Grealish
Fouled a lot last night.
And for Villa generally.
Does anyone have the stats for when they beat Liverpool last week though?

Re: Grealish
Has looked one of the best players on the park in every game I’ve watched him, has made some mistakes off the pitch which has I guess masked his good traits and all he does locally. (Deservedly at times) but he’s a young kid, plays for his home town club, works hard every game, unbelievable talent.
But... he’s English, young and rich (see Sterling) so you generally see a lot of people hoping he fails.

Best player I’ve seen this season. An exceptional talent. I bet United are sick for putting all their eggs in the wrong basket.

Re: Grealish
He was very good for England but still not convinced.
I've seen him go missing far too often when it mattered.
Another factor in how well he plays is if the referee buys into his novel take on what constitutes a foul. If a refereee understands the laws of the game and doesn't reward Grealish when he flops to the floor, he's liable to get clattered and sulk.

Re: Grealish
He's a Fanny.
Re: Grealish
He is all of the things above!
I regard him as a great talent...who knows it.
With proper management, coaching, he should be able to trust his colleagues and release earlier. Then he will be ace.

Did he get "fouled" whilst they were tearing apart Liverpool?

Re: Grealish
Isn't that Adams?
Re: Grealish
He is certainly that but.... a very talented Fanny ....
A "Fanny" who when he stays upright and carries on like he did last night in an England shirt, perhaps, and I repeat perhaps, he may just get a tad more support from "non" Villa fans when he pulls on the 3 Lions
Like Eddie says above he has a rep for diving....

Re: Grealish
You take it right.
Last nite was the best I’ve seen him play. I was I’m pressed not just with his skill, but his work ethic. One minute whipping a cross in from the right, next minute pulling saka (sp) out the **** in the left back area.

Re: Grealish
Good player when he stays on his feet, he should do it more often.
He played well that game on New Years Day but I wouldn’t say he pulled us apart.
It was one of our worst performances of the season and we still should have got a point.

I agree that we were far from at our best, but he was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 7:57 pmGood player when he stays on his feet, he should do it more often.

Even the Villa players
Edit to say, we could have had a point, but certainly didn't deserve one. Would have been out of sight but for a dodgy VAR decision

Re: Grealish
I've seen him a few times and he's capable of performances like that, but can go missing as others have previously said.
He was excellent against us in the home game last season mind

Re: Grealish
He certainly played well. And he does get fouled a lot, which is not surprising as few English players dribble better than he does.
I doubt he'll make the starting 11 vs Belgium, though

Re: Grealish
Front 3 will be Kane, Sterling and one other.. Ings? .could be Grealish I suppose as he could drop in to midfield which would be handy against a very good Belgian side.

Re: Grealish
I thought Sterling was injured, personally I'd be tempted to go with DCL & Ings against Belgium, Kane barely troubled them in the 2 WC meetings, and the other 2 are flying, we'll likely lose anyway, so we not give them a go, we know what Kane can do at this level, but if he was injured before next summer suddenly you'd face the prospect of an inexperienced forward line, and for some reason England play better without Kane in the line-up, it's a big call, and I don't think Gareth will make it, but that's what I'd do.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 8:41 pmFront 3 will be Kane, Sterling and one other.. Re: Grealish
i didn't know Sterling was injured. Ings deserves a shot at it, as does DCL. I've yet to see what Sancho brings to the side, but i'm not an FA coach.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 10:02 pmI thought Sterling was injured, personally I'd be tempted to go with DCL & Ings against Belgium, Kane barely troubled them in the 2 WC meetings, and the other 2 are flying, we'll likely lose anyway, so we not give them a go, we know what Kane can do at this level, but if he was injured before next summer suddenly you'd face the prospect of an inexperienced forward line, and for some reason England play better without Kane in the line-up, it's a big call, and I don't think Gareth will make it, but that's what I'd do.
I liked the team vs Wales, left wing-back could be an issue. But GS will probably go for the more experienced players.
Re: Grealish
He’s an outstanding player.
Said it on the the last thread we had about him. Football fans in general have some kind of weird hatred for players like him. Mostly jealousy. Good looking lad, plenty of money, outstanding talent, captain of his own club. He’s living the ultimate footballers dream. I highly doubt he’s ever gonna leave Villa. He’ll go down as their greatest ever. No doubt.

Re: Grealish
Doesn't bother me, I just remember when he first appeared he had socks half way down his lower legs and shin pads somewhere underneath that said to some people ' poser'. I just think some of the negativity stems from there.

Re: Grealish
He’s top drawer is Grealish.
Re: Grealish
He must be a very brave man. It's something like 100 times a season he is so badly hurt that he is literally screaming in pain. Lying on the floor, thumping the ground, and screaming and crying. To make a grown man cry like a baby it has to be a lot of pain - you see rugby players have sixty stone of opponents jump on them and get up and play on. How seriously injured must Grealish be to react like he does. I mean, most of the time not only has someone touched him, but he's actually fallen over and landed on the grass.
And yet he gets up and plays on. What a hero.
The Daily Telegraph had something pathetic last week about Bardsley and Saint Maximin, about how Bardsley had clattered him so hard that the screams of pain could be heard round the ground. They didn't mention that two minutes later he was screaming in pain again as he almost made contact with Long's leg. When will referees and journalists finally realsie that when a player screams, he is pretending?

Re: Grealish
Plays like he is playing with his mates in the school yard. If more players played like him instead of like chess pieces then football would be more entertaining.

Sourness said he gets fouled a lot because he hangs onto the ball to long.

Re: Grealish
Rumours are that he will start against Belgium, this will be a much sterner test of his international credentials, because I suspect England won't see anywhere near as much of the ball as they did in the Wales game. and the midfield will have to graft their socks off to curtail all the attacking talent the Belgians possess.

Re: Grealish
I think one of the reasons why we expect Belgium to have more of the ball is because they are better technically. Which is why I think we need players like Grealish in the side. Somebody who keeps the ball very well (unless he's chopped down) and can take players on.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 9:33 amRumours are that he will start against Belgium, this will be a much sterner test of his international credentials, because I suspect England won't see anywhere near as much of the ball as they did in the Wales game. and the midfield will have to graft their socks off to curtail all the attacking talent the Belgians possess.
As always, it will be down to whether our defence is up to it. Playing Trippier on the left, and Dier at centre-back, doesn't fill me with confidence.
