under Jimmy Adamson we’d be a nothing club too.
Nottingham Forest are a big club. The very definition of a sleeping giant.

In terms of East Midlands there’s only derby & them really so not that saturated in support, I’m not including Mansfield town or notts county which also draw support, I’d say forest have the potential to be amongst the elite.

Dyche is on 70k a week, plus 2.5m bonus, not many teams can afford him.

More successful in Europe than Leeds, who are a massive club because they got to the semifinals of the European Cup.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:43 pm1999 they went down, a couple of play offs under little Billy and that's been in, a couple of spells in League One. Re: Sabri Lamouchi
You can play whatever card you want, but I'll stand by everything I've said.
They're not far bigger, they had that spell under Clough and that's been it.
They're a mainly 2nd tier level club now regardless of how much money they seem to throw at it.
If you want to cling onto their past in some bizarre attempt to justify something then you've got something wrong with you.
Their 2 European cups is what sets them apart from Burnley, that's it.
They've only got 1 top flight title...
Leeds I've mocked several times, their ego is greater than their trophy cabinet.
Leeds averaged 22k a season until a few years ago and they suddenly found another 11k fans when they started progressing
Keep clinging onto the past achievements of clubs from many decades ago if that makes you feel better.

Re: Sabri Lamouchi
Based on what are they the definition of a sleeping giant?
You could say that about numerous other clubs, but how many sleeping giants are there?
Forest haven't done a great deal if you look past those 2 European cups, they've never really dominated English football, just like Leeds haven't.
If you took their European cups away from them they wouldn't be above Burnley in the Honours table.

Re: Sabri Lamouchi
I'm aware of that. They had a fantastic period under Clough & Taylor, winning the league and two European Cups but they'd achieved very little as a club before that and they've achieved very little since. When I think of big clubs I don't think of clubs who have had just one real period of success, and I don't think of Forest at all. We've had two superb periods of success (post World War 1 and late 50s/early 60s, but we are not a big club by any stretch of the imagination). They are bigger than us and all things being equal they should be ahead of us but if they are a big club then we have a hell of a lot of big clubs in this country.
