Anybody else watching the Apple event?

I like and use the iPhone but their days of innovation seem to be well behind them. When did they let come up with something unique?

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Im still on the iPhone 7 as it's still serving me well.
Im not sure what innovation you can get from a phone now, and being responsible for smartphone as we know it today the narrative Apple seem to be focused on is security and privacy and innovating in that way.
From what I have seen of the iPhone 12 tonight - big focus on 5g which isn't innovative at all as its a technology that has been around in other phones for a while. The fact is that 5g is very limited currently anyway so not something that even early adopters are able to really experience unless they are in an area where this has been deployed.

Currys eBay has it at £599 but has a code “PRODUCT5” that takes it down to £569.05p
Re: Iphone 12 + ???
I’ve had the 11 for a few months, got a pretty decent deal from EE after I opted to leave them when my last contract ended. There’s really nothing significant imho from what I was using (iPhone 6). I know technically there is, but not really for my use. I basically pay £4 more than what I did but unlimited data as opposed to the 4GB I had.

Their processors were already 30% faster than anything else on the market, and the new one has 40% more transistors. They wipe the floor with all Fandroid phones.claret2018 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 6:23 pmI like and use the iPhone but their days of innovation seem to be well behind them. Does the average user care about that? As far as I can tell there’s no difference between my XR, 7 and 6. The camera might be better, but I’m not a photographer so I don’t know.

Did you see the figures on how many chargers and sets are out ther from.previous models that can be used.
Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Is it worthwhile paying upfront?
£599 is £25 a month over 24 months, plus a like for like package to what I'm on now with unlimited everything plus Spotify is about £37 a month on Vodafone.
I only pay £48 a month for this on a 24 month contract so I'm saving a fortune over the length of the deal.

If you buy a phone upfront you shouldn’t be paying much for a monthly fee with the packages out there.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
I’ve been waiting for the IPhone 12 for about 6 months as the previous versions didn’t offer enough of a leap from my 7 plus. My 7 plus battery is <80% after 4 years, and the speaker isn’t anywhere near as good as the newer models, so figured I’d wait.
The 12 doesn’t give the battery performance specs, so I’m going to hold on for a few weeks until I’ve seen the reviews, but I was surprised, as were many in the industry it seems, that Apple have essentially put the same spec in the iPhone Mini as the larger model. The battery will be smaller of course, but besides that it looks a cracking option. I’m sick of the size of my 7 plus. Too big for a pocket really, although I liked that at first. The screen on the mini is only 0.1” smaller than the 7 plus, so it ticks my boxes. If the battery performance seems okay I’ll go with the “mini”, but if not I’ll probably got for the 12 pro.
I was thinking about buying it up front, but if the deal is right then might contract as it can often work out cheaper than a month to month deal.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Still hanging onto my iPhone 7 and looking at the iPhone 11. Prices now under £600 and now considering the IPhone 11 Pro.
Any ideas on whether there’ll be any Black Friday offers on the 11Pro and roughly how much I might be looking at?

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Only used iPhones for the last 10 years but my work phone I’ve had for 2 years is a Samsung and I literally avoid using it at all costs, I just can’t take to it and the speakers dreadful. Never been that fussed about technology, I just take whatever I’m offered when I call to renew (salesman’s dream)
Re: Iphone 12 + ???
I’m not a massive technophobe and I’ve never had a new phone, so I thought I’d upgrade to the 12.
Long story short I’ve sent it back to Vodafone because of a pricing confusion on my part, and I wasn’t willing to pay £52 as opposed to the £42 I thought it was.
But, now I’m back to my I-phone 8, I do miss the 12. The Face ID, screen and slickness of it and features were decent and the 8 feels archaic.
That said there’s a limit to what I’m willing to pay because it is only a phone at the end of the day, and I do try and limit my time on it.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
I use an android for work - it’s infuriating. Too much lag when doing anything and the unlock options fail to work regularly, meaning I need to input the pin code. Compared to my 11 Pro, it’s night and day.
I generally get a new phone every two years - I’ve now started buying from Apple and running a cheap unlimited contract from EE.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Not sure on deals. But I’ve got the 11pro, bought it outright last year. It’s a cracking phone and I won’t need to replace it until at least the next phone after the 12.
Even the battery life seems way better than any other phone I’ve had.
I’ve always alternated between android and iPhone but I think il stick with iPhone now. Just ‘feels’ far better.
Oh and had an issue yesterday. I rung apple. Got through to them in a minute and the lady I spoke to ran through the million and one questions I had about unrelated apple / iPhone topics. That’s what sets apple apart imo.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
You mention the battery life. I've got an Iphone XS (10) and the battery life is significantly better than the 7S I had before that. The battery life in the 11 is apparently significantly better than the XS too. That's one thing they have vastly improved.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:51 pmNot sure on deals. I do like my XS but will probably get a new one in around six months or so - that will probably move me on to 12.
Despite all the criticisms from some, I do like iphones.

I'd worry on both counts that you should ever need the support, over the course of 20 years plus I've never ever felt the need to contact a phone manufacturer asking any questions, HTC, SONY, NOKIA ect ect, hardware or software problems it's sorted with my knowledge & researching online, someone will always have the same problem, the day I need to be ringing apple or samsung ect up is the day to pack up ever owning a mobile phone.Wellsy1882 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:32 amSame support with Samsung

Things can and do go wrong. Things can and do become difficult to understand. I work in mobile. But still needed a hand with mine the other day. Contacts had stopped displaying and id done every diagnostic I could myself. Turned out it was an issue with the software update. Nothing a user can do about that. Thankfully got through to someone at Apple in less than a minute who was helpful not only on that issue but giving a steer on getting the most from other applications and services.
Good on apple for having people on hand to actually speak to.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
I upgraded from an IPhone X to an IPhone 12 pro and the battery life does seem to be significantly longer as mentioned. It has to be said my old phone was over 2 years old so you would probably expect it to be better but from what I remember it has improved on what it was like when new as well. I think the phone itself is amazing similar to the X the 5g is great though I find I don’t have to use my WIFI much. I only use it when posting on here as my IPAddress is blocked fixed it once just going to ignore it and use WIFI for posting from now on.

Re: Iphone 12 + ???
Me personally I've never had a problem not to the extent of needing to ring them up I just wouldn't do it Ive always find a way around it, first time for everything I guess but all the updates I've always encountered whether OTA or hooked up to the computer have been clean & glitch free, the glitches can ironed out with workarounds or resolved with patches or completely eliminated next update when you may encounter fresh glitches.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 12:46 pmThings can and do go wrong. I nearly rung sony once with a black screen did diagnostics ended up heating it up prising it open & fitting a proximity sensor & it was fine afterwards, that was with a old Z5 premium a common fault after headphone jack port replacement, that's the only time I've ever been close to ringing them up but I sourced the part non direct from eBay.
