Re: The morning after the night before
On the "Kevin Long" thread, someone quite rightly said it's wrong and unfair to single one person out in a performance like that and make them a scapegoat and to some extent they're right and tbh when you look at the player ratings for example people have been sensible enough to share the blame around. The point I'm making though and what makes me most annoyed about last night is Ben Gibson. We had Mee's (or Tarky's) ready made, experienced, PL standard, top quality CB right in the palm of our hands and we stupidly allowed him to slip away. I know there is probably fault on both sides in that story, but surely it would have made a hell of a difference having him in the team these last 3 games and us having to make do and mend at CB is just criminal. If you can't keep clean sheets you're going to lose a lot of games and as we're not prolific scorers, that applies to us more than most.
Re: The morning after the night before
Didn't watch. Didn't have a good feeling and so it proved. Wasn't expecting any more than a draw seeing as returning players weren't going to be up to match fitness. I'm not panicking yet though.
Re: The morning after the night before
Very rare a bad result and performance stays with me. But last nights has. It really really ****** me off, and I've woken up feeling the same way.
Re: The morning after the night before
Dyche clearly not happy in the full post match press conference.
We didnt act in the market last season, or this, we are having to play injured players.
He also adds he doesnt expect anything, think he has the same feeling as us when it comes to faith in the chairman.

Re: The morning after the night before
All the poor transfer dealings are finally catching up with us this season and Dyche knows it but putting the blame on the board - they have backed him with money these last few seasons (not enough though ) on past it players and paying them a fortune and the market Dyche insists on shopping in
Re: The morning after the night before
I think you'll find Dyche has been forced to shop in certain markets for what should be obvious reasons, rather than him insisting on it.BOYSIE31 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 9:34 amAll the poor transfer dealings are finally catching up with us this season and Dyche knows it but putting the blame on the board - they have backed him with money these last few seasons (not enough though ) on past it players and paying them a fortune and the market Dyche insists on shopping in
Re: The morning after the night before
My morning after thoughts start with their goal when a blatant foul on Long was not given and for the rest of the first half we were like rabbits in headlights. Second half showed a big improvement and at the time of the equaliser I honestly thought we were the most likely team to win the game. Sadly we couldn’t cope with the pace and power of Saint Maximin and in those conditions our inability to deal with him cost us the second goal. Re the penalty - Pope was having a poor game but I think the penalty was harsh as the contact came after Fraser had played the ball. Yes we have problems and the injuries haven’t helped but I hope the international break can give us a chance to regroup and get back to doing things the Burnley way.

Well known we didn't have the scouting infrastructure in the past.

Not a foul you have to be stronger than that as he hardly touched him but agree with the rest

There's an old saying. "It's always darkest before the dawn."
Let's hope so.
C'mon you PL Clarets.

It’s a bad start: lots of injuries, uncertainty at the top, the spark missing. The one thing you know about us is that we have been in worse positions and dug ourselves out. We did finish 10th a few weeks ago, so we can do this.

You're right, but I find it very difficult to be positive.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 11:27 amIt’s a bad start: lots of injuries, uncertainty at the top, the spark missing. We need a signing that makes us go, "Right - let's do this" - JBG fully fit can do that, but it's so annoying that he'll never play enough games for us. He's turning into a Defour in that he's quality, but just will never play for us enough.
Re: The morning after the night before
This is worse; under normal circumstances, the morning after would be a banging headache from at least having a good night out.
We’ve skipped the good night out bit and gone straight for the banging hangover!!

Sean has broken many records since he came to us but sadly this is the worst start to a season in the top flight since the 1927-28 when we lost the first five games. 100 years ago we lost the first three but didn't do too badly afterwards.

Re: The morning after the night before
Very very un-Burnley like. Nobody moving to give options when in possession, no covering or tracking back, ball watching....
Normally I’d say SD needs to give a few rockets out; sadly this time I’m not sure if he is part of the issue.
A closed door team meeting with no gloves needed urgently.
And if there is any chance of a couple of hungry players coming in it might help boost the mood of the whole club... if Garlick loves the club as he has frequently stated I would expect the lights to be on through the night until the window closes, even if it’s only to recheck club accounts.

I don’t think MG has any intention of spending any money in this window he just wants out.

Re: The morning after the night before
That doesn't really follow though with us going in for Wilson. And it seems we were still in for him when the JT deal broke down, suggesting it wasn't a case of sell before we buy.snapcrackleandpop wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:08 pmI don’t think MG has any intention of spending any money in this window he just wants out.
It's frustrating, but I sense we're perhaps being a bit harsh on Garlick. £5 million profit per season suggests we're not exactly loaded.

Re: The morning after the night before
The team at the end of last season would have cut out all 3 goals and at least ground out a 0-0
Its me being positive but I hope today MG was able to meet and ensure SD has not lost his drive and that he has told the recruitment guys to simply get a couple over the line

Re: The morning after the night before
was it around 1920 when we lost 3 in a row then went on a long unbeaten streak? Not saying we will hear but just wondering what all those 10's of thousands that were packed in the Turf were saying to each other the day after and when they started the work week. It certainly wasn't good but there was a spell in the second half, particularly after we scored where my optimism was soaring and thoughts were around things like, we can go on and win this, always better second half. Ahhhh well, we have some time now to try and get players back for the first team, particularly Ben, most definitely Ben.

Re: The morning after the night before
Normally I am a positive thinker and usually bounce back quickly from a defeat BUT there were so many things that didn't feel right last night in terms of attitude and cohesiveness.
Pope's performance was strange.
Tarkovski - looked great in the warm up marshalling and coaxing but during the game looked like he couldn't give one - his lack of movement to give Long an outball was weird and his shrug of the shoulders following it was even stranger.
Taylor never overlapped and delivered a ball from deeper than the halfway line to their box.
Likewise Dwight was in reverse more than on the offensive
Dale Stephen - looked like he didn't know what was expected of him.
Barnes and Wood looked out of sync as did Josh and Westy.
Sean sent them out early as a mark of his displeasure for the second half and then was strangely quiet ( at least on comms compared to the first half)
JBG - didn't whip the ball in.
This was Newcastle not Liverpool or City. Well organised but apart from Maximan (who was absolutely superb and how I wish we had a player like that) had very little else but even when he went off we didn't go at it?
Something wasn't/isn't right - that was so un Burnley like. It reminded me of the performances after the brief Europa expedition but at least there was an excuse there. There was no heart, no plan and no cohesion.
A couple of signings or loans wont change that mentality.
Not sure where we go but that squad was good enough to put in a competitive show last night but some heavy conversations need to take place before we get our mojo back.
