Michael Mellon is the Guardian's one to watch

Post by ClaretTony » Wed Oct 07, 2020 4:40 pm

Each year the Guardian select a 16-year-old from each Premier League club as the one to watch. They started in 2014 and this year they've selected Michael Mellon. Below are their previous selections.

2014 - Khius Metz
2016 - Tristan Jumeau
2017 - Michael Fowler
2018 - Harry Allen
2019 - Joe McGlynn

Didn’t Fowler get a serious injury? He had a hot scoring spell when he arrived.

Not yet

Khius Metz is playing for Radcliffe now. He had an horrendous time with injuries when he was here.
Tristan Jumeau was released and went off to America.
Michael Fowler was, surprisingly I thought, released despite scoring loads of goals with us, he's now with Fleetwood but currently on loan at FCUM.
Harry Allen and Joe McGlynn are still with us.

I'm hopeful that Joe will make good. Always been impressed with him.

Surprised Lewis Richardson wasn't ever a pick as he always seems to be the most likely of several pretty likely candidates to make a real impact.

To be honest, I'm convinced they draw them out of a hat.

yes but given the apparent curse of being on the list we should be rather pleased about it too

I can't be the only one who thought this was some reference to Micky Mellon.

Interesting fact Mellon opened the very first franchised energie Shokk gym aimed at teenagers with his wife in Blackpool in February 2009. The gym later went out of business in October 2009.

Michael has been playing for us for some time now, first really appeared in the CEE tournament in 2019, and he uses Michael rather than Micky.

It's also a fact that when the young lads (U18's) play he often gets really positive references and just maybe one who has a bit extra.
